  1. Thanks for all the great advice guys, much appreciated. I will adjust by build to suit what has been said, though the only air cooler option offered is a coolermaster hyper 212 evo, which is not as good so will probably stick with the h100i. I googled it (I know, right!) and the prevailing opinion seems to be in favour of the h100i.
  2. SSD is a Kingston hyperX 3k. Samsung evo is actually a little cheaper so its just down to which is most reliable. Im not paying outright - so a few extra $ doesnt really matter. I have spoken to a friend who agreed with the comments about the h60. I'l look into it, trying to decide if I should just put a h100i on there and that way there is relatively good cooling for clocking. Regarding clock speed, once I have got my head around it all I will be looking to get as high as I (safely) can. If the performance is there, use it right? RAM - I cant get the RAM I want in 2x4, so I am pretty stuck with just the one stick. Edit: would 16gb (2x8) 1600mhz be a better choice than 8gb (1x8) 2133mhz? Im not sure if I will really see the benefits of the extra speed of the single stick anyway.
  3. Hi Cantab, thanks for your reply. Il be using the SSD for the operating system, nothing else. The 1TB disk will hold everything else. I wont overclock to start with, as I dont have enough knowledge but I intend learning and eventually overclocking (hence the liquid cooler). The 8GB RAM is only 1 stick, so I can always stick another on too. I dont know if the motherboard is good for overclocking though, Im going to read up on how to tell before I purchase.
  4. Hey guys, so last time I was looking to buy a pc this thread helped a lot. I didnt buy it, as other things took priority at the time, but now I am able to buy again and with a bit more budget. I have chosen to buy pre built, and have spec'd this from pc specialist: cpu -i5 4690k motherboard -asus z97-a memory - 8gb kingston 2133mz graphics - gtx 970 4gb hard disk 1- 120gb kingston ssd hd 2 - 1tb 7200rpm 32mb cache power supply - corsair 750w cpu cooler - corsair h60 OS - 8.1 64 bit. How does that look? Im no tech genius, I know the bare minimum about cpus, gpus etc. I will be using it for video editing, KSP, Iracing and maybe a flight sim or two, along with web browsing etc. Will it be enough for high settings in game with decent fps?
  5. Ah ok, I have cut back to 2x4GB of ram, and used the money saved to list a 240GB SSD. I think that will be enough, I have all sorts of rubbish on my laptop and it takes up 60GB. Thanks for your help guys, put my mind at ease.
  6. Thanks for the fast reply, much appreciated. Do I need a CPU cooler? I cant figure out if it comes with one, or if I have to add one. I didnt add a SSD as I was looking at prices/GB and it seemed like a expensive route, will it really make that much of a difference? I forgot to add also, I can get windows 7 pretty cheap, but Im not sure if I need 64 bit/32 bit.
  7. Hi guys, first post in this section so please be kind! Im plagued by an old, falling apart laptop at the moment, which has denied me my KSP fix. Im trying to learn about computer hardware, but im still in the early stages. I have put together a wish list for a potential build, but to be honest Im not too sure if it will be up to spec. I will need it for online web browsing, KSP, netflix/youtube and maybe a few other games (old dos type games, not FPS stuff). My budget is minimal, If Im being honest I would like to stay below £450. I have a moniter, key board and mouse already. Would anyone mind having a look and telling me what they think? So far I have only played ksp on minimum everything, so any improvement on that is welcome. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3wIWe Thanks in advance.
  8. Honestly? Straight up til 80km, turn right, full power. I *thought* that I had an average knowledge of space. I probably do, owing to the thousands of people that know literally nothing, but I knew a lot less than I thought. Now, Its all I can do to restrain myself telling everyone else how it REALLY works.
  9. Principia. The only 'must have' game in my opinion. Its mega hard, but you can build just about anything if you set your mind to it. In sandbox mode, you can build something as simple as a car, or build something that will fry your brain just trying to figure out the wiring. I very rarely get into stuff so heavily, but this and KSP are my 2 that I always come back to.
  10. Have fun If you have never been before, its dark, lots of running, expect to be knackered. Great fun though.
  11. Ok, If you like I can edit a file and post it? I dont know where to start with making 'a mod' but I can code stuff easily enough. Saying that, I dont want to get in any trouble, what is squads stance on editing KSP files?
  12. Why dont you just edit the parts file, to give you the desired ISP and thrust? Edit: If you not sure how to, I can do it for you, but I dont know what exact numbers would be considered balanced.
  13. Im a newbie around these parts. But even so, one of the first things I heard about was the fabled Whackjob. Im excited to see what you can do with a new rig, and a new update. Im struggling a little on a duel core @ 1.6GHz, but I think you wont have such problems.
  14. Nothing. I have now been home 12 hours, trying to make this thing work. First it rotated sideways,so you had to tilt your head to the left, so I had to fix that. Then Once I fixed it, I thought ''Great. Lets go get some asteroids!'' but no. I start a new save, aaaaaaaaaaaand nothing. Locked into the space center view. Cant click VAB, cant click tracking station etc. Ok, exit and try again. Nope, exit button doesn't work either. Force close. repeat 5 times, try different settings, repeat another 5 times. Nope. Try the patcher, maybe its been updated to fix whatever this problem is. Of course, the patcher doesn't work. Ok, clean install. Nope, the download links on the main site are broken. You shall not go to space today.
  15. Having done this, I have just read about launch windows. I did not know this before. I had to burn to the far side of Eve's orbit, burn retrograde to put my Apoaps on the right part, then circularize and wait for an encounter. Im sure this wasted a huge amount of fuel, meaning I might be able to go again and make it back, if im smart with fuel. Well, I guess I have a lot to learn!
