Oky, so the challenge is to build the longest noodle (aka Knoodle). It's not that simple... Longest knoodle wins, however their are bonuses. Knoodles built in space in orbit around kerban do not get a location bonus. Knoodles built on the surface at kerban get a 15% bonus. Knoodles built on water get a 15% bonus. Knoodles built on MUN get a 50% bonus. Knoodles built on Minmus get a 40% bonus. Other Planets and bodies will get different bonuses depending on difficulty. One million percent bonus to anyone that manages to build a knoodle on the surface of Jool or the sun. Above list will get updated upon request for bonuses for specific locations. 10% 'cool' bonus for anyone using deadly re-entry. 10% bonus for all knoodles containing more than 16 kerbals. 5% 'drama' bonus for each dramatic 'effect'. 5% bonus for each unique solution to the game rules. Unique solutions are tagged to the original player that featured the solution first but can be used by the same player multiple times across multiple attempts. 5% bonus for placing six or more parts in one flight. 100% bonus for creating a knoodle that does not begin nor end. 100% bonus for creating a knoodle that circulates a planet or body in space. Rules: No mods except deadly re-entery. No Kerbal Attachment system or docking assistance and no custom parts. I may grant a bonus for using life support mod but please ask first and we will see how many people want this. Knoodles must comprise of at least three pieces that are joined at the location. (knoodles can not be moved once assembly commences) No Cheats such as unlimited fuel or unlimited rcs. (instant disqualification) No debris left at the construction site or in orbit. (instant disqualification) (launch clamps are exempt but must NOT be used to hold surface based knoodles) All knoodles must contain at-least one kerbal right from the beginning of construction (the first piece). All delivery vessels must contain at-least one kerbal. Temporary construction structures are exempt from kerbal rule but still must not use remote guidance units. No use of remote guidance units. Temporary debris is permitted but it must be 'disposed of' before knoodle construction is completed. All delivery vessels must be RECOVERED (this means landing back on kerbal). All Knoodles built in space must be de-orbited when construction is completed. See dramatic effects. All knoodles on the surface of a planet / body must be destroyed 'somehow'. See dramatic effects. All knoodles on the surface of a planet / body must be built vertically. This includes on / in water. This rule has very specific exemptions. No kerbal death must occur. (instant disqualification) No deleting things from the space centre or tracking station. No editing saved game files No editing craft files. No use of hyper edit etc. No rescue only missions. (a rescue is permitted provided both flights still take knoodle pieces to the knoodle, join then successfully and return to kerbal.) No use of the 'revert to' function. Any temporary constructs that gets auto deleted by the game result in disqualification. A knoodle consists of a single joined long length that can be bent but must not contain angles. A knoodle piece can not be designed with a corner in it to make a square or triangle. Player must devise a way of measuring knoodle length accurately and measured in meters. Any lengths given in an imperial measurement unit will receive instant disqualification. My First attempt: I have two video's, first one is reasonably short and shows me demonstrating delivering a piece to my knoodle in orbit. It also shows dramatic parachute deployment netting me a 5% drama bonus. Second video shows my ~250 meter knoodle doing some weird bending (5% bonus for that dramatic effect). I also show the dramatic and problematic de-orbiting and re-entry for which the kerbal turned a new shade of green (5% bonus for that dramatic effect). I also show an accident where i bumped the knoodle causing the solar panels to shatter and release debris. However, i'm calling game bug for that one since the physics engine seems to be doing something it shouldn't which caused the panels to shatter so no disqualification. See video because I recorded it. 5% bonus for taking up 8 pieces to the knoodle in one go. 5% (times 2 for two occurrences) drama bonus for a mishaps on launch. See video. No kerbal deaths occurred. 5% drama bonus for a mishap on ascent resulting in ship damage. 5% bonus for unique method of de-orbiting. HOWEVER... I have had to disqualify my first attempt due to running out of RCS fuel while trying to place a piece and in my frustration I slammed my mouse on my desk (the thing would not dock!) and the mouse bounced and hit the space key which executed my de-orbit stage thus leaving a temporary construct (debris) in orbit. My apologies but this video is 2hours 10 mins long (despite being cut, the total flight real time was 4+ hours in length) and contains live commentary. But you will find it worth it as i explain the rocket, it's methods, issues with long flexible ships in orbit and show the drama. Feel free to use the pause button. Leader Boards: None yet... Disqualification Board: #1 Comwarrior's attempt #1

