Air Superiority Fighter Competition Continued

Doesn't like lower-end cards. Not sure what the floor is for Nvidia cards though. Might still be enough for Shadowplay. -

By the way, for recording software, I recommend OBS Studio, which is awesome and free and has no watermark. -

I'd be more worried about Vampire Squirrel and PEGASys-D3 to be honest. Basilisk is inconsistent. Also, why did you delete the wheels on your VG instead of the I-beams? -

GPS. Actual locks are hard to get, but GPS launches based on distance. -

This actually has 2 less guns than TFD 2.1. Meet VulcanStar. -
I can't seem to get the Procedural Modular Missile Parts to show up in the parts list, but the Mk1 Missile Launch Tube is showing. What am I doing wrong? This is BDA 1.0.0 on KSP 1.3.1. nvm, never saw that Procedural Parts was a required mod.

For consistency with the KSC launch, I line the Island aircraft up to bearing 270 on the NavBall, then just let them go. Like I said, re-running after a reverted quicksave solves the problem; they turn in normally as they should after that point. -

I follow exbyde's method of aircraft placement on the ground, with #1 center rear, #2 in front of it and to the left, and #3 in the lead and to the right of #1. There's a bit more nuance in running the dogfight, since BD AI has a bit of a weird glitch with the pilot AIs. Aircraft launched from the Island Airfield might do some weird 'collision avoidance' maneuvers when launched, which really screws up the aircraft formation on approach. Assuming there was appropriate spacing and arrangement on the aircraft on the ground, all that needs to be done is a quick revert to the last quicksave (assuming you quicksaved when all aircraft were ready to launch), and then this time the aircraft should directly turn towards the enemy in proper formation. For aircraft start up, you'll need to stage to start the engines. However, some planes (like mine and goduranus's) will auto-start even without staging, when 'begin competition' is activated. This is because the AI pilot will turn on the SAS, so if you bind everything you want to start on a plane to the SAS action group (like engines and ECM), you won't need to worry about cycling through every plane and starting them up. Also I can't really recommend graphics settings since I don't know your rig, but I've got a pretty top-end setup and still most of my settings are turned down so that everything runs optimally. I can make a video since it might be more helpful with visuals. But if you want to have a go, you can do some test recordings and we'll point out anything we notice. There's OBS, which is pretty awesome and free. Also, does anyone know how to get BD Modular Missile Parts to show up in the parts menu? -

It's inconsistent. Haven't figured it out fully yet. -

Uh... sorta? It's terminal guidance, but it doesn't seem to work against the Squirrels. It never shows up on their RWR, so they don't really react to it. Earlier (around page 55), I suggested that if gun spam was eventually seen as a problem, the ideal limitation would be 1 Vulcan per ton of an aircraft's dry weight (fully unloaded of fuel, ammo, and missiles). However, currently we've kind of moved to a missile arms race, so we'll see how it plays out. -

BD Modular Missiles are still allowed, right? Since this has kind of gone from a fighter competition to a weapons competition... -

Unfortunately not. If there's a way to program the flight AI to turn on the RCS, maybe with a modular missile controller, I'm not sure. Haven't tried it. -

Actually sekrit I was testing using the RBS Cruise Missile as a routing device. Inspiration from ZLM's new, unreleased project (that I happened to come by on KerbalX). -

Meanwhile, I just mounted my MLRS on an underside hardpoint and never had to worry about Sidewinder suicides. Still, any solution is better than launching the MLRS backwards behind the aircraft. I was experimenting with multi-range drops, but I don't think I'm getting the intended behavior. Maybe more testing required. -

Nope. Weapons manager requires a lock to fire missiles, and it ripple fires it instead of a salvo. In this method, the Modular Missile locks through GPS, which is pretty much just programming it to 'fire at x range from target', and action groups just 'fire' the Sidewinders without locking. We've basically turned into Macross without the transforming-into-mecha part. -

You can thank every time I saw 'Rabid Squirrel Rover' for that design feature lol. -

I would say that last plane was flying because of losing all its wings; it'd be cork-screwing all around otherwise if it only lost one side. Also, neat. I spent almost every free minute I had for a whole week tuning that plane. -

Okay, so this next test is a bit of... an interesting one. It's my Gunbrick going up against @dundun92's Du-3, or as I like to term it, Du-3 vs hyper-Du-3. Sorta. The Gunbrick kinda flies like a brick; not really super agile. Anyways, due to the nature of these aircraft, and my obsessive pursuit for fairness, it was really hard to get fair fights because of the differences aircraft formation can make in results for this particular match up. So, you all get not 3, but 12 matches of Air Jousting Competition. The level of excitement is up to you to decide. As per usual, analysis at the end. Current leaderboard as of this post: 1 TFD mod A 2 Rabid Squirrel 3 PEGASys-D3 (to be continued) 4 Vampire Squirrel (to be continued) 5 Viper-ASP MkIIc 'temporary' 6 Gunbrick -

MLRS deployment, same as the kind you saw happening to the VS occasionally. It probably happens every 1 out of 3 battles, to 1 plane. So, roughly 10% chance of happening. -

@dundun92 apparently designed the Du-3 so that it would be his top creation, with the ability to cause other aircraft by him to commit seppuku when faced against it. @Mukita12 your F-16 doesn't have a Flight AI and a Weapon Manager, so it can't be tested.
