I use the same method that Spark Plug uses; plant a flag and then target the flag with MechJeb. I find with landers, MechJeb can freak out a little bit when below 2km or so, and I tend to take over at the point to get a nice smooth landing.

I'm pretty new to Kethane as well, I'm liking the pairing with Extraplanetary launchpads that gives me incentive to build bases on other planets.
