  1. Seems Legit. This is a nice idea. I don\'t think the space station module need be very large for producing oxygen, although perhaps a range, capably of different levels of O2 output? On a similar note, assuming the capsules do have CO2 scrubbers, the O2 requirement onboard won\'t need to be mega, so a small tank ought to last a week at least. PD
  2. Before it\'s locked.. a related question, how do people make the lander legs attach in the way which makes them like a collector on their ships? I\'m trying to design one and I\'m failing badly! PD
  3. Please lock this thread. I found the answer. For others sharing this issue. Read this thread: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=7775.0 tl:dr Don\'t use stages with only a decoupler in them, or the next stage is ignored.
  4. Am I the only seasoned player who has somehow overlooked the new controls? Apparently there must be a key to toggle the engines in the stage, as space-bar simply advances stages now? I\'ve worked out the toggle for the lander legs, but the in game tutorial says nothing about turning on a mid stage engine, and nor can I find anything here? Am I being an idiot? can you cure me of that please? PD
  5. That video is awesome! I am constantly inspired by the missions of other players here. Thanks guys. P.S. How good is your PC to be able to be so smooth whilst shooting a video?! PD
  6. ahh fair enough. I feel belittled now PD
  7. I don\'t know if this is a munar first, but I think I might be the first guy to land two ships on the mun in one mission? See this post for mission report! Mission Report link PD
  8. 2 words: Thank You: You did the experiment I never quite got around to!! PD
  9. Post-script: I did actually land safely, but I was landing on rockets without a parachute and was so scared of failure that I didn\'t take any screenshots. We miraculously landed on like a plateau near some mountains. Also, of course that Lunar lander pictured above I\'m unable to fly. If does honestly have fuel on-board, almost certainly enough to burn for a free return back to Kerbin, so I consider this mission a success on both counts. I hope you enjoyed the story, it\'s a bit childish but.. hey. What\'cha gonna do? Many thanks, PD //(sorry this didn\'t allow a post this long and I wanted to finish the story for you).
  10. EDIT: Commander: 'Ok guys Operation Fallen Eagle is the most important one yet. We have landed on the Mun many times, but this calls for precision in landing site and landing cargo. We have a man up there, with 24 hours till he dies in the shadow of a moon few will ever understand. Where there are no Kerbals and no sunshine to warm his dying day. So let us make this not his last sunset! Let us fly forth and rescue our fallen hero, and return him here to Kerbin where he belongs. Indeed, let us be bold and swift and...' Pilot: 'Uh boss, about being swift... can we light the fires yet?' Commander: 'Oh.. yes.. fire away!' On the pad, but not for long!! Commentator: 'We have... Liftoff!' What you see before you is the Mk 1 Munar rescue rocket, this baby carries two vessels capable of returning from the surface of the Mun. She has never been tested before, but in the capable hands of our Kerbanaughts, we expect her to bring home the famous Kerbal pilot currently stuck, on the far side of the Mun! From top to bottom we have the Command Module, fitted with fuel and engines capable of returning to Kerbin, she\'s mounted above a shroud, which hides the Munar Landing legs and Rescue vessel which is also capable of returning home, and will house two of the rescue crew and the Kerbal they\'re saving. Below that, we\'re talking pure fuel and engine, enough to carry these two vessels all the 11 million kilometres to the Mun\'s darkened surface. The flight plan has been released as a quick single orbit around Kerbin before shooting for the Mun. Once there, they will burn to slow down, and land right where the Commander lost his ship. This is precision on the finest scale and will push even these skilled pilots to the limit. Even worse, they have to land without crashing... twice!' Commander: 'Ok, easy does it boys. We\'re nearly with him, plenty of time in the bag. We\'re on T+ 10:08:27'. Commander: 'Easy does it, I have control. We\'re 2,000m from the surface.. or something. Spare third guy who hasn\'t spoken yet. You and him had better transfer to the Rescue module whilst I fly this bad boy.' Pilot: 'Hey it\'s kinda dark, will he be able to see the ground?' Other guy: 'That\'s what makes this fun!' Pilot 'I have no idea if we\'re in the right place, I brought the map for the VAB internal corridors instead of the Mun by accident' Commander: 'Ok, I\'ve landed ... mostly safely, we were done with that RCS tank anyway. Let\'s get this cheeky chappy home in time for the latest episode of \'It\'s Hardly Rocket Science\'!' Commander: 'I\'ll race-ya! Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaw!' Commentator: 'We\'re told that soon they will build something called a Tracking station, to make waiting for the return of our heroes less tense. For now though we must assume that everything has gone exactly as expected, and it is a failure. May our heroes rest in peace.' ... 'or.. of course... we might get one of them back. But probably not.' Commentator: 'Wait, I think I see something in the sky.. a huge fire-ball. Is it the sun? No... Is it our heroes? Probably not. It\'s debris!'
  11. Welcome to the KSP Forums! And what a way to get involved!! - Great and detailed guide! PD
  12. The only thing I can suggest is: Does your PC meet the system requirements? Mine doesn\'t, by quite a long way and I often get input lag. I wonder if you are suffering from your game thinking that each time you tap space you are holding it, for several inputs? I can\'t think of anything else. If you are building your rocket as above, then you do know 'how', so I suggest posting in the bugs section of the forum? PD
  13. I don\'t know if this counts really. But I achieved the following orbit on a ship without any RCS. This was all done with the stock part, gimballing engine as shown. Here\'s the spacecraft retro-burning home. PD
  14. Could I suggest some post merging by a moderator please? PD
  15. OK staging is just a complicated name for a 'next' button. Big rockets like the ones you are considering building have a bottom set of engines and (for the sake of argument) 1 more set above those. Each time you press space bar it turns on the next 'stage'. e.g. On the launch pad, you have a stage with your bottom engines and ruel tanks. These engines fire. Then, you want a stage to decouple (get rid of) all that dead weight when the engines are burn out. You need your decoupler in the Next stage above those engines. Then after that, you want to fire your top engines, so they need to be above the decoupler again. Here are a few photos to illustrate. In the VAB - Build your rocket and check the stage icons on the right are in the Order you want them. On the Pad - Notice here the stage number is that of your first active stage, and the stage readiness light (or whatever you want to call it) is green. Ready to launch. Press Spacebar... Liftoff - The stage number in this case only remains the same. You will notice icons turn green which are active. Note: You don\'t have to press space to advance to the next fuel tank, that is automatic. Stage 1 Burnout - Here you will notice that all six tanks in the first stage are emptied, but the stage number has not changed. Yet. Separation - Pressing space-bar, and my decoupler fires. You could merge this with the next stage, but I think it\'s pretty to watch the old stage drift away. Notice the stage number has now changed. Stage 2 Ignition - Space again and your second stage engine fires. The stage number has changed again. Orbit established - Once you\'re multi-stage rocket has gotten you into a nice circular orbit, you can do as you please. As this is an instructional flight, we will simply turn around and come home. Retro-burn - We\'re still in the same stage, although we\'re in a very different part of the mission. (A bit late) Capsule Separation - I forgot to release my capsule for a while, I was busy thinking about what to say in this tutorial. It\'s probably worth separating from your final stage before you enter the atmosphere if you don\'t want to burn up in later versions. Fortunately our flight plan has been a success so far, and we are landing pretty close to where we planned. Parachute flight before landing - Popping the chute is the final stage. Notice the stage number has changed for the last time and the Stage readiness indicator (or whatever) has gone off. There are no more stages to be ready to activate! Hooray! You just achieved orbit using a multi-stage rocket! I hope you found that demonstration flight useful and instructive. PD