I had another go. Sped upto 4X speed and narration. Would love to know how far everyone else has got, press F3 and it'll bring up a window that will tell you distance traveled etc. -

You skipped through my video didn't you... and you didn't pay attention to the bits you actually watched... Your quick to ridicule and in doing so you've asked a very stupid question. If you wish to know how stupid... watch my video again from start to finish paying full attention. [Note to mod: sorry but I'm being as polite as i can here] -

This is how you resolve the traction problem... -
Helicopter height and distance challenge.
Comwarrior replied to Comwarrior's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well, i had another go at beating my records... Unfortunately i wasn't quite so sucessfull this time... Lots of crashes and weird stuff going on... -
Also, i would appreciate any suggestions about video content etc... Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Thanks max... appreciated. So, i've read the FAQ's etc for it... i understand it might nuke my pc... The question now is... does some kind wonderfull person have a server i can play on and fly some heavy metal?

Hi everyone, Trying to get to grips with stuff on the forums and struggling. Except for the challenges, simple to understand where everything is. Started playing KSP demo June last year, but then after a couple of months or so bought the full game. I started uploading videos of my exploits November ish last year. Been mainly working on space stations and bases. System Specs: Liquid cooled custom built system. AMD Athlon II X2 3GHz @ 3.8GHz 4GB Kingston Hyper-X DUAL DDR3 400MHz @ 560MHz (base speed) AMD/ATI Radeon 4770 512MB GDDR5 (core 750MHz mem 800MHz defaults) @ 830MHz core 850MHZ mem Twin 19" flat screens. Would love to get involved with KSP multiplayer but can't seem to find it. Youtube account name is comwarrior69. My youtube account is used for everything i get up to. Any questions, give me a shout.

ok, i'll have a look at that in my CFG... I wasn't trying to get captured... i was circularizing my orbit to put me clear of all the other planets so that i could mount a rescue mission... I thaught i was clear of everything... [insert adult language]

how do i do that?

Two glitches in the space of 15 mins... I'm pretty sure Jool was hungry for green blooded kerbals after i dropped one into Jools atmo just to see what would happen when the pod got to the center...

Good gravy... What have I done!?!?
Comwarrior replied to little square dot's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
That would be interesting to do in space... see if you can fill the kerbal system up with bill's and bob's... Does it let you time warp? -
So, last night heading out to jool with my Mk2 Atlantis (stargate atlantis) and something was glitchy when it calculated my approach and instead of coming in with the right distance from jool to go straight to layth it was on a terminal trajectory with the center of jool and it was cooking with gas... +10Km/s (high energy transfer) So, emergency burn as I shoot past lathes orbit and i run out of fuel. Fuel generators on but not producing fuel fast enough. So, i make the decision to eject and use the rescue and return pod to save my kerbals. I burn and burn in the RR and after slamming into Jools atmo causing a dramatic aerobraking i'm left in the pod on a bad orbit thats intent on slamming me into Jool sooner or later. Again i burn to circularise my orbit so that i can send a rescue for the rescue return pod (which failed to do it's job in this case) and i run out of fuel. Fearing an issue with encountering another planet i start using the RCS to sort my orbit out... when this happens... c'mon KSP give me a break! Last night was just not my night for KSP! I Think KSP wanted to eat a kerbal since i havn't killed one in a long time... How does the story end? I'll tell you later once i've figured out how to save them...

