  1. Beautiful Truly beautiful. It looks for me to be too large. It's a good 2:1 scale if not more (2.5:1?) Just compare the size of single capsule with the lander. But IMHO it doesn't matter. For a right looks it had to be upscaled, and it looks: truly magnificent Accomplishment worth even more praise as you done all in stock. It's one of the most awesome things I seen in KSP.
  2. o_O having fuel cheap and rockets expensive affects thrust to weight ratio? There must be some obscure logic behind it that I don't see. Prices of the items got nothing to deal with their properties in KSP.
  3. I usually build ships on an orbit, around my refueling station, and then send them to the mission. I'm not really a fan of space planes. In stock they're just a waste of time, and I don't care enough to install a modes dedicated to adding tons of airplane parts - huge mess with little benefit to the actual gameplay and on top of that: causes tons of issues with balance and long-term compatibility. Reusable rockets? Well, I got some rockets on an orbit that I use when needed, refueling done by a special, dedicated tanker rockets (they fly into the orbit, refuel the station and then fly back to burn in the atmosphere), but I never did anything alike grasshopper - it's tedious, time taking, and doesn't bring any benefit. Will I try it in 0.24? No, I won't. You still loose over 20% of your resources even if you land it right in a middle of launch pad, so I don't think I'll be bothered.
  4. BTW: I don't know if you noticed, but as expected: Prices of some of the items were changed. Here is what's shown on the video: FL-T200 now costs 225 and in 0.24 it'll cost 425 Command pod Mk1 price remained unchanged RT-10 Solid Fuel Booster now costs 450 - it will cost 275 LV-T30 Liquid Fuel Engine price remained unchanged Modular Girder Segment price remained unchanged Mk16 Parachute price remained unchanged Not too bad overall - looks like those who did some rough calculations based on a current version actually might have quite accurate numbers.
  5. Yes, same way as I understood it, did not think random missions was something who only will be added later until I read it here on forum. Its very common in games with random missions that you start with some fixed introduction missions and then switch to random ones. Procedural is not random. There are two separate terms. Random missions were never mentioned to be included in KSP. Procedural missions would never give you things like "establish a Jool colony before your first technology is unlocked" because they are procedural - algorithm can read where you have been and what you have done. We know about it for quite a while, hehe, you should have visited forum more often Where did you see any other currencies or any trades?
  6. Balance will be the biggest issue, especially with mods like B9 that got tons of parts. Suddenly "cheating with mods" will get a new meaning.
  7. ISS is a scientific station launched into space mostly with Space Race-era equipment. Commercial space station would be by far cheaper. Even for a sole reason that it won't have all the scientific equipment on it. Hm... last time I read about: ARM and low moon orbit flight were too very separate things (even solely by the altitude of planned flights). Nah, there's more than one private company seeking a moon landing - we're talking here about the US and by this: NASA. I know quite well about what the commercial sector is doing, but on a level of governments - NASA with each year is being pulled back and back while competitors like China (Chang'e program) and Russia (Luna-Glob) step in (actually: even Japan got some rough idea about that, though considering their budget and materials released I find it highly unlikely to come into fruition*). * yes, even comparing to Russian plans the JAXA moon base looks to be a highly unlikely one. Russia got something Japan doesn't: a strong political leader that's interested in space exploration. That combined with borderline-authoritarian model of the government where Putin is nearly a sole ruler in the country means that if he would want to have a lunar base - he would most likely get it, even if budget goes way over the board and technical capabilities are not there right now (just look at the last Putin toys: Crimea or Winter Olympics - Putin says, Putin gets.). Me either. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they'd go bankrupt before landing any human on a moon. Well, that would require swapping at least solar panels and radiators on ISS. Solar Array Wings alone were a cost of $600,000,000. And I'm quite certain that there will be plenty more to do - even more so as Russians might want to separate form ISS by that time and proceed OPSEK. Suddenly Skylab 2 starts to look like a good deal. Though I imagine ESA would want everyone to keep calm and keep the ISS or push for a direct successor as they have no interest in building a station on their own (ESA is focused more on robotic exploration), but would gladly hook up to someone else... though that's hard to predict as ESA management is always very silent about their plans up till they actually start to build something and sign the contracts.
  8. Of course there is a mod for it. If a guy would want to have a mod - he would post here. No no no.... it doesn't decrease anything. You just get less science in one go, and there's something remaining for a follow-up mission, but you never ever loose any science by sending probes. I like current system because it encourages you to send a follow-up manned missions - only problem is that reasons to send unmanned mission are very sparse and now where costs will actually be a factor - there will be even fewer of them as the best way to do science will be by doing as much as possible in one go - and that can be achieved only with manned missions. Yes, please. It's been suggested many times already, and next to telescopes - it's the thing we're missing most in KSP when it comes to scientific equipment. No, thanks. What I'd like to see is some equipment that can be used only on an unmanned probes. For example: Impactors (needs to have unmanned command module and data from the impact will be gathered by the nearest probe with line of sight) Or heliophysics probes (make entering low orbit around the sun deadly for Kerbals - this along with new sensor made to study the sun would really encourage people to send a dedicated unmanned solar exploration mission) Or perhaps some probes that need to perform a long term studies (eg. spend a year orbiting around Kerbin) - though I understand why many ppl might not be a fans of that. Or we might finally see some reasonable applications to the antennas and Communotron 16 won't have an infinite range? So we could actually build a communication satellites in KSP? Or perhaps give a penalty in reputation each time player sends a man in space, and then give it back with some bonus on top when he returns back. This could also include premiums for time spent EVA in space, on a planets, and total mission time. There really can be a lot of ideas....
