  1. I myself am hoping for a type of "quest" system (in this case they would be missions) where you are graded on budget and efficiency for receiving a mission to return a sample return from Eve or put a science lab/telescope in high Kerbin orbit. This way it doesn't matter when you get the tech, it's how you use it.
  2. The Cassini space craft has flown through the plumes many times already and analyzed what is being sprayed out. The problem is that the water is being blasted out with some crazy force so anything left is the size of a dust mote: Read here. Also the German Space agency was creating an "Ice Mole" to do exactly what Duxwing stated: See here. There's even a vimeo vid on it if you look up and can understand German. I haven't heard anything on the project recently though so I would believe it got scrapped. Yes...I've done waaaay to much research on Enceladus...but it's my second favorite moon.
  3. Gravity map you ask? That's what the GRAIL mission did: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/grail/multimedia/pia16587.html I'm certain the info is out there for everything needed.
  4. Check this out. I can't imagine KSP'ers guessing at this. So what are you best calculations? I'm trying to dig up technical info but I'm at work...Eyes on the Solar system might help with LADEE's current telemetry. I'm also trying to figure out what changes will take place for its orbital maintenance. I think our goal should be able to get within 10 seconds of impact. Anybody up for the challenge?
  5. I did the same...EVA'ed but when I did a report it just said "High over Kerbin". Also, I heard that you can take a sample from the asteroid...is that true?
  6. I didn't think I did, but when I looked, I had something called "Treeloader". It's for editing the Tech Tree but I'm sure I didn't download it...it had to come with another mod. Thanks for the help and replies everyone...time to go Klaw something!!!
  7. -5 points for guessing, +5 points for guessing the Aerodynamics node.
  8. Thanks for your reply Othuyeg...however I don't have anything under the Specialized Construction node. I'm thinking one of my mods is messing with it.
  9. I'm struggling to find the Klaw anywhere in my tech tree. I started a new Career mode today to experience some roids whizzing at me (only to find impact does nothing . However when I spent saving and reloading spending 1000 science down each tree I found nothing (or missed it repeatedly perhaps). When looking at the part file it says this: TechRequired = actuators Actuators? Can somebody familiar with career mode please tell me specifically what tree/node it is in. I was told "The claw is tier 5 tech and requires advanced construction." but found nothing under Specialized Construction which is the tier after Advanced Construction.
  10. Where is the claw in the science tree...I got a bogey inbound and only just to the point where I'm about to land on Mun.
  11. Nice! I thought about the limitless fun with KAS. Parachute an asteroid...make an asteroid rover...Space Station Asteroid...
  12. Sorry if this was already asked...I tried searching I just got stuff that didn't relate. Since asteroids are dockable...can you dock asteroids together? I want to make another moon. ;-)
  13. I tried a few times...then I figured out I had the docking port Sr. on backwards. I was so mad I went through the effort of creating a deorbiter just to watch it burn up in the atmosphere and crash to the ground. After that I had the ports on correctly it was a bear, but then I,J,K,L just clicked and I was able to dock for the first time...in revers.e
  14. Failplanes, and overengineered rockets, but not so overegineered that they include small things like batteries, parachutes, or docking ports put on correctly.
  15. You have to find the right tutorial. The Scott Manley one actually didn't do it for me. This post hammered it home and got me to dock: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/32905-Beginner-How-to-dock-in-3-easy-steps And I actually docked in reverse the first time (backwards ship)... Bur really...the most important part is making sure you have your docking ports put on the right way. Seriously. Not that I would have done suck a thing...
  16. I love the David vs Goliath feel to this - Multi-million dollar production games that produced mundane, stale playability vs low budget indie games that provide original gameplay and content. Knock-em down Kavid!
  17. RogueMason - Still those are pretty fun shots! Betelgeuse is my second favorite star, and Orion is my personal favorite constellation. You don't need anything super fancy to get started. Heck a webcam can attach to your telescope with the right mount. If your Celestron has GOTO then you might be able to get away with a few second capture, and stack the results with software. Higher up CCD's and DSLR's will get you better results, but that means more money. Astrophotography is pretty much one of the most expensive hobbies you can get into!
  18. Wow...some amazing images! A down to Earth astrophoto with some star trails:
  19. Photographing the moon is not easy. Most of the time it turns out looking like a bright light and nothing more. Everyone should be proud of all these images because they're great!
  20. Thanks! Things get tricky when attaching the DSLR so if you need any help let me know. If your scope doesn't have goto you might want to take a bunch of shots and stacking them with software. You've got great detail in your shot so I bet you can get some awesome images! You should make your own. It's a little cheaper. I bought a sheet of baader solar safety film and was able to make a filter for my DSLR and scope from the same sheet. Here is the result from my scope: Taken on 20130604, this is the best of 70 images stacked of 400 taken. Noticeable sunspots are 1764 and 1762, with 1763 in between them. The top and bottom got cut off because I need a focal reducer (which sadly is not available for my scope) and I don't have a drive, so this was a hand guided attempt. Orion Starmax 127 Canon T3i My solar filter LOL:
  21. Howdy all...I do some photography. My obsession is astrophotography, but since I live in Cleveland clear skies is a rarity. I also shoot some decay, and landscape but really hooking my DSLR to my Orion Starmax 127 (now known as APEX) is my love. Hope this link works:
  22. I can talk to one co-worker about it which is nice, but the rest no way. I found it helps to describe it as simPhysics. This lets the other person know I'm about to talk about more astronomy stuff...an obsession they know I have at least. So they can either walk away, or learn a thing or two!
  23. I put a 1.25 to 2.5 adapter upside down on the top of one of my vehicles. I then "docked" to the object (space station peace in my case) with it pointing pro-grade and my "De-orbiter" facing retro, and just burned retrograde, slowly at first until I was comfortable it wasn't going to fly off in any direction. Just make sure your space debris is Kerbal free!