Helicopter height and distance challenge.
Comwarrior replied to Comwarrior's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
well, yes i'm challenging myself...but doesn't mean that someone else can't have a go too... Basically, to set height and/or distance traveled records with a helicopter made with a bearing from stock parts. I don't think their is a bearing part that comes with ksp yet so you'd have to build a bearing with stock parts. My records in the vid are... Height: 1221m Highest speed over land: 175m/s (probably while crashing) Ground distance covered: 13,808m Total distance traveled: 15,798m -
Greetings all. I watched a video from chicken keeper from about 6 months ago about KSP helicopters and i just had to have a go. So i challenged myself to set height and distance records. To try to get higher, faster and further... Here is the video with my results... I hope everyone enjoys. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions and as always constructive criticism. I'm attempting to beat my own records with my own new designs. EDIT: Basically, to set height and/or distance traveled records with a helicopter made with a bearing from stock parts. How do you make colored lights? -
Hi all, I'm new to the forums been playing with KSP for 5 months or so. before christmas i started recording my exploits, basically, i wanted to build a mobile station with lander, and take it out to a planet, drop the lander, run around fetch it back up and go home. However, i've seen Scott Manlys space tourism videos and decided to start a new series when i put a station in orbit and a base on every planet and moon. So, i wanted to ask people to take a look at my videos, suggest improvements (so of the first lot probably are boring since they were recorded and narrated while i was playing). Please be aware, my channel is used for alot of other things none KSP too. Also, i am running about 2 weeks behind on video's due to having to narrate in 3rd person and stitch video's together if it's a long mission. http://www.youtube.com/user/comwarrior69 Thanks in advance

OK, so, one of my video's (not posted yet) i was landing on minmus. I'd made a manuver node did a burn and it went horribly wrong and I overshot slightly. So, emergency retrograde burn and I'm in the vicinity of minmus. So trying to use the manuver node to enter a decent orbit of minmus and instead i manage... well, something i thought was impossible... I managed to get a trajectory that caused an encounter with kerbal, mun and a close call with minmus again... and my first thought was themat and hoc... So, i have a challenge for you both... To plot a trajectory and then fly a path that has an encounter with a minimum of three planets. Rules: Once you are within the gravity field of the first gravity body (planet or moon), no further propulsion or control input is allowed and SAS should be turned off. This means no reaction controls, no RCS, no aerodynamic control surfaces. Oh, and no shifting of mass or weird breaking of the laws of physics ether. The player must be completely hands off and leave their space... pod... in the hands of Sir Isaac Newton.... No automated or computer controlled flight pathing or auto burning. The flight MUST encounter the gravity fields of atleast 3 planetary body's. Ballistic trajectory outside the solar system constitutes an end to the challenge. Crashing on a planet constitutes the challenge is a failure regardless of the number of planets encountered. Getting locked into an orbit that will never 'end' or encounter another body constitutes an end to the challenge. Minimum of one kerbal present in vehicle. Automatic failure of challenge if kerbal death occurs. No custom or edited parts or mods. The originating gravity body does not count as the first sling shot, however should the space craft encounter the planet after encountering another body then this does count. The sun does not class as an encounter unless the pass is below 100KM from the suns surface. Aerodynamic surfaces are allowed, but no control surfaces. Automatic challenge fail if any debris is left at the end of the challenge. This includes any remaining launch clamps (but you 'could' blow them up...) No EVAing kerbals... Artificial gravity does not count. Time warping between encounters is allowed, however, the total encounter / sling shot must not be performed at time warps above 2x. Bonus Points are awarded for: Additional encounters above three with planetary bodies/gravity fields. Every group of three kerbals present in the launch vehicles. Every breakage that occurs ether during or after the first encounter. Low passes below 10KM height of a moon. Huge bonus points for: Every instance of atmo skimming with visible effects. Landing on a planet with no damage (lowering the gear / deploying of parachutes is allowed but only AFTER atmospheric re-entry is complete and fireball / mach effects have disappeared.... Multiple vehicles containing kerbals launched at the same time that also travel the same initial trajectory. (separation allowed but only prior to encounter of first gravity field)... (number of slingshots are averaged between all pods / vehicles)... (all pods / vehicles must include atleast one kerbal) MEGA bonus points for: Landing without damage on dry land on kerbal Landing without damage on dryland within 25KM of KSC or the second one. Passing through the arch on the mun Space craft weighing over 200T at the end of the challenge. MEGA Points deducted for every time a kerbal is sad. In the highly unlikely event of a tie, winner is determined by lowest mission time (this includes the time even if you time warp prior to launch, or while in orbit before first encounter). This one will keep people entertained for days trying to get the best... I really hope mat&hoc take this one up as a challenge... CW
