  1. I call the game "Kerbal" 50% of the time, and spell out "KSP" the other 50%. I can't quite make up my mind.
  2. Just set down a miniature rover on Eve on my hard sandbox save. The entire transfer vehicle took two launches to assemble, the first one carried the lander shown in the pic, and the second was a large orange tank with a Skipper engine for the transfer. The transfer and capture couldn't have been any better, it had just enough fuel to transfer, orbit, and enter a shallow sub-orbital trajectory without any aerobraking. The fuel ran out when the periapsis was at ~1000m. During the descent, I ditched the orange tank, and tried to keep the lander pointed the right way, since it looked like it wanted to flip. The flames finally stopped, and I deployed the drogues, and the main chutes shortly after. The lander touched down at a nice 3.5 m/s. Then, I retracted the landing legs to bring the cargo bay to ground level, and opened the doors. I detached the rover, and it rolled right out. This is one of my greatest accomplishments so far, since I didn't revert/reload anything.

  5. I have absolutely no idea what I was doing that day. The Kerbal's posture and the messed up landing gears get me every time.
  6. I am really loving it! I can make things go fast! (And I mean fast!) Those two pictures were literally taken a split second apart. I managed to scare Jeb! On the serious side, it makes flying a whole lot more fun, and rocket launches are easier too. Squad did a great job!
  7. With the new preview showing off the air brakes, a neat concept popped up in my head; a way to control aerobraking without using any fuel! Basically, there will be four air brakes symmetrically attached around the craft. Two opposite brakes will be open, and the other two will be closed. When you enter the atmosphere and find yourself going too fast, you can open up two more brakes and further slow yourself down. But if you're going too slow and heading too far down, you can close the two open brakes and lessen the drag. Assigning the action groups might be tricky, but it could be very useful. I don't know if it's feasible or not, but I'm definitely going to try when 1.0 is released!
  8. What if you could drill Kerbals for resources? Probably not, since he said is was a really big easter egg, but I'm still going to try.
  9. Partnerships with real space agencies would work just fine. I love the new NASA parts, I'd love to see what else NASA, and maybe SpaceX could come up with. Also, how about the guy who develops SpaceEngine? It could lead to procedural terrain for existing planets, and entirely random new ones. It would be amazing, but it may not fit KSP that well. It would be perfect for an expansion pack, which would hopefully be free.
  10. I usually deploy rovers like this: The drop ship sits on the rocket sideways. The small fuel tanks are there to balance out the weight of the small engines. After the main stages are jettisoned, I roll the whole thing over, and proceed to land it. It's very slow to turn, but it rolls really quickly. This picture is an early design that was a test flight. Now, I have these on Eve, Duna, and Dres. I'm also planning to design an MK3 version.

  12. They have spherical helmets so that they can bounce from great heights. Obviously!
  13. I overheard two people arguing about how Earth stays in space. One said that the Earth's core is filled with helium, which keeps it suspended in space. The other said it stays suspended inside of the atmosphere, since it encases the entire planet. I sure hope these people weren't serious.
  14. I started an hard career mode, with no reverts, respawns, or quicksaves. I also installed FAR for the first time, so my piloting skills weren't 100%. (I'm not a heavy mod user, when I do install mods, they're purely visual, like clouds, particle effects, and other small things.) As I got further into the career, I was short on science, so I decided to do a Mun fly-by mission. I sent Mitbrett up in a rocket with two material bays onboard. I was trying to build cheap aerodynamic rockets, with light payloads. It turns out the material bays was heavier than I thought. Instead of heading to orbit, I decided to just fly the rocket straight up, after aligning the Mun correctly, since it was much easier, and the rocket can slice right through the atmosphere. I achieved the fly-by, gathering both in-space reports for materials bays. But after I left the Mun's SOI, it flung my ship into a wildly eccentric and inclined orbit. I didn't have patched conics at the time, so I had no idea that this would happen. Consequently, I didn't bring the extra fuel to correct this. At the apoapsis, I attempted a de-orbit burn, but I ran out of fuel. I was stuck in an orbit with a ~150km Pe, and a ~15000km Ap. I thought Mitbrett was done for, and I would have to rescue him in the far future. But I hatched a plan. I decided to time warp far into the future, hoping the Mun can fling my ship back to Kerbin. After many orbits, and a few Mun encounters that hardly had any effect, I finally got an encounter just 3km above the surface. The hills were whizzing by, and I was really nervous that I was going to crash. After I left the SOI, I was heading right back to Kerbin in a steep trajectory. I plunged into the atmosphere, and opened my parachutes. Luckily, I had landing legs on the rest of the craft, so the material bays were undamaged on landing. When I did touch down (at 18m/s), the whole ship bounced, and tipped over. An explosion occurred, but it only destroyed a battery. I was extremely relieved, and Mitbrett was declared a hero. Mitbrett is now "retired", enjoying a world tour! (Totally not performing visual surveys of the planet!)
