These are high-res (512x512) skins that are double the resolution of the stock AviationLights. These are skins only; if you don't have the AviationLights mod yet, what area you waiting for? Get it now!

(New skins also include super handy, ultra-futuristic system for quickly finding the light you want from your undoubtedly massive collection of parts!)

That's right, I've just added another set to the collection! Thanks to Bill, these all have the same white glass lens on the front. The only way to tell them apart is by the color coding sticker on the back, and of course when you actually turn them on. :)

*************** UPDATE v1.3 ***************

  • Now takes advantage of Firespitter and ModuleManager to provide texture switching capability in the VAB/SPH!
  • Firespitter and ModuleManager required
  • Players not using FS or MM please continue to use v1.2; there is no difference in actual skin content between the versions

DOWNLOADS

INSTALLATION

  1. Merge the GameData folder in the archive with your existing installation. This will add a "DeadSkins" directory to your AviationLights folder. v1.3 users stop here, that's all you need to do!
  2. Inside, you will find folders for each skin variant. Select all of the images in the variant you want to use, and overwrite the stock images in the directory %KSP_ROOT%/GameData/AviationLights/Parts/lights/ (don't worry, the original skins were included with the DeadSkins download too!)
  3. Load/re-load Kerbal Space Program
  4. v1.2: AviationLights will load with your chosen texture. v1.3: AviationLights textures can be cycled by right-clicking on part in VAB/SPH

Amazing job Deadweasel, linked to the main thread, of course.

I will use the pyramid version in my KSP save from now on. It's so kerbal-ish, I immediatly ejected surprisingly green vomit!! :D

Ha! Thanks a bunch! Also, I have updated the pack to include an all white glass lens variant (for those folks who loves them some realism)!

Maybe i'm stupid but i can't cycle trough the different lighttypes/textures in the VAB by rightclicking.

Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong, i merged the two folders and loaded KSP twice.

I use KSP 0.24.2 and aviationlights 3.6

Do you also happen to have Firespitter and ModuleManager installed?

Not dumb, just hurried I'm sure. I've done that plenty of times with other mods! :D

Glad they're working for you and that you're apparently getting as big a kick out of them as I do!

What about you TheMariner? Same issue by chance?

Hehe... Probably. I'll check after work.

Edit: Looks like that was the issue, though when I had them both installed, I kept getting crashes. I uninstalled Firespitter and just kept the Module Manager in and it seems to work quite nicely. Thanks for pointing out the obvious!

Wait, are you still getting the switcher controls in the VAB/SPH too? Because if so, that's a Firespitter thing, which means the most likely reason for your crashes was that you have another version of FS running in your mods layout somewhere. ModuleManager doesn't do anything to the interface, and can't handle switching textures on the fly. It's whole purpose is to modify parts and plugins without actually modifying their source files.

Yea, I was wondering about that myself just now. The thing is though, I don't think any of my mods actually use Firespitter. I did happen to find a FireSpitter.dll in the plugins folder. Not really sure what it's from, but that explains it.

Very nice stuff! I highly welcome the FS config!

But I noticed the FS-switching is broken for "lightstrobe_white" and "lightbeacon_red" - all others are fine.

(The cfg lists model000_* what should be model000-* and model000strobe_* instead of model000strobe-*)

For the lazy: grab the updated DeadSkins-config.cfg and replace into GameData/AviationLights/Parts/lights/DeadSkins/

^ Thanks for listing the correct install path. The instructions on where to place the directory in the OP are confusing. That's about the only folder I hadn't tried yet.

And thanks for the cfg update, too. :)

Just in case anyone is still interested in these, I've released an updated version for KSP v1.0 thru 1.0.5:

DeadSkins for Aviation Lights Continued

Thanx for all the original time & effort on these, Deadweasel!! ... I've appreciated using these for a long time, and it seemed such a shame for them to just disappear...
