  1. A separate gameplay question - I made a bunch of F5 quicksaves along the way to Minimus, but the only way I know how to access it is by holding F9 to load the last quicksave. Is there a way to access the other, earlier quicksaves? Or is it literally just a "quick" save with only one slot available to reload from? I'd really like to go back in time and review to figure out how I got such a large velocity compared to the tutorial.
  2. So I've been following Scott Manley's terrific tutorial videos on youtube, and in episode six we've now flung Jebediah Kerman all the way out to Minimus. Somehow, I got there with 1000 m/s velocity (he got there with 224 m/s lol) and even with using up all of my fuel I couldn't slow down to enter orbit. Goodbye Jebediah... (sob) No way. I can't let him perish. So I used a few tips from Scott - first, I had been doing F5 quicksaves along the way. The last one was at periapsis with Minimus going 1000 m/s (lol), so that wasn't gonna be enough. But he also gave a tip about if you run out of fuel you can use the thrusters. But they weren't making puffs of smoke for me like they were doing for Scott. So I read the wiki and learned that the "R" key turns on the RV-105 Thrusters - I thought they were always working! Anyhow, the combination of using all my liquid fuel and most of my monopropellant from the thrusters (19.53 left out of 110) got me into orbit! YAY!!! I DID IT!!! I SAVED JEBEDIAH KERMAN!!!! Or did I? What do I do now? I will go back to Space Center, enlist another Kerman to go back to Minimus... and rescue Jebediah? Is this possible? I'm new to this game, having a lot of fun obv (thanks to these videos), but now I'm filled with questions. Is there a two-seater capsule (I'm in career mode)? Can I really put another ship in orbit and get the two ships close enough so Jebediah can fly to the other ship with his jetpack? I have solar panels on the capsule, so Jebediah will be okay even if it takes me a while to get back to him, right? I'm loving this career mode. Thumbs up. Tips appreciated. (not the monetary kind, you numbskulls!) My main question - can I transfer fuel somehow from ship to ship if I can get another ship to the planet?
  3. How do I changed "UNANSWERED" to "ANSWERED" for this thread?
  4. I do believe my navball is displayed, but perhaps I'm not understanding. Let me fire up my game so I'm not struggling to describe things. ----- Edit: I see the little arrow in the middle of the screen... and I was wrong, my navball was not displayed in the orbital screen. Solved! Thank you for help, I have a million more questions coming.
  5. I'm following Scott Manley's great tutorial series for KSP beginners (that would be me) and I think he is able to control his engine thrust (shift and control keys) from the orbital map screen, but when I play my own game, I can't control the engines from there, so I constantly have to hit the M key to adjust engines and then hit M key to see the map and see if I've under- or over-shot my target. It's frustrating to switch screens and pray I get the timing right. How do I control my engines with shift/control while looking at the map screen showing the apoapsis amd periapsis? The "X" key does work when I'm in the orbital map, so normally I just hit "X" like Scott said when my orbit looks good, however sometimes its moving too fast and I want to cut my thrust and slow how fast the orbit is changing, but this is where I can't adjust anything and have to switch screens.
  6. Yes I spent a lot of time frustrated tonight learning how to assemble rockets. The worst is when I go to click on one thing and mistakenly grab another piece, which then detaches, and I can't get it re-attached in the correct spot... usually it's with engines on those radial decouplers, they just don't want to "link up" very easily once you break the connection.
  7. I bought the game months ago and it just sat unplayed after my initial foray. Basically, I was lost (unsure what to do) and I'm not the most motivated person to dive in and figure out "the guts" of the program. A few days ago I was bored with the games I've been playing and discovered Scott Manley's KSP tutorial series on YouTube. All of the sudden, the game is interesting because Scott is explaining to me what I'm supposed to be doing as I play the game. That's exactly what I needed - you mentioned "SOI" which I assume stands for "sphere of influence"... well in one day Scott has already taken me to the Mun - I think it's in episode 4. So if you're stuck with figuring out how to do orbits and "transfer" between planets, I highly recommend watching them. Here's the first episode:
  8. Yes, that was the problem. I knew it was gonna be something pretty stupid of me. I dunno why the Spaceplane Hangar seemed normal, did they change this recently perhaps? I haven't played since December which basically explains my confusion... thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll be posting more questions, hopefully better ones!
  9. I just started a new career, and unfortunately the first thing I remember doing was clicking the "Load" button to see what the default rockets are. But all I found in there were planes. I loaded a few and then I proceeded on with my career. What this has done is set my green "Launch" button to always send my rockets to the runway instead of the launchpad. And I guess this also explains why all my rocket parts come in sideways (flipped 90 degrees) when I grab a new part. I always have to click the "W" key to rotate the part vertically before I do anything. The game thinks my rocket parts are plane parts, because I notice the plane parts were all flipped 90 degrees. Bottom line... how do I make the game understand that I'm building rockets, not planes? Thanks for the help.
