Am I the only "Glass half full" guy around here?
Rufledt replied to MrZayas1's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My cup of liquid fuel is far more than half full, it's freaking overflowing! -
My key observation is that re-entry is a bit tougher, a usually successful design (i used to use FAR) flipped around and burned up the capsule on re-entry (Sorry val, at least you death was spectacular!)
-
I'd agree, parachutes are a bit strong, but really I think the game is pretty fantastic. It was fantastic before, now it's even more fantastic. Tough for me to complain with all the excitement!
-
I had a somewhat dissimilar experience- I used Valentina right away because it's a new game and she's the new character, but my first real orbit attempt flight she, well.... let's just say now i only have the original 3... Those new aerodynamics tricked me!

============================================ Greetings!! KSP 1.0 just hit and I couldn't wait to start making videos! Part 1: basic intro, some how to stuff, and then quite a bit of failure, but I did make it to space!!! getting back.... not so much, but still, space! I recorded more (like orbit and reentry) but will post those later once I have time to edit. I'm trying to keep vids on the shorter end (under 15 minutes) Behold! Stay tuned for more! and if you have suggestions i'd love to hear them. I'm only 2 weeks into making vids and i've gotten lots of help from people already. Keep it coming! Right off the bat I know the thumnail sucks, I don't know what i'm doing. I'm going to get some software to help (using free stuff now) any suggestions?

Ok i'll use impact, too. For the betterment of Kerbals everywhere
-
I'm HYPEing as hard as I can!
-
I can't hype hard enough!!
-
In the time it takes to write this I will have fallen 3 pages behind the hype-front
-
woo! made it to the end f the thread!!!

Thanks for all the help! I'm starting my planning now so I can hit the ground running when 1.0 releases in a couple days. My current idea is to do a career mode play through, but not like most of the other play-throughs I've seen. I'm planning on doing a bit less with instructional type stuff (since other people have that covered) and more of the short clips/text commentary kinds of things in that clip. I want to keep videos shorter than 15 minutes, focusing on fitting some excitement into each one, but without losing the greater story arc (like going to the Mun, then Duna, then a jool mission, etc...), instead of the long 30 minute type play throughs I usually see. Does that seem like a good idea? Obviously i'll lose some of the 'story' cutting out a lot of it, but i'm hoping they will at least be entertaining. How does that sound? I have a longer KSP vid on my channel (also elsewhere on this board: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/115941-Countdown-to-1-0-How-not-to-launch-a-rocket-in-0-90-0%21 ) which shows what I might do for individual launches, but it's not a career mode vid so it's still a bit different from what i'm thinking. This basically means i'll cut all the 'grindy' stuff out where i fly the same craft to all the different nearby biomes and cutting where i'm just waiting or burning but not doing anything particularly interesting, plus I'm coming up with some ways to use the text to add interest to the duller parts. Similar stuff seems to cut minecraft videos in length by 50-75%, maybe it could do something in that ballpark for KSP but without losing the entertainment aspect. Hopefully it all works, we'll see in a few days!

I don't think I have enough to contribute as a judge, but I do have a judging question. Is there something in place to prevent bias if the judge is also a nominee? Like, if i become a judge, would I not be allowed to voice an opinion on the 'best up and coming' channel because i'm in the running for that?

Thanks for the tips!!! I don't think Gnou was beeing too harsh, he said "Keep going!" not "YOU SUCK!!" I thought about recording audio separately, or maybe writing a scrips, but what i've been doing so far has been to just record and keep talking, and then adding to the commentary with text for comedy and stuff. I've been using this method for everything, not just KSP vids. I love danny's stuff but I doubt I could do the exact same style of videos and ever get as good as his. He set the bar too high! I'll mull it over and try some stuff. I'm definitely going to put something on my mic to make it friendly looking. So far i've been putting a balled up sock on it as like a wind breaker, a happy face would be FAR better! I'll see what I can do to improve future vids, subscribe to see how it goes maybe?? (my own personal shameless plug! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTQk1ZI9XgdfnqV3GRkbRsw )

Yeah staging is kindof a problem of mine, half the time I forget to check or I move stuff I don't realize. I made another vid on that just yesterday, but I must admit a couple of the fails in that vid are staged (not all, though). The first fail involves a 1st rocket design (as if in career mode) where the parachute and rocket get staged together and the thing flips. I've done that (more than once) but the vid part was staged, so I have done it just not that time lol. Im trying to improve the commentary, but I'm no actor. Like, not even close. My newer vids are also getting better audio/video as I learn to use the software/find better free software, too. Keep watching, I just might improve. Or I won't, IDK. I'm still hella uncomfortable with speaking into a mic, too lol

OO can I nominate myself for up-and-comer? I think I qualify, I have WAY less than 500 subscribers and I just started a week ago, so I'm definitely way new and way small. Here's a link to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTQk1ZI9XgdfnqV3GRkbRsw Channel is called "We Can Game if we Want To". "We" because I also do vids with my wife, mostly minecraft adventure maps with her but I'm going to try to get her to build rockets. Should be some explosive fun!