  9. Really?! No biomes, no procedural missions, the closer we get to the release - the worse it looks >_> you make me afraid of checking forums just to find out something else got cut out from the release :/
  10. I think connecting fuel pipes between the ships would be reasonable and useful (refueling ships with no docking ports, it'd also add an option to include cheaper ports with no fuel connectors). Even if they'd have to add "pipe port" item or something alike. Strouts would be weird - they are not a ropes. More like: metal pipes. But yea - i'd really enjoy EVA being useful in space for something more than just EVA reports, moving kerbals between the ships and unfolding solar panels on dead ships (which noone does anyway thanks to reverts). (Ok, there's an infinite pushing too, but that's an exploit more than anything else) Will they implement something into the game? I have no clue. They might get it done in 0.24.5 just as well as they might never get around it. That's a problem with squad: even they don't know what will be in a next patch. lol
  11. I heard about both of them - and as far as I recall: these were nothing more than a random ideas thrown around by people linked to NASA / from NASA. As far as I'm aware - neither moon base nor deep space outpost entered any planning phase focused on an actual missions and realization of these ideas. Things like dates, budgets, planned launches, components, etc. are nowhere to be found and to make things worse: It looks like NASA already got some rough idea about SLS launches till 2032 with none of them being reserved for ISS replacement - which isn't particularly encouraging once you consider that ISS founding is safe only till 2024 and first SLS cargo launch is planned for 2026 (though IMHO: there's not a chance they'd retire ISS so early). Weren't day suppose to make an low orbital moon flight and then in a next mission: landing? After the NEA Mission (which is planned for 2021, 7 years from now)?
  12. I vote for blue. Or a shade of white. I always liked the looks of Uranus. Imagine Eve surface is covered with alien microbes.
  13. That's pretty much exactly how I imagine *good* procedural parts in KSP. And what does creativity have to deal with it? Procedural parts like these you described got 3 major roles: Make life easier in the editor (less time spent looking for parts, less time spent replacing them when mistake is made, more combinations available which otherwise would have to be "hacked around" repetitively, so: less tedious work) Lower parts count (some things right now need to be hacked around with multiple parts - procedural components solve that nicely increasing game performance) Lower maintenance time for SQUAD (=more time spent up front, but much less in a long term. Instead of 6 or more parts to keep up to date: you have just one (eg. "adapter" instead of "X-Y adapter" times the number of combinations) ) So.. in your mind world would be better if we'd discover the same things over and over again? Or in the case of KSP: Do the same hacks around missing parts / combinations over and over again?
  14. Ekhm... Duna is red. Ekhm... truth to be said: we don't even know if they have any concrete objectives. From what I read: It looks like they're jumping on whatever comes up. Be it asteroids, multiplayer, or whatever else they feel like doing next week.
  15. Which G-forces? Testing separation shocks is relatively simple and cheap, as they are not too high. You basically drop it from some pre-calculated height with additional bursts of compressed air in certain locations to simulate pyrotechnic explosion. Here's an info about these tests for BepiColombo with a movie showing one of the tests: http://sci.esa.int/bepicolombo/50683-simulation-of-spacecraft-launcher-separation-shock/ And here you can find some more in-depth description about separation shock testing: http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Science/The_shock_of_separation
  16. LKO: 4 HKO (inc. geostationary): 3 I keep stuff clean. Most of my ships are docked with main space station. I also have another station on highly elliptical orbit (Pe: 100km Ap: just below Mun SoI) filled with disposable probes (16) - was about to send them in all of the biomes on both moons, but I decided to wait for 0.24 instead and re-start the career.
  17. How's the perspective looking for a version that doesn't require toolbar & doesn't have an in-game menu? (I'm perfectly cool with editing .cfg, though actually: I like it as it is by default).
  18. Ekhm... You =/= everyone. also: your ship doesn't come close to some of the BS monsters I seen. ergo: deal with it.
  19. Jeez... you're really stubborn in ignoring high-school level physics and opting for a blind faith. As if a mix of two mystical elements: space and 3D print would be be-all end-all of technology. Here, learn something about your "liquid phase for quite some time" in 0g: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/gen06/gen06056.htm
  20. SLS is made to bring stuff to LEO just fine. Read this: http://archive.feedblitz.com/632435/~4093308 No imagination... none at all. Just use your mouth as an RCS thruster. Butt could work too, though it's Isp is much lower...
  21. Something-class Role For example: Flea-class Deorbiter (tiny ship for pulling debris from orbit) Arrow-class Aircraft (atmospheric aircraft with delta wings) And so on, and so on
  22. Nope, you did not read carefully and you still don't understand what's the problem: Additive manufacturing doesn't let you to control structure of a material with a precision down to the level of atoms. Mill head isn't helpful with that either. The reason why we are using many different techniques to manufacture just a single piece of high precision equipment is not because of "environment" - it's because they let us control structure to the point impossible to achieve by 3D printing. What we need is to develop molecular printing capable of repetitive manufacturing of items in macro scale with reliable precision. 3D printing is way too limited.
  23. Hiding? More like: We're too primitive to find them. (Notice that the further civilization develops - the less EM emissions it wastes by radiating it into space).
  24. I made a helpful post below the one you quoted. It's like I'd be saying that if I build my own laser at home - I'm able to build a laser cannon for the army. Read this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/85581-3D-print-real-spaceships-NASA?p=1259589&viewfull=1#post1259589 Carefully. And then you find that something else is needed.
