  1. http://www.upworthy.com/do-you-know-the-silly-reason-why-america-put-a-man-on-the-moon-do-you-know-why-we-stopped-going?c=gt1 The worst part is he's absolutely right.
  2. If you have the energy to 1. Create a black hole 2. get it to the center of said moon/planetoid, and 3.Build a structure strong enough to contain it, why not just use that energy to create your own planet (like the genesis project).
  3. That happens a lot when I have my headphones in. I'll be listening to a certain song and it'll sound like someone called my name. Ill take off my headphones and look around.
  4. This gave me an idea for a new part: The FL-4T-US Pulse Jet. Unfortunately, I don't know how to mod.
  5. http://io9.com/british-inventor-to-aim-the-worlds-largest-fart-machine-160951481 Oh my god, this man is a genius, of the scientific and comic varieties! EDIT:Making the butt:
  6. I've managed about 2.5km with this thing: If I use any more though, it explodes. Anyone do any better? EDIT:I of course mean sub-orbit. I know theres no way in hell you could make orbit that way.
  7. Not that one specifically. I'm talking about ones like this:https://what-if.xkcd.com/4/ I think Kerbin just gained a third moon: Mole
  8. https://what-if.xkcd.com/28/ This is one of my favorite entries. A lot of the questions are so Kerbal it's not even funny like "Could you get to space only using model rocket motors" or "Could you make a Machine Gun Jetpack." A lot of the question don't seem very Kerbal at the beginning, but the answers a lot of times are.
  9. One of my Kerbals, Danger Kerman (yes, Danger), was a stuntman for Kerboversal Studios specializing in vehicle based stunts (remember that scene in Karmageddon, where they jumped the rover on the asteroid. That was Danger). His ultimate goal is to set a vehicle jump record. Where better to do that than Minmus. B-) Also, I've just been informed that he has requested that his name be typed in Italics from now on. Sure thing Danger, Damn Narcissist.
  10. Personally, I don't think we'll be able to do much more than the cam/jeb figurine/radio setup on the first mission. But who knows how much we'll get on kickstarter. Perhaps a goal system can be implemented, the size of the sat and how much stuff is crammed inside depending on how much we can raise. Example: $XX,000: 1U cubesat with cam and transmitter $XXX,000:2 or 3U cubesat with cam, transmitter and additional experiments Just add that in the pitch.
  11. I have no doubt that even sending up a 1U cubesat into LEO with a radio and a camera would be exceedingly difficult, both technically and financially. But not impossible, given enough people donating (remember, most of JPL plays KSP). But what needs to happen first is people need to agree on a realistic mission goal (such as some permutation of the above example.)With a good pitch on kickstarter and an emotional hook, anything is possible. I think we need to work on said pitch.
  12. I think a small Kerbal figurine with a camera pointing at and some way to transmit still shots would suffice for a first mission.
  13. exactly! Thank you! "Like KSP? Well here's your chance to send Bill,Bob and Jeb into space for real!" We could even sell t-shirts with the guys under a pic of a cubesat with the slogan "Ship just got real"
  14. A lot cheaper than here:http://www.cubesatshop.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=66 Thats like $4000.
  15. My question is: Are the cubesat kits made to order by the company or do you have to put it together by yourself, like a kit built plane? If its the latter, who's going to be doing the actual construction.
  16. That's right up there with Danger Kerman. I send Danger on all my...safe missions...
  17. http://www.gizmag.com/kickstarter-university-michigan-cubesat-plasma-engine/28198/ Now this is interesting. Maybe we can help them out?
  18. I think getting a sat into LEO, while difficult to raise funds for, is doable. We just have to get creative as far as objectives once it's in orbit. I personally think we should try to come up with a cheap, compact way to to make reentry survivable. Something that can be scaled up. A miniature ballute, just as an example. Something that's never been tried before. More likely to peak nasa's interest and get them to give us a free ride.
  19. True, but IMO, if any project has the potential to go viral, I think it's this one.
  20. I see no reason why we can't raise the required funds through kickstarter or gofundme. A guy has raised $37,000 to make potato salad for pete's sake. http://eater.com/archives/2014/07/07/man-raises-thousands-of-dollars-to-make-potato-salad-1.php
  21. I voted for phobos, but with a twist. Buy two cubesats and link them together somehow, with the ability to decouple. Use one as an orbiter, one as an impactor. Equip the orbiter with a spectrometer and point it at the dust cloud formed by the impact of cubesat #1. Kind of like that mission to a comet that I can't recall the name of.
  22. They also have it for android
