  1. Well I seem to have hit some kind of bug. I was able to connect fuel lines between tanks 2 and 3 and this allowed tank 2 to drain but tanks 0 and 1 remain full. So I rebuild the stacks, this worked for two of them they drained properly top down...without any extra fuel lines. But the third stack well I tried three times but tanks 0 and 1 would never drain and on the third time the other two stacks started doing this too even though I hadn't touched them! This is with symmetry off. So I said to heck with it I'll just connect fuel lines between all the tanks...but it won't let me I can connect a fuel line between tanks 2 and 3 but not between 1 and 2 or 0 and 1. One good think I've got the hang of connecting things, but even though they look connected and solid something is not registering. My part count is in 300 range maybe that's too much? But really I'm thinking it's some kind of parsing error in how fuel flow between parts is calculated. I'm going to try rebuilding the stack one more time this time with 3 way symmetry. Otherwise maybe I'll try the support forum or give up for a version or two see if it gets better with new releases.
  2. I told Jeb this was a ground stress test only and NOT to press the big red launch button...
  3. Alas they are all green. I thought about the symmetry thing pretty sure those are ones placed using it. I have things so tight not to mention all those struts to replace (I like rigid structures) that I'm having a hard time placing things (I'm new at this I'm sure I haven't found all the tricks yet) so I was hoping to avoid having to redo a bunch of stuff...hope it works. First thing is a trip to the sun (it will pick up the science there) then I was wondering if I could do a sort of grand tour of the inner system, mostly I want to carry enough fuel to go places and do things...it's really a learning tool. I know all those struts look like over kill, but I got tired of things breaking apart and all those triangles make for very rigid reliable ships...it's an overgrown version of my last ship which held up on my Mun trip quite nicely with no problems despite the abuse I gave it, I plan to add a lander to this once (if) the design is proven (biggest problem no is ejection trying to figure out best placement for sepratrons). Besides, bigger is funner that's why I learned to fly 747's in flight simulator back in the day. What I guess I need is docking ports so I can assemble things in orbit but for now it all goes up at once (pun intended).
  4. Wasn't the winglets. Still the same problem most of the stacks work fine but three of them only drain fuel from the two bottom tanks. If I ran the line the other way I'd only have one tank's worth of fuel (the lines are unidirectional according to the info). Funny this thing was rotating around the horizontal axis a bit so I added the winglets which stopped it, but now with them gone it's still stable (though I haven't tried to turn it). What you see here is just the second stage once I get it working right (and even on bad fuel it goes to 7km) I'll add the third stage.
  5. No breakage (will not until the ship runs out of power too soon). The stacks are independent. The one on the left works the one on the right...with winglet doesn't. Hmmm. now that I think about it the other two that don't work also have winglets maybe it's interfering with the fuel scan process? I'll try removing them (need 'em though).
  6. I found some help about the rules of fuel flow but I don't think that's my problem. Here's a diagram of my fuel engine stack: | --t800 #0 | --t800 #1 | --t800 #2 |=| --t800 #3 radially connected to t800 # 4 and has a pipe flowing from 3 to 4 ^ ^ --the two engine connected at the bottom of the stack. Some of these work fine fuel is used from them all. But some do this: fuel in #4 and #3 is used up and then flame out while tanks 0, 1 and 2 stay full. Any ideas?
  7. Just found this--very handy. Thanks! loaded it up in openoffice. Now what I'd love to know is what constitutes low space and high space for each planet and the sun. I was thinking of doing a sun mission as it seems it gives a lot of science points, but just how close do I have to get to it (given how I keep missing the Mun...think I got the trick now though...it seems a lot harder to miss the sun )
  8. I'd been keeping an eye on it for awhile finally took the plunge last Dec but didn't start playing until a few days ago...sorry I procrastinated, still it's nice to see the progress that's been made...bodes well for the future.
  9. Persistence wins!! I'm now able to get out past the Mun and back to a safe landing in a stable rocket ship, now I just need to improve my aim to get close to the Mun (ok I got my Navbal symbols mixed up, ahem) and then turn my orbiter into a Mun lander. At least I'm picking up some science again. Fly me to the Mun, let me play among the stars, let me see what spring is like on Jool and Duna...
  10. Richy...I'll second that. That image in neat, hope the program actually looks like that some day, right now Kerban reminds me of the planets in the orginal Star Trek...you know the ones that never had clouds. Seems like the easiest way to steer an asteroid is with a solar powered engine on it when it's far enough out that the small push would let you change it's course before getting to Kerban I'm not that far into the tech tree yet but I'd think you could do this with some of the stock engines (impulse drive is electric powered right?) even if the asteroid is really big. Mount and aim (yeah I'm glossing over the math) the engine and let it run for a few months or years. You'd need some way to anchor, of course. But I'm no rocket scientist by any means more a seat of the pants type (for now).
