  1. What does it mean "construct a space station"? Spacecrafts can construct things now in KSP? Or do you mean to use the Interplanetary Launchpad mod? Have you completed that challenge yourself, or at least tried?
  2. Don't think, do it. Thinking is SO not kerbal-like.
  3. Impressive and pretty. I like your attitude as well as your ship's design. I myself have only used ion thrusters for satellites, and one test for an ion glider. You look like you enjoy doing it. Now, Tylo!
  4. For our second time to Minmus, the KSP is proud to have done such an ambitious mission : Details here : http://agifem.over-blog.com/2015/02/minmus-autobus.html More stories can be found before and after that one.
  5. We're proceeding our explorations of the kerbol system with several ambitious missions : To Mun ! http://agifem.over-blog.com/2015/01/mun-avec-elegance.html To Jool. http://agifem.over-blog.com/2015/01/flotte-de-jool.html The site is still updated daily, with new adventures, new catastrophes, and pretty pictures.
  6. I'm an engineer first, with a lil' bit of pilot. I too like to build complicated stuff and see how long it takes to explode. And as an engineer, I validate your flowchart, KerBlam.
  7. Confirming that i have this problem too. I can only create nodes for the next orbit. Only fix is to restart the game. It seems to be a new bug from 0.90. I'll have to try that.
  8. I have had some orbital probes disappear too, all over the kerbol system. It only happens rarely, and only one at a time, but it seems the kraken is able to eat anything left in a low orbit around a world. I get no warning message, no tragedy report, I just can't find the probe anymore. This had been bugging me since version 0.24, but it might be an older bug.
  9. Challenge completed! Getting to the asteroid was very delta-V hungry, but i shaved off a lot of thrusting by doing a gravity assist on Mun and lower my orbit's inclination back to coplanar with my station on the trip back. I'll post a longer story on my blog explaining everything. It was an interesting challenge, short but rather intense Is there a badge ?
  10. I'm afraid, above level 4-5, you'll only find SSTO spaceplanes. Their only cost is fuel, and they can land on the KSC more easily than rockets recovery stages. I doubt even ion gliders can compete. At lower difficulty levels, it can be interesting to see what is the best design, and yours looks really cheap.
  11. This challenge is interesting. I was planning to do exactly what you describe, ie catching a 'roid and docking it to my research station. I'm putting this challenge on my list, although probably after the Eve rocks challenge.
  12. I've started a new career from scratch, and instead of beelining for all the big rockets, I decided to log all my achievements and failures and make a story about it. This is the story, in both french and english languages. More details : http://agifem.over-blog.com/kerbal-space-program.html The story itself : http://agifem.over-blog.com/ (humble beginning : http://agifem.over-blog.com/2014/12/premier-jour-au-ksc.html) I try to stick to one post per day rather than the detailed day by day missions; this makes for more interesting reading, I hope. Feedback is welcome, either here or on the blog.
  13. Here is my submission for the challenge : Single stage, horizontal take off and landing, orbital, docking capable. It is called the "SpacePlane Mk1"; truly unoriginal. More details here : http://agifem.over-blog.com/defi-k-prize.html
  14. Eve is a trap: easy to get onto, hard to get out of. Its satellite is just an evil elusive asteroid. Its atmosphere is a poisonous gas that knows many methods to kill my kerbals. During the night, it's gloomy dark and I swear the probes I've sent there reported hearing ghastly moans! Finally, Duna isn't a purplish death trap of doom with a sneaky green dawn to lure you in. That being said, I've sent an orbital science station around each of these planets. I should have told the kerbals onboard that the return trip wasn't planned.
  15. Because maybe the brakes work. This is a science contract, it's about testing parts in various scenarios. It makes sense from that perspective. "See, Jebediah, I told you it wouldn't work!"
  16. I'm not sure mounting the wings low is a good idea. I think it's necessary your center of lift is aligned with your center of thrust. Also, your landing gear should not be leveled. The front part should be lower than the rear part, so that the plane points up a little as it rolls along the driveway. It gives the plane a natural incentive to take off without any pilot intervention.
  17. About the throttle : I'm lacking an explanation. Maybe a little more intake will help, but i think any small plane can fly with a single intake. Maybe you are reaching terminal velocity at takeoff (about 100 m/s at sea level), and your single small engine fails to fight the heavy mass of your plane. Someone more knowledgable might help. About the handling : Activate SAS, it's really not an option. If that's not enough, check your center of mass (CoM) and center of lift (CoL). They should be close to each other, with the CoM a little more to the front if you want the plane to be more stable at high speeds. About the brakes : Even if jet engines take a moment to start, holding the brakes has never been necessary for me. About Ferram : No idea what that mod does. Maybe that's the problem. I play with stocks.
  18. I was offered a contract to test the TT18-A Launch Stability Enhancer ... on Minmus. Beat that.
