Staging during docking mode - how to stop it?

Recommended Posts

I am having problems whilst in Docking mode.

When I switch between rotation mode and linear mode I have to press the space bar.

But often what happens is the stages get initiated instead.

Of course I can make a quick save before starting docking procedures but sometimes I forget to do that.

Also I am not going to change any key bindings.

Most of the time the docking mode works fine. Then all of sudden it just seems to forget that it is in docking mode and decides to start staging all my rockets in the middle of docking operation.. which has disastrous consequences.

Does anyone else have this problem?

That's definitely not supposed to happen. Looks like it's an issue for the Tech Support folks, so I'll move it to the appropriate subforum.

First question: Is it happening on a stock install, or have you installed any mods?

EDIT: Another thing comes to mind: Do you have the "Use staging controls on docking" setting active in the Settings?

Also, you may want to read the Stock Bug Support Reporting Guide and the Known Issues and Self-Help threads in order to get your issue diagnosed and fixed as quickly and painlessly as possible :)

Thanks I'll look into that... I had no idea there was a setting for that. I will double check and respond.

As a quick-fix, try applying a stage lock to anything you're about to dock.

Wow.. I had no idea there was a control for that either. O well I'm sure there will be someone else who reads this and goes .. Hey.. I didn't know that" too. Feel free to say so if thats the case...

Thanks Kryxal.. Now I'm in search of the elusive stage lock...

Well that's me then I guess! I am also searching for that setting! Thank you Mars Mullo!

Edit:Too sad, I found the mentioned setting but unfortunately it wasn't active. Is there a shortcut to activate and deactivate it in flight?

This is (slightly) off topic, but did you try to dock in staging (i.e. "normal") mode BUT while using Chase view (by pressing V)?

I find it way easier to manage than docking mode since it lets you access linear (RCS) with IJKL-HN at the same time as rotation (QE) without having to use your space bar... when you are already lined up, that's usually all you need :)

Thank you for the tip! Its something you have to get used to but it works quite well! :)

@vexx32 I have tons of mods. My Gamedata consists of 87 folders so I am pretty sure it maybe due to a mod! Gladly it is the only problem so far which has an easy workaround!

Cool ALT-L ... that answers my question so well.. thanks.

At the time of having problems I was in docking mode using both rotation and linear aspect.

But much like the dreaded accidental button push on the shift key or the space bar I was having disasters via Pilot error.

I suppose in real craft they have those little red flip covers over the toggle switches. We can't quite do that on our computer keyboards.

But that stage lock is just what I needed.

Thanks all .. happy rocket building.