  11. Tried 6 new designs, I'm trying to get to the mun and back (one way is no problem just never have enough fuel to get all the way back) every one of them failed most quite spectacularly, it's frustrating yet addicting at the same time...if I add 3 more boosters and a bunch of support beams... At least Jeb survived about half of them. My favorite was when the ship went into a spectacular spin, separation was impossible, and finally smacked right into rocket hanger, I don't think just Jeb died in that one. BTW do Kerbals live underground? Chizbro...are you in sandbox or career mode? I'm thinking of going back to sandbox the limits on my tech are hurting me I probably shouldn't have gone even on them and tried for more advanced science things.
  12. One more: buckadingdongs...just don't stand on them.
  13. One more: buckadingdongs...just don't stand on them.
  14. Well I made it, total rocket redesign, but ran out of fuel just as I achieved it so put on a bigger tank and now I'm in orbit with more than 1/2 tank of fuel yeah! I may never leave this program going to space like this was a dream now I feel like I made it...but this program is going to take my life away and good-bye Civ and Sins this is "real life". No doubt this is "problem" program. In career mode so I don't have much choice of engine yet, just three liquid fueled ones, but I used the small one in the final stage with a t200 tank to complete the orbit and that worked great. Now I really need to go and figure out all the Navball extras (the basics are easy as I was a long time FlightSim user). Considering this program is in Alpha there is a lot to do and learn. Think I need a joystick (my old one isn't even USB)...or maybe a 3d mouse...this program might become a money sink too.
  15. As a noob I must say I enjoy the challenge, it was actually pretty easy to sub-orbital flights, I'm having a bit of a problem doing a complete orbit (I keep getting about 3/4 around the planet) but I have hopes for my new rocket design which gives me a lot more fuel and thrust and should do an orbit easy...once I figure out the control problem and the occasional engine breaking off (I'm trying to get struts to work, but I'm having a terrible time getting them to attach 19 out of 20 times they won't do the second attachment)...but I'm having so much fun with all this there is no rush the Mun will wait...and there is always sandbox if I get impatient. I'll figure it out I'm sure. I'm spending way way way too much time in KSP! Which is very much the main problem.
  16. Possible but it was just a basic capsule and still maneuvered so I don't think so and since it started working again after restarting KSP, but I'll keep that in mind it didn't occur to me to check how a chute was deployed but it makes sense when I think about it, now I'm in career mode and don't have access to solar panels, oh well. No repacking it was fresh launch each time. Link doesn't appear to be working. Thanks again, all info is useful at this stage in my explosive career.
  17. One reason I mentioned Voyager (well it is my favorite of all the series even though I saw some of the original series when it first aired...when I was allowed to stay up late enough ) is that there are a few episodes where the ship is landed ), and in one it is having maintenance performed on it ("Nightingale" in season 7). But yeah there are no end of good ships to choose from if you can find the time to do this...I always envy those with artistic skill such as yours.
  18. As someone who used to repair computer for many years I should learn to follow my own advise: if you're having weird problems reset it or in this case close and reload KSP if something you were doing worked and you didn't change anything and it stops working consistently...it is alpha after all.
  19. Well after 10 hours the problem hasn't recurred so seems to have been a one off. I did have a cute rip off once but that was the only fail in about 12 missions. Thanks again.
  20. Wow really nice drawings. I was just going to compliment and thank you for sharing this work, but then I thought: I'd love to see some sort of Star Trek like ship (like say Voyager) with some Kerbals in jet packs doing maintenance on it. I could screen capture an image of Voyager or any other Star Trek ship (I own all episodes) and send it to you if you need it (don't want to public post the capture due to copyright).
  21. I also have a recent card a 770 it to has no problems with KSP and GeForce Experience, though I'm a driver behind (don't fix what isn't broken). You may be right, or maybe there was a glitch on the first driver install.
  22. Sorry, should have said the failure is it won't deploy. No mods, doesn't matter what altitude it just won't deploy. I also went with a smaller capsule, which is the only item the chute is attached too, still the same problem. I did try adding a second chute but my rocket became unstable (probably the straw that broke the camel's back). Ok I reloaded KSP and rebuilt my ship from scratch since it was only a few parts and the chute now deploys, maybe it was just some cumulative bug, hopefully won't happen again as I wouldn't be thrilled to have to rebuild a complicated ship (when I get to that level, right now I'd be happy if I just complete one orbit...trying to figure this out on my own so it takes longer). Jeb seems happier now I think he was worried he'd run out of his nine lives. I will check out RealChute even so as there is something about these stock chutes that seems un-real to me. Thanks, Bob PS No I'm not warping, only do that outside of atmosphere.
  23. I saw a Red Dwarf reference so I'll try one I haven't seen, how about quatloos or kwatloos? I personally think kredits is pretty obvious since it's such a sci-fi standard but with a nice Kerbal take to it (adding "K" to every word).
  24. I'm new to the program currently just sending my Kerbals on parabolic orbits. The problem is my parachutes keep failing they seemed to work at first but now I'm getting a 100% failure rate over my last five launches. The rocket is simple a capsule with parachute a decoupler some fuel tanks and an engine. I've made sure the capsule bottom is oriented so that the heat shield is facing reentry direction and parachute is on top but it doesn't matter. The staging for the chute is set at 0. Any ideas? (I tried a search for this problem but didn't find anything). A lot of fun anyway even though Jeb keeps being atomized. Oh this in sandbox.
