  1. Binary etched onto some metal? With some written text in between each line, just in case they cannot read binary.
  2. Rockets working one day, then not the next. I've lost count of how many times this happens. It is sometimes because I tweak a single strut. OR change my max acceleration on launch (so as to not thrust it's self apart). But sometimes, sometimes working rockets just stop, self destruct and I've not even had a game update or anything. :'( The other one is rockets spinning out of control for no reason at high altitude. Either drag or COG changes I think. Makes for nice fireworks though... [edit] PS, it worked! Twice as many struts as yesterday, but the rocket has now stopped exploding at 40,000m!
  3. Nah. There are many things, even in 8.1 that are broken by design. By that, I mean they went "this is a great idea, we can take off 2 of the wheels of the car, stick a spike in the centre of the steering wheel, and set the seat belts on fire" and someone said "yep, go with it!". Example in point. As I've used Windows for countless years, I finally decided to give MS the benefit of the doubt and use "install updates automatically". I always use "install ONLY when I decide" as I don't trust them. In all instances of windows, once an install has finished, you get asked "do you wish to restart" with a yes/no or a "delay". If it's a very important update, you can only delay. But you CAN delay, as you might have important work running, and not be able to turn off the PC. Well guess what, by design Windows 8 (and 8.1) automatically turns your computer off in the middle of work to "update". Yep, if you have not saved that work you spent 8 hours on, your done for. But no worries, right, you did save... and it corrupted because of a forced update. But again, no worries, because you have backups... which were disabled from 7 to 8 for "design choices"... GAH!!! I do not take kindly to companies who think they know so much better than the user/customer that they are willing to risk such things for "progress".
  4. It is how it always goes. Leave something for long enough, and it turns from a choice/incidental quick fix, to a requirement. With that all the social and economic pressures to not change it. The best option is to start on the correct footing, the harder option is to change something later. Take atomic electron orbitals described to be the same as planetary orbitals, as an example. The teachings examples are effectively wrong to begin with, but as there are lots of people invested in the model and illustration, it keeps traction and stays around. The Wrong: http://www.chemguide.co.uk/atoms/properties/orbits.gif The Right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_orbital
  5. 99%* or more of asteroids have to have originated within our solar system. Earth is a planet, and to become one, and continue as one, it needs to remove obstacles. So 99% of the asteroids will have already hit us or have been deflected in the last 3.5 billion years or more. That's right, 3.5 billion years, a long time and long enough to clear the way safely. For the other 1% or less left they are small enough to not be a worry. For the other other 1% of asteroids not originating from within our own solar system, but passing by, they have an astronomically small chance (see what I did there!? ) of hitting. So they'll already miss. For a KSP related example of this, try "hitting" the sun in KSP. It's not easy, right? Even though it's a massive gravity well, because of the effect of gravity and the extra energy required. Adding to that it's size relative to the rest of space. (See http://what-if.xkcd.com/109/ for other reasons it's so hard to "hit" something) We are safe** . * All figures are wild estimates, but within the acceptable margin of error for a forum post I guess. ** I take no responsibility for that rock about to hit us, but in all reasonableness, we will still survive better than most other things that can happen...
  6. A chemical filter only has to work on occasion (when in use), a biological one needs 100% efficiency. In reality the biggest risk would come from someone putting a Martian on a leash, and using them as their own army!
  7. Something more like recovery of a specific rock on a specific (existing) planet is more like a "challenge". Fuel and time are not a real challenge, just a bit of patience, and all the stats in the world just boil down to fuel and time. So something with skill or planning would be specific flight locations, landings and or fly bys. Such as "Misson for tour of 2 Jool moons" or "return rocks from Minmus". Once something along the lines of re-entry heat or Life support are added, things will be REALLY challenging.
  8. Even better is using the wheels to then drive up a mountain (and gain an easier ascent). But you'd need to land very close to the shore to do it in stock, as there are no props/electric propulsion for water craft.
  9. Is it possible for a mod to replicate the right click mouse button with a keyboard press? As keyboard seeks ok in 64bit Unity, and the bug only effects the mouse?
  10. Lol. Great that you enjoy flying too! I love doing orbital manoeuvres and docking by hand. Real fun and can get exciting when things go wrong. It's just launches and transfer burns I automate, so I can go make a cup of tea, read a book, etc.
  11. Congrats. Nice mod and glad to hear it was successful. Looking forward to seeing more of it. :)

  12. Thanks peeps! I've got a space plane working finally. I simplified it and stuck to just a Rapeir Engine. I fluffed the landing, as I thought it would be a good idea to come in a ballistic trajectory to "save time" and pull up the last second... then I span it. But other than piloting error, it's all go now.
  13. I just find it impossible to skirt the atmosphere. I loose control every time or run out of fuel (through flight, not lack of).
  14. I'm assuming they don't stage that engine until the test, and even then only for a second or two... unless they plan to dig in on the mun?
  15. Do you read the HTML to every page before you activate it? No, the browser does that for you (yes, there are sites with small print, let alone tracking inside webpages).
  16. It's a problem with charging for an unfinished game/product. Things can be broken in multiple ways, such as "too easy" or "too hard", and it takes time to find the good middle ground. Though no excuse for abuse and complaints. Thankfully most of this community engage Squad, and Squad communicates with the community. Working together, instead of shouting out.
  17. Yep. Whenever I need to plant a flag, I pick up a Kerbal while on the way.
  18. Well, you can use the nukes close to the ground or through the atmosphere. But only for short periods, or at the right velocities. They can make nice all purpose rocket engines for small craft (though not really on Kerbin, more on the other planets... Eve excluded, but then again, nothing fairs well on Eve ).
  19. First crash on a save, after a good 10+ hours of game... no idea if it's 64 or 32 bit or both... so will investigate. So after all, this update is no worse or better than most. No complaints. [edit] Workaround for my crash was loading a different scene (tracking station) and going back to the one crashing (VAB). Now all works well. So at least the bugs are not continuous, and I can hold on till they get squashed.
