  1. Ok so I'm new to the contract recovery system. If my solid fuel rockets or liquid fuel tanks are set up to parachute to the surface after separation.... do we get money back for recycling these? Or do I just kiss those goodbye?
  2. Perhaps the big building to the left of the water tank has a centrifuge in it. Or would that be something to find in the Kerbenaughts facility? Naah...definatly science related. Did you know you can climb the staircases to the roof and walk right over the bridge roof. That would make a great freshman's or first year Kerbals race... pitty you can't have more than one person operate in the same environment. Ummm FBT... when you were hoping for a centrifuge you were talking about a working one that you can test cockpit layout in yes? An the strenght of Kerbal snaks. I see a new contract now... "Open a Kerbal snack at positive 2G" $5,000 "eat a kerbal snack at positive 4G" $20,000. Goodness forbid eat packet of peanuts at 0 G
  3. Awesome... I'm so glad I'm not the only one who a weird fascination with this complex of buildings... for some reason I want it mapped into one of those pictorial signs you see at Universities to stop you getting lost. An yep I love getting in my campus rover and driving my senior (orange suited Kerbals) around to look at this place. A bit like having a golf cart. My mind imagines what is going on in there and the fact that all things Kerbal seem to be out of some Lampoon movie... my idea of would naturally be going on is probably wrong... like .. e.g ... you know that yellow container on the left... did you know it contains a lifetime supply of Kerbals favourite snaks.... won in a card game by Jeb and now used to stock the vending Machines in the Kerbernaught centre and the life support systems in space craft. Yeah well I made that up... But so much more interesting than some of those lifeless planetoids. Oh I especially like the glazed area that is canterlevered out over the side of the building... I wonder if they launch paper darts from there?
  4. With the new Contract mode coming out and the little contracts lounge .. I mean building being allocated it got me thinking more about the existing complexes. The science complex is a wonderful work of art.. I mean for all the effort we put into exploring the Kerbin environment and the Mun has anyone considered how much thought, inspiration and design went into the science complex. Well to whoever designed it here is a big thumbs up from me.. it's really cool. If anyone wanted to label a part and give it a description what would it be...??? I mean looking at it ther is already an obvious indoor snow ski slope... or is that a rocket exhaust duct and emissions scrubber? And those little square buildings buy themselves.. are they really dangerous goods stores or are they the rooms for all the valves off of the tank farms. Where is the canteen anyway? Anyhow just throwing some inspiration and some star gazing out there.
  5. Discovered something strange. You can't save a game when your rover is on the ground. But my rovers go so fast that every few moments they get vacuum-borne (is that the correct alternative to airborne?). Anyways when you get vacuum-borne you can ALT-F5 and quick save then. In the earlier rovers I was stopping the rover and hiking it up on the legs then saving. This became tiresome. Now I can travel fast and save every now and then. I go away and do some house work for a bout ten minutes and if anything has gone awry I restart back at the save. Also the new MK V Mun Rover has 3 SAS modules. Works really well. But in fast cruise mode I found 1 module is better as it allows the wheels to settle on the terrain better. But when climbing a slope or when you go sailing way out into the air being able to easily orientate the vehicle with three SAS units is great.
  6. Well the mission on the Mun has gone really very well. However the big winner is the evolution the Mun Rover series has undertaken so far. This leaves the other canyon and the yet to be scienced Mun Biomes that I intend to travel in before ticking off on the sciencing list. This is in Career mode by the way. Also I'm hoping to male a land train o the Mun perhaps collect all the Mun rovers together.
  7. Please note this thread is listed as being unanswered. So valid to coment in my reasoning. Anyone agree?
  8. SirJodelstein? Is there a display at all for the trim control? I have used it but there is no indicator as to how much trim your applying.... seems to be only seat of pants stuff. E.g showing 1-100% of trim applied as a version of throttle. Also do you get up to speed and then apply trim or do you apply trim and see how fast it takes you. I have been using it but it seems quiet haphazard as to if I am using it correctly.
