  1. This is one of the major misconceptions about using biometrics in security, I can't remember the proper phrase, but it boils down to this;

For security, you need something that identifies you (username, fingerprint, face recog, whatever), this doesn't necessarily have to be secret.

You also need something *secret* that only you know, such as a password. Many people think that a fingerprint/faceprint is a password, it isn't!

  2. After chatting to a few people in IRC, my theory of "If you've already achieved the objective, you won't get offered the contract" is wrong, as several people have pointed out that they never get the "Explore Minmus" contract offered, even though they've never even been in the SOI of Minmus.

Maybe it's based on acheivements and science level then, if you have aquired less than X science total and haven't been to Y planet, offer mission, otherwise offer harder missions.

Either way it's a bit annoying, although I see why it's done like that. If it were a linear progression (Get offered Mun contract, then Minmus, Duna etc) it might be annoying for people who don't want to bother visiting the closer planets/moons.

  3. That's a pity, from what I understand certain contracts won't get offered to you if you've already completed the target it sets you. This means that, for example, early on in the game if you manage to hit orbit then you get penalised as you won't be offered the orbit contract, which actually makes the game harder as you won't be able to earn as much cash from the contracts.

  4. So I've done all the "Explore X" contract apart from Tylo, looking through my archives it appears that I never got offered the "Explore Dres" contract. So I've got a couple of questions:

    1. Do you get offered an "Explore Dres" contract?

    2. When should you get offered it? My guess is after the Eve/Duna contracts are completed?

    3. If the answer to Q1 is yes, then is there anything I can do to get the Dres contract to appear? Modify my save file maybe?

    Thanks

  5. i have my tug parked at 150k orbit but mechjeb wont xfer to eeloo because the mission window is 200+ days away so to speed that up i have to move the craft to 600km orbit

The standard trick is to switch to another vessel that's stationary on Kerbin, which will allow you to do maximum time acceleration until it's close to the mission window, then switch back to the vessel in orbit. Kerbal Alarm Clock is handy for making sure you don't miss the window.

The other option is to delay launching into orbit until the mission window.

  6. Seeing a big button that says 'tuturial' right in the menu, or having to search for it in some random building inside a game you already started?
New saves could begin with a pop-up suggestion to visit the KTC for help in learning how to play and master the game.

At the end of the day I feel it would tie the game together better than the current method, which is a bit clunky IMHO. I mean, how many games nowadays do this anyway (start new game, get taken straight to the tutorial). A lot of us are forgetting the steep learning curve this game has, so anything that makes it more accessible to new players is always going to be a plus in my books.

Also I like the idea of being able to 'train' my Kerbalnauts so they can earn the right to wear the orange suits :-)

The one issue I thought of was that some of the scenarios/tutorials rely on spawning various ships, which wouldn't be possible with a game in progress.

  7. KSP can be very daunting to new players and a way to help with this would be to have a "Kerbal University" building. So rather than having to exit out to the main menu, you can click on the University building to learn more.

I think this would be good as the game could then keep track of what scenarios/tutorials you have completed and help with the immersion factor.

    Any thoughts?

  8. Been having a lot of fun with this. I tried it out a while ago and didn't realise about the "revert to SPH/VAB 1000 credits" thing, so I instantly ran into dept and got very frustrated with it. I'm guessing there has been a lot of balancing done since then.

I'm sorta stuck on one mission though, Kerbolo II. I can't see anyway of doing it for 60k (I've noticed others have pointed out the same problem). Bit of a shame, as the difficulty gradient was not too steep, then all of a sudden *bam*

May I suggest moving that mission to later on as atm, would make more sense.

EDIT: Actually, this mission was way easier than I first thought. After a couple of tips from the guys in the IRC channel I managed to get it completed. An idea would be to have a 'tips' option that cuts back your mission paycheck, but outlines the easiest way to get the job done.
