totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Well since you brought it up, I built two Mini Mitchell craft back in February 2017 and haven't worked on it since then. The first of the two craft was an idea that was inspired by the Mini SR71 in the B-24. The Second was built to reenact the Famous Mission done with the USS Hornet. -

Today after I got a near full of fuel bird, I did a test run to Duna and decided to catch Ike's Orbit. I was lacking a few things......important things like control, the Shuttle crafts, a few struts that were either forgotten or broke during the journey, and did I mention control??? I have to say I struggled to get here but at least I know I can make a trip this far out for now. Next trip will be with better Control and the Shuttles. Here was my makeshift control Balance was terrible, I had wings that weren't all filled and not sure what else may have thrown the balance off. KERBOL EXPLORER 172 In Ike Orbit

When things go wrong I've added Convert -O- Trons to the shuttles, Docked to Kerbol Explorer 172 and noticed I have zero Monopropellant?? So maybe convert some Ore? Nope....zero Ore!

Wow, that's some beautiful work man! -
I would like to first mention that docking huge craft together is so extreme!! the craft must first be in near perfect balance for maneuvers in space otherwise it will be very difficult to dock, and I have to say this one is not in perfect balance but close enough for now. When the craft meet together they must touch so slightly its almost unexplainable how slightly. Edgar Allan Poe couldn't explain how ever so slightly they need to touch! Often I've thought these couplers were are not working. The reason why the slightest touching is needed during docking these craft are due to the amount of weight that is being hit together. When you start to consider this amount of weight hitting together is helps to understand the Need for No Speed! I will be sharing these type projects here instead of on the Craft Exchange Thread because projects like this take so long I often don't release the craft for months or even years. But if you would like to try these craft, just send me a Private Message and excuse any flaws. These are in Version 1.7.2 atm. I am arriving with much better amounts of fuel during these refuel trips now. The reason for the awkward docking is for the viewing from the Center Cupola Module. When placing a Docking Port on these it blocks the viewing.

I've added more fuel to my SpaceTech craft to increase the amount of my refueling of Kerbol Explorer 172 located in LMO. I think the craft looks much better with the extra Tanks. Previous refueling was taking very long with just small amounts per trip. Here I have made my first landing on Minmus and it was done VTOL, this seems to be the most safe way to land on Minmus.

We use to call these perfect timings a Kodak moment.....

Sorry to hear about your pup mate, I'm sure he was a great friend.... -
After about 5 Trips refueling Kerbol Explorer 172, I am starting to see how little headway I am making with so much time. I am considering a larger craft to haul more fuel per trip! Also I'm not sure what distance I will get with the craft when its fueled. My first choice of destination would be Duna.

I am still shuttling Fuel to Kerbol Explorer 172 in LMO. Also did some testing with the on-board shuttles. Their working great but I will need to add a Convert-O-Tron and this may have a domino effect and will cause the bay areas to be enlarged. I may also tweak the crafts looks a bit at this time. Here I've been leaving fuel only in the tail and it's been just enough to get back to Minmus. I cut it really short on this trip and my last burst of thrust used the last of the fuel. Never have I seen a landing cut so close to a failed attempt. SpaceTech with added cargo bay for Ore Processing

I've been refueling in LKO and thought, maybe I should get into a Minmus Orbit and send a refuel craft with drilling capabilities to do refueling there? I could shuttle lots more fuel with less fuel usage due to the much less gravity forces . Heading for Minmus!

Playing around in LKO and loving the view!

Today I am using my SpaceTech craft to refuel my latest Spacecraft Kerbol Explorer 172 Releasing Boosters

Kerbol Explorer 172 He's something I've been wanting to do for a very long time now. At first I was having difficulties getting into space. The craft was loaded with fuel and I then I reduced the fuel, adjusted the COM and the craft was still either breaking apart or flipping and not making Orbit. Then I thought about removing all the fuel except the Lower Tanks near the Engines and adding a Launcher. This became a great solution to the problem! I can always make a few rendezvous in LKO to add fuel. Kerbol Explorer 172 has two small Bays for Docking Craft, this is the highlight of this build. I enjoy docking Spacecraft in Space and the idea of docking inside another craft gives such a sense of accomplishment in a cool kinda way. Kerbin Mini Military Update: 6.28.19 I am planning to post Three more craft here then release them on Kerbalx once again. Video to follow after all craft are released. Mini Aircraft Carrier More Pictures -
Kerbin Mini Military First Release Kerbin Mini Military Bomber Mini B-52 ......Sorta This is the first of a few Mini Military Craft I plan to have in a Video at a later date. I have a some Craft built, to name a few, BattleShip, P38, Mitchell & an Aircraft Carrier. (Bombs Destroy Nothing with this Bomber ) At takeoff use half throttle, at about 40ms small quick taps on the S Key will get you in the air without destroying the Tail. You might be able to press and hold to lift depending on speed. Landing at or near 45ms made an excellent landing with a soft touch down. Action Group 4 for the Bomb Bay Doors Action Group 5 to drop the Load Mini B-52 Bomber aka..KMM-Bomber Kerbin Mini Military Mini A-10 Warthog 1/3 Throttle will get you off the end of the Runway without destroying your Tail. AG 6 will release all the A-10’s Payload. AG 7,8,9 & 0 will drop doubles at a time. (Bombs not shown here) Mini A-10 WARTHOG Kerbin Mini Military Mini F-14 Tomcat Full Throttle with SAS until you reach about 120ms and she will peel right off the Tarmac when pressing S. Touchdown softly at or near 40ms will give you a nice landing but also very challenging. Doing a 180 will cause lots of stall but if you have enough air underneath you gaining control again is possible and very fun. Mini F-14 Tomcat

Yes very fun! Whatever you do.....don't build a VTOL these are very addictive....lol I wasn't planning to reveal this craft just yet but It's funny that we both used the Elevon's for the Tails! When it comes to tiny building parts are limited, had to show it to you. Right now I've been trying to reduce the control of those Elevons and reaction wheels because the craft can flip easily. This is actually still very fun to fly like it is but doesn't look so RL. Mini F-14 Tomcat -

First I make the entire Craft a Sub Assembly (The A-10) and I change the root part to whatever part works to stick it to another Craft, in this case the Lead Craft. Then I spread the Craft apart with the Move Tool. (Hope this makes sense?) -
