level 2 is landing gears, wheels need level 3.

You know you overbuilt your rocket when...
vicwarrior replied to Deadpangod3's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When you use the "flea" as a separatron because separatrons don't have enough power to push spent stages out of the way. -
Kerbals get no xp for doing things they've already done. So you can launch the same kerbal a thousand times to orbit and he will still stay at level 1. Or you can send a kerbal to peek out of the kerbin SOI to get a quick kerbol orbit, go back in, plant a flag in minimus, go to the mun and plant another flag, then return him to kerbin and he will be at level 3 in just one launch.

going with LFO engines is much better, since you can directly refuel every trip when picking up fuel at the surface, effectively making it self-sustainable, as well as infinitely cheaper (assuming you are playing career, xenon is expensive) and saves the headache that would be building a tug capable of fitting enough electric charge and ion engines to pull some fuel around.

Is Ore infinite?
vicwarrior replied to Commander Jebidiah's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
On asteroids its limited, but in planets and moons i don't know, but i would guess they are infinite. It seems like they set up a resource system to be expanded in the future with more resources added so that might change, but i think its unlikely. -

BILL IS SMILING! MAXIMUM ALERT! INITIATE ABORTION SEQUENCE! We are not going to space today! -
What's your refinery style: orbital or surface?
vicwarrior replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If you keep your refinery in your mining rig and probably shuttle to refuelling station it will be extra fuel to pull it up, but considering your rig literally makes fuel so it isn't really a big deal, it just means less effective fuel delivered to the station, but it has the pros that if you mess up with fuel cells and forgot to turn off the drills you and end up burning all your fuel for electric charge you will be able to make more instead of having to suffer the embarrasment of having to send another mining rig or a ship to refuel it so that you can send its ore in orbit. otherwise keeping your refinery in orbit allows you to be more efficient as long as you manage your mining operation closely to avoid screwing yourself over and allows you to keep ore ready to be refined in orbit for when the fuel tanks are full Another option is to do it the kerbal way and but refineries in both the orbital fuel depot and the mining rig. -
Sciency Help Wanted!
vicwarrior replied to PORK sushi's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Also remember to aim higher, don't stick to KSC or kerbin, get in orbit, go to the mun, go to minimus, eventually go interplanetary if you really want science. -
Many tourists asking to diving in the sun. Also some ridiculous ore mining and delivery missions.
-
people here are doing incredible stuff meanwhile im here, just happy that ive learnt to rescue kerbals in low kerbin orbit (as long as you dont mind the Km long EVA they have to do to get to the rescue probe) and have been fantasizing about setting up mining ops in the mun and minimus and perhaps get probes to Duna or Ike.

Ive also run into jeb while playing Elite: Dangerous , i found a disturbing lack of SRBs on his sidewinder and suicidal flying. Needless to say he was an obvious fake.
-
provided the second kerbal doesn't skip kerbin orbit by launching himself directly at the mun and back (which is extremely unlikely) they will both end up with the same amount of xp at return.
-
if you want to get max xp quickly ferry them into orbit, land them on the mun and have them plant flags (then tear them down if you want to keep it tidy), do the same in minimus, peek out of the kerbin SOI to get a kerbol orbit then go right back in and land them home for some quick level 3 kerbonauts.

What has been your most satisfying mission in 1.0 so far?
vicwarrior replied to r4pt0r's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I ve had KSP for a long time, but just about 74 hours on it according to steam. I remember the first time i landed on minimus and the mun the satisfaction was real! However i never actually got anything into the SOI of any other planet (however i think that is bound to change soon). Ive started back again at KSP when 1.0 rolled around and so far 2 missions stand out first, a rescue missions, after landing on the Mun valentina managed escape it and get into a kerbin orbit, began burning to lower the periapsis and go back home.... a puff of smoke comes out of the engine, no fuel left, an enormous bounty of science...... oh, and valentina stranded in space. I had never managed a rendezvous, or managed to dock anything before, usually for me if you ran out of fuel you were as good as dead. I decided to do try to do something i never did before, a rescue mission, i needed valentina to bring back home her science. The rescue was hard, i sent a probe with an empty cockpit, i thought my rescue probe was, as the rest of my crafts, overengenired, i was yet again underestimating my craft and overstimating my skills. I managed to set up a rendezvous, the orbit of both ships weren't the same but i went ahead and did it, switched to valentina, took the science, waited for the time to be right and took the jump. Valentina was in an EVA jump for well over 10 minutes before she got into the rescue probe. Looked at the fuel gauge, i thought i would have to send another rescue probe, anyways decided to try to lower my orbit as much as possible with whatever fuel i has left. Much to my surprise i had the shallowest of reentries when i ran out of fuel, but that was all that i needed, the science made it back to kerbin safely. The other thing was landing a massive outpost. I was just going trought contracts and took one to build an outpost on minimus that paid big bucks, i though it would be like the rest, needing space for 5 kerbals and some random parts. However this one was diferent, and i didn't notice until it was too late (i am too stubborn to not complete a contract once ive taken it), it wanted space for 12 kerbals and a mobile lab. You could guess from my previously mentioned mission that i won't be bothering to assemble anything so it had to be in a single launch. Also with my experience with landers i didn't to make it into a goddamn skyscraper so i ended up sticking a bunch of mk1 cans around the lab instead of stacking hitchikers containers on top of it. The final lander was stupidly ugly and huge, it had also needed a launcher according to its size which ended up with a hefty price tag. It felt amazing when it finally touched down and never fell over or had a fatal loss of control over it. -
Right now, the 3 originals and 2 randoms more are stuck on a science outpost on minimus, since the outpost isn't prepared to land back at kerbin (no parachutes, heat shields...) they are stuck there until i send them a rescue ship (which isn't going to be anytime soon). So effectively Valentina and some probes are running my entire space program. In the immidiate time, she is actually chilling in the break room, preparing to start rescuing kerbals stranded in orbit under strange circumstances (Buying recruits is expensive), training them, then shipping them off on another long term outpost on the mun.

If he was the real jeb he would have straped a bazillion boosters to a sidewinder.

When you could theoritically de-orbit minimus with your rocket.
