  1. Propellant-less drives are nothing new - solar sails, electrodynamic tether, etc. - drive that violates conservation of momentum on the other hand - is something... unexpected, to put it gently. Besides - whoever is still excited about that - should read this post before building more pointless hype: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79291-EmDrive?p=1325513&viewfull=1#post1325513
  2. It won't even leave our galactic arm, and you're wondering if it'll leave the galaxy. Hehehe, good joke. Reactionless drives won't make anything "easy" nor allow you to suddenly jump on interstellar bandwagon nor have a flying car. Reactionless drives are not an universal answer to everything. Never were. In a best case - they'll simply migrate problems. Instead of thinking about fuel mass - you'll wonder about mass of your energy generators (be it solar panels or anything else) and the drives themselves. You won't be able to achieve any "incredible speeds" if you won't be able to power your be-all-end-all drive. Again: energy. Only with Alcubierre drive it gets even more complicated than other types of proposed reactionless drives cause you need negative energy. Even if we assume that Alcubierre drive can be constructed (which still is a huge unknown) - it'll still require enormous amounts of energy to transport anything in reasonable size - in fact: such an enormous energies might be involved that Dyson Sphere build around our sun might not be enough to power it.
  3. We actually don't. Results described are not conclusive and it's still uncertain if it actually works or is it an error in measurements. Well, it'll take a while to get some reliable data justifying any attempts for practical use. And even then - it looks like a Solar Sail will be much more promising and practical technology....
  4. We already have a topic about that: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79291-EmDrive Including quite a nice analysis on a page 4 proving that there's nothing to be excited about.
  5. Yep. Totally agreed. Someone gave a suggestion for a "plant flag" missions to actually plant a flag of the company that ordered it. This would make more sense considering that it's a type of mission that constantly re-spawns.
  6. You know what would be nice? Sorting function in every window that contains long list of things. Not just tracking station itself. It's a PC game after all - we have mouses and know the concept of sorting just fine. But anyway: +1.
  7. Wait for 0.25. AFAIK they're working on an improvements for contracts in next big version, so hopefully - we'll see new types of contracts coming along.
  8. Hide dates posted. Perhaps then instead of focusing on whatever it's a necro or not - they'll focus on a meritum of the message posted.
  9. You'd be surprised. Wild animals (deers/boars/etc.) near towns tend to be so used to humans that often you can approach them close enough to hit with a sharp stick - so arrows, even made by someone with little knowledge but enough manual skill, would work just fine. Obviously it varies from place to place, but where I live - it wouldn't be a problem, at least for first few months. Making quality tools - yes. Making just tools - probably not. Perhaps not an average joe, but many people posses know tons of stuff that never came to the mind of people in a stone age. We probably would be able to create simple steam engines within few years after the disaster. Electricity - no to long after that. I doubt that getting back to the level of 18th century would take us longer than one generation. And progress after that would be by far quicker than ever before simply because a lot of knowledge would be passed down to the next generation, and we'd already know about things like bacteria, basics of electronics, elements and their uses, etc. A lot - and I mean: A LOT - would depend on who gets in power - but if lead wisely, promoting people with knowledge (instead of warriors), we could progress extremely rapidly. It'd vary very much depending on a location and how many people would die in a disaster. You must understand that modern human is by far more tolerant to living in a close neighbourhood with hundreds of other people than a stone-age humans were. Awareness of "nation" in a common people begun pretty much after French Revolution. These days we'd be by far more capable of building large society anew and creating a civilization than humans were centuries ago.
  10. Update time! Here's a full text: http://blogs.esa.int/rosetta/2014/07/31/catching-up-with-the-comets-coma/ - latest photograph of a comet below. Quick summary: Scientists speculate that the shape of comet nucleus might come from uneven sublimation, exposure to sun, and original shape of the nucleus. White "neck" is where most of the sublimation occurs. Small, dark spot in top part of the neck on a photograph is most likely a shadow. Also on a top of smaller lob there's a small depression that was observed early on. This, along with the origin of bright, white spots on a surface of the comet are still a subject of debate.
  11. It's not similar in any way. Other than both smelling as a total misunderstandings of what exactly is going on there.
  12. Say what? BTW: I posted a topic in science section with more info about the launch and a reply: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/88560-ATV-5-Launch-the-last-ATV-to-visit-ISS!-Live-transmission
  13. There is a mod for that If anyone would like to hear about the mod - they would post here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/forums/4-Add-ons
  14. I'd prefer this by far more than switchable flags on every element. It'd be cheaper, easier, and have much more potential for creativity. It could also be switched between the agency flag and contractor flag - two birds with one stone
  15. One of the latest ESA bulletins (the latest one?) got quite a lengthy write-up on Gaia.
  16. Oh yea, I hear about women on Shenzhou, though I didn't know about the moon part - last time I read anything about it journalist came out with a conclusion that it's uncertain if China will go beyond LEO with it's manned missions in a first place. I'm not much into Chinese space program - partially because info available in the Western media is nearly non-existent - but... yea, that will be a huge win for China. Good luck to them with that. It might be a true milestone in the history.
  17. oh ~_~ Well... any way - looks like my prediction about Chinese being the first guys to reach the moon in a 21 century might be right Or perhaps they'll be brave and send a first woman to the moon? Now that would be a huge blow in the self-esteem of USA.
  18. Depends on a hardware you have. It might cause hell of a lag for you - but for me it'll most likely be perfectly playable.
  19. Why would you need another ending? It's an open-ended campaign. It ends when you research everything, but you're free to keep on playing.
  20. So... you need to warp, stop, EVA out, EVA in, warp, stop, EVA out, EVA in.... no offence, but: that's idiotic. Why the heck would anyone install a mod that adds more clickfest to already clickfest-rich game?
  21. unless it gives you an option to automate process somehow (eg. give probe an order to drive 1km ahead without constant overseeing from player) - I don't see a point.
  22. This topic http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/86267-Science-Collection-Revamp - has a very similar idea, though notably better and more refined. It's already addressed in the topic I linked to above.