Countdown to 1.0, How not to launch a rocket in 0.90.0!
Rufledt replied to Rufledt's topic in KSP Fan Works
"gently fall' probably means I suck at commentary lol - - - Updated - - - ManuxKerb: I'm glad you liked it!! it was very fun to do (though a bit stressful to film!) I don't think I use a water mod. Do you mean like visual mods? My vid card is a bit crap (550 I think, years old) so i don't have any of those, but I did try to record/render in fairly hi-def (for 720p anyway). I mainly have parts mods and things like DRE, FAR, engineer, TAC life support. I have another much shorter KSP vid on my channel (I don't have a link at the moment) you should check it out if you liked this one! It's much shorter, the explosions are more concentrated! -
Hi Everybody, I wanted to make a lets play series with KSP for fun, but with 1.0 coming I decided to wait until then before starting a series. In the meantime, however, I can blow some stuff up! And I'm open as always to suggestions, I'm a vid making noob
-
if you think that's lame, you should see the stuff i DIDN'T upload!! The whole talking thing is where i feel the least comfortable. when things start happening I can't think enough to speak right (calling the VAB the control tower, or just sputtering incoherently) also I hate the sound of my voice. lots of issues. I dont' really want to go the silent movie route since I'm planning on doing longer videos than 1 minute, this was just a clip when I was trying to practice recording (get audio levels right, try to speak which I failed at, etc...). I wasn't even going to upload it but accidentally missile-ing the VAB and then nearly dying was too fun to delete. Building the rocket, on the other hand, took a few minutes and I may have said half a word and made a bunch of weird noises I didn't realize I was making... weird... Reexamination of the video shows the failure was staging related. Does anyone else get that thing when you use symmetry and the one you clicked doesn't follow the rest of the duplicates? It may have something to do with the mods, i'll probably try to do vanilla KSP for the videos just in case.

Hi everybody, My wife and I recently started doing videos since we already play video games, and i'm going to start doing some KSP! Probably not long videos as we lack free time. We just posted a short vid, more to follow so check back here occasionally! Let me know what you think, and any tips would be nice. I'm a noob at talking/editing and all of that, and I still haven't figured out how twitter works...

The new career mode is great, with things being unlockable, but I wish there was a pilot-scientist-engineer skill unlock dealy for science mode. Even hard difficulty in science mode has everyone start at 5 stars right away. This wasn't a thing that needed funds to unlock like the buildings, so I wonder why it's career only. At least the option to turn it on or off with a science mode save would be nice.
-
You mean every single time I do the first mission on a new KSP save? I ALWAYS pop the chutes the first time and revert to launch feeling like a noob.
-
I ran afoul of a really (un)fortunate glitch. On my super-modded game I had a really big complicated ship with 70km of deltaV. It is primarily ion powered, and to save funds in career mode I launched it with empty ion tanks, flew it to my Karbonite mine, took FOREVER to convert and fill the tanks, then put it back into orbit of Kerbin to attach a couple landers/satallites for a Jool mission. Just now I accepted a contract to return science data from the space around Kerbin. Easy money, I thought, since this ship was in orbit. I switched to the ship orbiting 1,000Km above kerbin, and it instead recovered the thing! So basically, I lost the craft, all the equipment, all that xenon that I converted and my 95% ready for Jool ship. One more lander and it was done. I could hit all the moons, drop a probe into the atmosphere, and regenerate more fuel from an onboard karbonite mine/refinery while in orbit. On the other hand, I just recovered 15+ million funds worth of xenon, and this ship did have some design problems I figured out before the mission started...

I say stuff like "Here, Jeb became the first Kerbal on Minmus. First words- 'Hey, I can jump REALLY high!'" Or "Here, Bob Kerman became first Kerbal on Duna. He immediately yelled "Suck it, Jeb!" but the reverberations in his helmet made his ears ring slightly."
