Veto Aerospace Leviathan Aircraft Carrier
TheMattyPrince replied to RedDwarfIV's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The way I found was best to stop the wobble, was to put fuel tanks or similar in as wedges, This at least stops them swinging down, The only problem is that the lift factor causes the winglets to want to rise :/ Thats why the modified deck parts I did have no lift. -
Veto Aerospace Leviathan Aircraft Carrier

I think that the compensation parts will only need to be on for the duration of the flight, after I am in the sea, it should be fine, although I may end up going in big circles :L The plane that I have on the ship in the above picture is actually a dive bomber, and I made it specifically for bombing a carrier, so I think I will be blowing it up soon The problem with hitting them though, is its damn hard to aim in this game :L Yeah, they dont like landing on a moving ship -

Nice! I love the design. You should see my current project, I will be taking a video of it soon. But for now, heres a picture. I love the differences in our designs though, gives me a lot to think about This craft though, I am trying to figure out a way to make a control tower similar to aircraft carriers IRL. Its also still too short for my liking -

If you pm me the .craft and list any mods I would be more than happy to take a look for you? -
Aircraft Carrier Softwhale
TheMattyPrince replied to RedDwarfIV's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I used the stock decoupler :L then I just add two struts on the wing tips of the plane down to the carrier -
Aircraft Carrier Softwhale

The safest way I have found for taking off is get the carrier up to speed, but decouple without the planes engines firing, pull up and fir engines once clear. I find this works best as all you really do is slow yourself down and let the carrier slide underneath you -
Inaugural Kerbal Air Race Championship

I think clipping through a slalom once or twice in a run is ok, but any more and I think its pushing it. -

Raw footage up

Dont worry about that, I will upload one without any music, I just threw some on to kinda break down the length of the video

added a new carrier.

Pan-Zad: " Kir Velikiy " Battlecruiser
TheMattyPrince replied to Spandaxe's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Its part of the railgun pack, shortly after releasing the first railguns, a update was released with smaller projectiles and sideways and rear facing railguns -

I would love a nice landing deck. Oh and guys, want a taste of this?

Its also on the spacecraft exchange as I said, under the name 'Aircraft Carrier' funnily enough http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=6430.0

You could always try it? Video it if it works and let me know, bacause, I dont think it will Anyhows, once we get persistance and can save ships when in the atmosphere, I will make this as two ships that co work together

Kaledonia's Guardians in the Sky!
TheMattyPrince replied to Asmosdeus's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
If you have the C7 flight pack, try adding one of the mini fuel tanks to the top of the free outer nodes, then run fuel lines to that, then to the engines, From the pictures I think this should work -
You wouldn\'t steer the boat I think. I believe it would just cause the smaller plane to yaw and change position on the boat or fall off, also, if you did this and it worked you would have to land almost perfectly aligned with the boat.

Since I seem to be in a bit of aircraft carrier making phase on KSP atm I will keep them all posted here for easy reference. The Zephyr The Zephyr is the first carrier I made and is rather primitive in design, more a proof of concept craft, it is named due to its ease of flight. The carrier will happily deploy an X-7 Gliding dogfighter to the battlefield. Video: The Hermes The Hermes is my first true aircraft carrier. With an adapted C7 winglet (permission given by C7 to release the part Thanks!) you can now create a functional flight deck that provides no lift. The Hermes truly will deliver pain to any hostiles with its ability to send X-7a\'s to terrorise the enemy. The X-7a is an adapted X-7 for use on aircraft carriers. The Hermes is very tail heavy, I find this helps with the stability in water, and I do mean VERY tail heavy so careful when flying. It is not very easy to fly and quite unbalanced. I am not changing this, because, well, its meant to be a boat not a plane Video: Raw video (if copyright causes problems due to country): Have fun with this guys Required packs: C7 experimental, hardpoint and spaceplane pack, KW challengers heavy struts, Tiberdyne auxilary C7 parts pack, HSTW amphibious landing gear, My Flight Deck C7 parts (download below) Those of you who wander the challenges section know what this is, but for all you other folks, yeah, you guessed it, I made an aircraft carrier. But not just a simple plane that can land in water and then another plane takes off from it, I made a carrier that is just balanced enough that you can land on it without doing damage*. Also, if you are flying and decouple in mid air it tends to fly on its own for up to 5 mins (seems to loop the loop for me) Please excuse the basic texture of the landing deck parts, I am no artist so I just put together something that I thought was relatively nice looking and resembling a landing deck *Well, if you are a good pilot that is

Inaugural Kerbal Air Race Championship
TheMattyPrince replied to JellyCubes's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
As white owl stated earlier, its all about energy manipulation, watch the videos him and me did of the default craft and try to follow a similar route around the track, or one that goes further out, then, when you make your own plane, do a similar route too, when you can do that competently, start trying to speed up and make tighter turns. Dont try to go fast, try to glide and only use thrust to maintain an optimum speed, which I personally think is around 60-65 m/s, any faster and you may miss turns and wont have much reaction time, any slower and you dont have enough thrust to turn enough or pull up. Also one bit of advice I have, is dont turn so your wings are perpendicular to the ground, when you are taking a corner go at an angle so you are slightly pulling up as well as turning (pulling up but not necissarily gaining altitude) Also, if you use a keyboard like me, tap the keys in the slaloms so you dont turn too harshly. Last thing, if you are turning sharply right and then quickly turn left, there is a high possibility of losing control, this is the main part where tapping comes in. Hope this helps -
I will be uploading it to the spacecraft exchange in the next few days, just need to get onto my desktop to get the file

Inaugural Kerbal Air Race Championship
TheMattyPrince replied to JellyCubes's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I like all my planes to be able to land, and actually, trying to do this course without the landing gear would cause it to be unstable as there is no counterbalance to the tail, and if I were to use tail pieces on the underside to counterbalance the craft would be too stable so would result in a slower time. So, yeah, a bit of personal preference, a bit of Centre of Gravity work. -
This made me lol. I tried shooting it with railguns, insanely difficult to aim, only hit it once in about 10 tries, each try with about 12 rounds each
-
Actually, I tried that, but I found that slipping in from the front and letting the carrier catch up to you is the best way, as this allows you to use the tail as a rail and stop you sliding off the back I know I didn\'t exactly do the above method in the video but, hey, I landed with no damage didn\'t I? :L
