  1. I usually play two kinds of career: Low tech - Earning science only from crew reports and EVAs. Profits can be low, but rockets are cheap. I end up prioritizing the techs I unlock for the next missions. High Tech - Grinding reputation raising from tourism and rescues, I unlock all the techs and buildings before leaving the Mun with a lab base. I then end up building science and mining bases everywhere. My program focuses on re-usable, or multi-mission rockets.
  2. I think that a lot of players feel that the goal of career mode is to unlock the tech tree and buildings. This may be the reason that they feel there needs to be a better balance, that these things should be completed "late game". For me and others, these are just milestones for the development of my space program. I then play the game a bit like sandbox with trained rescued kerbals and funds. I think this is why it is hard for the community to agree on when the career game ends. All the game modes are open ended sandbox games with different features. The rewards unlocked in the tech tree do not allow higher paying contracts. Bigger high tech rockets are less profitable than a lower tech smaller rocket that can do the same mission. But sometimes it is fun to build a spaceplane that launches satellites
  3. I don't believe that completing the tech tree should require more than grinding through the moons. some people like grinding through moon bioms. Others won't. The reason to visit other planets is to complete contracts. I play career games almost exclusively now and have played both high and low tech games. I just never test parts. Additionally, I like to role play in career mode and the lab is important element.
  4. I use the lab to unlock the tech tree early, often before I go to Minmus. I do all my role playing in career and the lab plays a big part. i have bases which send back science for funds. With the use of multi-mission rockets and a mining operation, I need very little contracts later on. i just wish the planets had more bioms to make the bases as fun as the ones on Minmus and the Mun. The way I play, unlocking the tech tree early isn't cheating myself. It is when my game really starts.
  5. Sandbox mode was the only one available when I started and I played it a lot. I only played the career mods a little to try the releases as they evolved. Things are different for me now. I now play sandbox mode to try new designs or occasional missions. The saves are often deleted after. My longest games are career mode because I like having a history of development. The games end up being my longest games where I do all my role playing.
  6. I play KSP several times a week between other games and intrests. Fallout 4 and Xcom 2 occupied my time for a short while, but then back to KSP. I don't play as much as I used to a couple years ago, but I always go back.
  7. I agree. The hate was more evident back in July when this topic was started. There is still some venting, but the love is more evident now.
  8. My closest was a return from a moon of Jool, no fuel left - but I made it. Far more often I get out and push because I pushed the space bar when I wanted to fire my rocket to de-orbit.
  9. I just finished setting up a career mode game in preparation for 1.1. I unlocked all the buildings and science. I have a high reputation, just over 3 million funds, and the strategy that converts science to funds. All this was done just going to the Mun. Once 1.1 is available, I'll use this save to build a role play campaign that should last me a long time.
  10. This is the best evidence so far that water is exposed to the surface for very short periods of time. Each new proof is better than the last. I can't wait until they actually photograph water when it is flowing and publish: Evidence discovered of water on Mars.
  11. I use them all the time for this. I use the fairing then a decoupler before the next stage engine. My only grief is that the engine won't fire from the same action group as the fairing and decoupler. I use this a lot to have a mainsail engine attached to the large tanks.
  12. By that argument, people who could afford two more years of school have a higher IQ.
  13. Most aerospace work I do is for defense, but that isn't really fun. It's work. I play KSP because I am a space fan.
  14. I am a cheater. I use KER and KAC, but I never used MJ. After thousands of launches, I still enjoy flying my rockets into orbit.
  15. My favorite mods are: Kerbal Engineer Redux -Avoids leaving the app to calculate dela-v and TWR. Also gives useful information in neet display windows. Kerbal Alarm Clock -Useful for setting up transfer windows and running multiple missions. Welcome to the forums.
  16. This is a nice fun mod. I really like the parts and had a blast playing with it in sandbox. It should be a nice add for career as well. I would love to see more additions where players can earn money after creating infrastructure.
  17. I'm enjoying the new update, I hope they keep them coming. this is my favorite version of aero and reentry so far.
  18. I try a lot of mods, the only ones I leave on are: KER KAC RCS build tool Trajectories
  19. Thanks Squad for 1.0 I've been playing all week and loving the game. Prerelease, I played mostly science and sandbox. With the release I have been playing career mode and I am loving it. It is challenging and fun. I did fly some jets in sandbox and I have to admit that I enjoy the new aerodynamics much more than I thought I would.