  9. Ah... I'm playing Career mode with this one and haven't unlocked those with science yet. But however that just makes the goal to unlock that stuff so much more intriguing and rewarding now. I saw a video on You Tube of a guy who made a set of rocket legs from box girders and struts and he mentioned how resilient and springy they were. So I tried out something similar and came up with this. Test runs showed it to be practically indestructible on Kerbin. It has a lot of spring outwards. Now all I need to do is find a configuration to work for 8 Wheels. Found the Youtube video... its http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o75/Martin_Ellis/Martins%20KSP%20screen%20shots/Newwheelframe.jpg' alt='Newwheelframe.jpg'>
  10. Thanks Vagani.. that would be great. How do I try your improved suspension version? I have got enough science now that I paid for the last wheel set. I have made another rover based on the Rover IV with the second largest wheels. The grip a whole lot more but have less suspension. Gives the chassis a real hard time. Also puts more twist strain on teh chassis and has sheared the bogies off. I have yet to try it on the Mun. Also last night I got my fastest speed on the Mun amazingly in two wheel drive mode. 120km/hr
  11. Thanks Mr Gold. :-). I'll do that later. I have some more screen shots I will post later on my first run on the moon. The Rover is terrific. I managed to get to 32m/s down hill..115km/hr. And I changed the bogies to a driver version and a front version. The front version has three spot lights and the rear one has the external pilot seat. Will post later.
  12. I call this my "Mun Rover IV" It has taken me ages to get it this far and even then it isnt quite right. Mun Rover IV Special things about it are. Eight wheel drive. Two leading wheels are hill side shock absorbers. Has enough panels to run the motors and the lights. Has 8 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive options through the Action button set up. I use trim settings Alt-W to throttle the Rover. Has an SAS unit central that can re roll the vehicle on to its wheels from its back The ladder is there fro kerbals to get in and out.. needs a small set of rungs too. The wheel alignment has to be spot on. That was the hardest thing to construct properly. Has couplers front and back.. I have had a train of 9 connected. The top speed is 111.6 Km/hr on the Mun. Hill climbs well. But you need to pulse the SAS on and off to allow all the driving wheels to contact the road.. other wise the SAS will hold the wheels aloft and you wont go anywhere. It has struts to anchor the unit if you get stuck on a slippery hillside going into a crater. Has an outside control/passenger seat between the bogies. Further improvements... I may attach a coloured light to show 8 or 2 wheel drive mode. I'm going to make some science trailers. Yes the earlier models have made it to the Mun and the long wheel base makes it drive very well .. of course you drive it in docking mode. More pictures... "]9 x land train of Mun Rovers.. earlier models Early http://s117.photobucket.com/user/Martin_Ellis/media/Northwestcrater.png.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o75/Martin_Ellis/Northwestcrater.png" border="0" alt=" photo Northwestcrater.png"/></a>'>advanced Mun Rover sporting a raised nose ring with the rider wheels on it. This was later abandoned for truncated pyramid frame. Note the science modules attached... I still haven't got these back to kerbin yet...??? Earliestversions on Mun .... the rover on the left was a complete failure. The earliest Rover is 6 wheel drive... which is ok but 8 is much better. I also got it there buy itself and landed a Kerbanaut later to pilot it... this was safer and allowed me to not worry about having fuel to get back. A pick up mission will be done later with a three man module with only one or less pilot nad have all three Mun rovers travel to a common point for pick up and return. Anyways hope this interesting for someone to read. P.s this is my first post so forgive me if it isn't up to your standards. I'm new to this html stuff:D
  13. Another trick is to use the Actions controls in the VAB. E.g I have a 10 wheeled rover and the front pair of wheels which are set higher up have no power or steering .. they are there to soften any hill climbs. Anyways I have the 9 key set to toggle it from 8 wheel drive with full steering to two wheel drive with no steering on the back to pair and steering on the front two pair of wheels. The drive wheels become only the second last pair. It works really well.. I can cruise and charge up on two wheel drive and then when on a hill side punch in 8 wheel drive and climb like a YAk! My fasted speed was 31 m/s on the Mun.. thats 31 x 3.6... umm ~110 km/hr... its a bit slower on Kerbin though. P.s also rule of thumb is one and half solar panels per wheel. And the standard attached panels are better than an array because the arrays are flimsy and I cant travel faster than about 30km/hr or the panels break. My Rover Mk IV... I'm quite proud of it. The hardest things to get right were the wheel alignments, ability to get kerbals in and out. It has an outside char underneath for on extra passenger. It has docking ports front and back... the most I ever had together was nine in a land train... and it was fast.. but turning was very very wide. I'd post an image but don't seem to have permission.

  15. This is tricky to explain... but here goes. I built a Mun rover that has both a Stayputnik and a one kerbal control pod. It works fine. I launched to the Mun without a crew. Landed and want it to wait there so I can send a crew to use it on the Far Eastern Crater. But I cannot seem to get back to the Kerbal Space Centre and leave it there operating. It wants to revert me to an earlier time in this crafts flight. Help please... how do I navigate back to the KSC? P.s did you know a crew report can be sent from a control pod controlled by a Stayputnic even though it has no crew? Sorry I found out the problem.... the mun rover was still throttled up... duh.
