Abstract, I think all of this doom- and- gloom is way overblown. There may be some minor inconveniences for consumers, or there may be some benefits. Time will tell. But "the entire internet will be ruined"? "Steam will be useless"? Clearly not, since both were doing just fine exceedingly well before net neutrality ever existed. I think we should all just take a deep breath, sit back, and see how it all shakes out. Nothing we can do about it anyway, and worrying/ complaining is worse than useless. Best, -Slashy

The most kerbal flat-earther I have yet to see
GoSlash27 replied to KSK's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Apparently the rocket fell off of the launcher, necessitating repairs. He's also been engaged in legal difficulties. His latest prediction is some time between Christmas and the Super Bowl. Best, -Slashy -
A fairly simple one to keep you entertained: E2A8 81DD 715C 51D7 475C 0EA8 BA3B B8BB 8E81 5D1D DC75 702E EE2B 8EE2 EE88 EA07 7715 7117 40E2 A881 7517 1DD4 75DC 0EA3 BB8E E817 5D70 0000 Hints: -The characters missing in the frequency distribution are gone for a reason, not sample size. -Older members may have an easier time cracking this than younger members. My favorite was the F-14 Tomcat. Not a pure air superiority fighter and not the "best" air superiority fighter, but definitely my favorite. Best, -Slashy

The most kerbal flat-earther I have yet to see
GoSlash27 replied to KSK's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I've been following this story looking for a reason to deflect this thread back on topic, but it appears that he has fallen off the face of the Earth. Please find it in your heart to forgive me for the horrible pun... Best, -Slashy -
Do You BELIEVE there is life outside Earth?
GoSlash27 replied to juvilado's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well... That's definitely one way to convince them that there's no intelligent life here, anyway... -Slashy -

I'm wondering the same thing. Perhaps PB666 misunderstood Diche Bach? Best, -Slashy -
Planes / Spaceplanes unflyable!
GoSlash27 replied to Morgan927's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you have the money, the Saitek X-55 comes highly recommended, especially when you include the rudder pedals. I also had the X-52 in the past. It's good if you only need a single throttle axis. Best, -Slashy -
Do You BELIEVE there is life outside Earth?
GoSlash27 replied to juvilado's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Diche Bach, True as all of that may be, that's not the sort of "intelligence" we're talking about here. Dogs, chimps, honeybees, etc. do not qualify as "intelligent" in the context of this discussion. They're not going to build civilizations and construct spaceships. They don't exhibit the kind of intelligence with which we can communicate, share knowledge, establish trade, negotiate, etc. In *that* context, the history of evolution on this planet supports the notion that "intelligence" isn't something that evolution naturally selects for in life forms that don't already have it. Thus, life (and even advanced life) may be common on all habitable planets... but "intelligent" life may be extremely rare or even nonexistent. Best, -Slashy -
Why does KSP need to be extremely expensive
GoSlash27 replied to Hans Kerman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thinkin' about it further, "extremely expensive" is a highly subjective phrase. $40 may be "extremely expensive" to some, and a pittance to others. Looking back on all the activities that I've engaged in that cost more than $40, yet provided less enjoyment and hours of personal growth and entertainment, KSP is a steal in comparison. And I can think of plenty of them that I still consider worth it and would happily pay for again. A trip to Kansas City to root for my home team in a playoff game. A trip to Hermann, MO to see a total eclipse, even just dinner and a movie with my favorite human. All cost more than $40 and provided less hours of enjoyment. All definitely worth it. Hell, I have easily 5 grand sunk in a sketchy old Vespa scooter that I've ridden for less hours than I've played KSP, and I'd do *that* again in a heartbeat. Probably the best investment I've ever made. I guess you just have to look back at how much you paid, how much you got out of it, and ask yourself if you would do it again. If the answer is yes, then it's not overprices. Best, -Slashy -
Why does KSP need to be extremely expensive
GoSlash27 replied to Hans Kerman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Are you kiddin' me?? This game teaches you rocket science!! The replay-ability and entertainment value are freebies. All this for a measly $40? I'll take that deal any day of the week. Best, -Slashy -
Do You BELIEVE there is life outside Earth?
GoSlash27 replied to juvilado's topic in Science & Spaceflight
All of this arguing back and forth about human behavior in the paleolithic is fascinating and all... but I fail to see the relevance. Best, -Slashy -
What @Kerbital said; go in the settings menu and change the keybinding to something you won't accidentally hit. Best, -Slashy

The most kerbal flat-earther I have yet to see
GoSlash27 replied to KSK's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Sorabh, I disagree. The antidote to silly ideas isn't silencing them, it's exposing them. They fall apart under cursory scrutiny, but attempting to bury them gives them a false air of validity. Best, -Slashy -
Do You BELIEVE there is life outside Earth?
GoSlash27 replied to juvilado's topic in Science & Spaceflight
magnemoe, We know what was going on for the 500 million years before hominids arrived; nothing. All of the higher- order animals have evolved to become stronger, faster, better- able to feed and reproduce... but they have never gotten *smarter*. If intelligence was a simple product of evolution (selected for), then there would be lots of intelligent species on this planet. Best, -Slashy -
Do You BELIEVE there is life outside Earth?
GoSlash27 replied to juvilado's topic in Science & Spaceflight
YNM, That's the thing about theories; there's always room for improvement. The fact that there are so few intelligent species on this planet despite all the biodiversity and time leads me to conclude that intelligence is simply not something that natural selection tends to select for. Thus... the higher apes and humans must've developed the hardware for intelligence as a byproduct of some other selection, and only after began to breed to select higher intelligence. If that's the case then it's reasonable to conclude that, while life may be abundant on other planets, intelligent life is liable to be a fluke just as it is here. Best, -Slashy -

COD, Sorry, but I have no opinion one way or the other WRT that proposal. Best, -Slashy -
More Female Defaults?
GoSlash27 replied to FoxtrotUniform's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I would say that the devs should stick to software engineering instead of social engineering. The first consideration should be what effect having 6 initial astronauts has on game play, not what effect it has on society. Moreover, I do not believe for even one second that any technically- minded females out there are going to allow something as trivial as gender distribution in a video game to influence their decision to pursue a career in STEM. This change would have zero social effect whatsoever. Best, -Slashy PS Thanks to @KerBlitz Kerman for motivating me to learn about stoma. -
Boeing might be able to beat SpaceX to Mars... Or they might not ever get to Mars. It's irresponsible for Muilenburg to make this claim because he's not in charge of the funding necessary to make it happen. Best, -Slashy

Equations for Gravity Assists?
GoSlash27 replied to Space Mailman's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well... The lower you get, the more it'll bend your trajectory. So long as you leave the SoI more prograde than you entered, you will add velocity. Best, -Slashy- 13 replies

Equations for Gravity Assists?
GoSlash27 replied to Space Mailman's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Nolen, Quick & dirty. I present it graphically because that's generally how I think mathematically. Ignore the bit about Ventry>= at the end; it's an erroneous conclusion. Best, -Slashy- 13 replies

Agreed. While my early career planes can cope with takeoffs (they have excellent rough field capability and low speed handling), I still don't land on the runway when I return. Moreover, there is no reason to have such a lumpy runway. At the very least, it should have a short, narrow, unlit section that is smooth. Best, -Slashy
