  1. Well my week-ends drift away, this weekend i might have time on saturday, anyone of you guys up?
  2. You just need to use the rocket equation Normally you calculate with: Ve * LN(Mfull/Mdry) -> To calculate payload just add it to Mfull and Mdry => Ve * LN(Mfull+P/Mdry+P) = dV There you go
  3. You are right in terms of the first stage capi3101, but what is with stage 2 if there is one? I doubt that he created a one staged lifter with 5000+ dv? It's possible yeah, but i doubt that. If you assume that stage 2 has 150t less (with a basic TWR of 1,6) of the mass left and therefore approximately a thrust of ~3200kN. Then it might be different with the TWR, that results in approximately 1,03 which is quite low. So i won't say TWR is no limitation for that lifter Edit: My 50T lifter (well it might not be the best configuration) Mfull : 430250Kg dV: 5200m/s (with Payload set to 50Tonnes) s1 : 430t/302t | 8000kN | 1,9 TWR -> with payload 1,7 s2 : 262t/118t | 3200kN | 1,24 TWR -> with payload !1,04! s3 : 88,5t/16,5t | 2500kN | 2,88 TWR -> with payload 1,84 My limiting factor is stage 2, that definately needs a rework on thrust. But the 5200m/s are okay, and i can squeze out bit more by reducing thrust while in stage 1 and 3 Edit 2: okay Grotoiler, Isp is given in seconds just like on the ksp wiki parts page, i use the Ve with is given in m/s (Isp is Ve basically but not in terms of units ), you can read that by hovering over the isp values on the wiki Yes g0 is the gravity of the body you are taking off from Edit 3: If i didn't mess up and you use a 112,4t Payload you'll get a total dv of lousy 2493,8m/s So yeah TWR is not limiting in this case but you just don#t have enough fuel Equation parameters Ve : 3142m/s | Mfull : 460t | Mdry : 208t (fuel used 252t) With a payload of 50t you'll get at least 3123,9 m/s dV With a payload of 25t you'll get 3659m/s dV You see, without staging you lose way too much dV cause you transport a some 100t of b**** with you all the way up
  4. You could do this with the following equation (?Rocket equation?) : dV = Ve * LN((Mf+P)/(Md+P)) dV = you know that already Ve = basically Isp but with the g0 in it (Isp*g0) LN = Logarithm n Mf = Mass full (without payload) Md = Mass dry (without payload) P = Payload There you go, do this equation for every stage and sum it up to get your output dv and you see if you got enough power to lift it up EDIT: Important, also watch your TWR on adding a payload, it could happen you get a good dv and a TWR less than 1, so check that always
  5. Well i can only assume, but maybe you find those saves somewhere deep in your user directory. Roaming or Temp, but i can just assume. Never had that problem as i run it with admin permissions :/
  6. My 50 cents on that, it'll be like dwarf fortress, it'll be hard, it'll be just another way you need to think. And after all, Kerbals without Lifesystems will disappear. I took that step and was absoloutly frightened, but i did it and it was awesome, more funny and more intense BTW: Nice report, well done on that training flight
  7. Aye, I'll send you a message if i need it up. Will do the crafts in a local save and then copy them to the server
  8. I didn't manage to the stuff properly, thats why i have nothing sent to orbit on the server, the stuff i had to do this weekend took way more time than i expected :/
  9. Basically, i'd say, forgett it. I tried it myself and you just can't get the airresistance equation get to work without a knot in your head. That's why even in real world such things are estimated and from time to time acknowledged by tests. To get it "right" you should be physicist (does one write that like that XD?) or something like that to just understand whats going on! If you still wanna give it try (although it seems totally unnessesary for KSP) check out this linky -> http://exploration.grc.nasa.gov/education/rocket/dragco.html Nasa got all the things you need, described step by step. Maybe you get it done, i was to lazy to get all of it in my head
  10. Yes, i do know If that's all so "easy" the fleet could be up on saturday night, got quite a lot to do on saturday but well it would be your afternoon then XD
  11. Nice work on that beast Looks promising to lift some tonnes of payload to the most destinations !
  12. Wow That is the amount of fuel/power you have to change your velocity (Basically) For a moar detailed insight -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta-v
  13. This story really made my day Reading it on one side and meanwhile watching the todays spacewalk, great combination! Keep up your good work, although it's "newbie", it's interesting, and you did one of the best things with it, to share it while you are progressing BTW: Hope that mun mess cleans up soon
  14. So you want that thing off and back to where? Alternativly, try to build a crane that fitts to that docking port and lift it off, to rebalance you have multiple choices. One would be a very lengthy crane from the docking port side, the other, a crane that turns this thing by 90 degree and lifts it off. Be creative, with that docking port on it you basically can rescue it. Oh well, most simple solution, build a mini lander in the vab that fits on that docking port. It just needs a com module and you are also fully capable of controlling it
  15. Sadly i have to tell you that this vessel (if no docking ports on it) can only be rescued by clawing it or has to be left as debris :/
  16. Sad to hear that, i'll try to rack up my craft inventory and will finally put some of them onto the server so my terittory fills up. Then you guys have some additional things to show in your vids I think i might be able to do that this weekend, if thats not the case i'll post it here *still got to learn how hyperedit works* XD
  17. this thing is HUUUUUUGEEEEEE But whats it's purpose? My Super Heavy Lifter with a 500T Payload lift capacity is not that huge ?
  18. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Gigantor_XL_Solar_Array <- thats the gray line. I'm pretty sure thats a structural fuselage, langing gears and that Solar array are place with a lot caution and precision. Don't think that was a 5 minutes job And though this looks quite good, it has absolutely no function ^^ Edit: The gray line is not a beam its a solar array
  19. In this case... Announcment by WMC Material prices for consumable goods will rise due to the latest attack of Pirates. As a reaction to maintain stability across the Kerbol SOI and its inhabitants all Kerbals are adviced to reduce their needs. As long as the WMC is not supported and protected, we can not reduce prices again as we must rack up defenses to provide a stable and reliable support of needed goods. Therefore the weapon and ship materials will be produced with higher workforce and a cost reduce for protectors by 15%. All workers of WMC that have a A4998- Code are held to start working in the defense industry building to rack up the workforce in that sector. The changes will follow in Numbers: Consumable goods: +20% Costs Weaponry and Defense amterial: -15%(For protectors) Minerals: +-0% !Thank you for your attention! A last presonal statement of the Corps. president:"We do not tolerate piracy, we feel for the families that lost their loved ones in the recent attack and will therfore have an hour of silence tomorrow." End of Announcement
  20. Hi guys, anyone up with a new shedule? If i remember right we wanted to restart this month ? Is Saturday still set or are other days better? BTW: Sry for being "away" this long my dissertation is making me crazy
  21. At that point i didn't know he uses DRE, my advice was given for FAR only
  22. Well okay, i for my self try to stay lower than 70 m/s till 5 km - 7 km then lower than 200m/s till 15 km and then throttle it up to slowly increase speed and get most of the circularization done, my experience showed that it's not that ineffective to do so
  23. AFAIK there is no way to tell that, but otherwise i can't see why your ascend should be ineffective. Why don't you try with a TWR 1.5 ? The main reason for rockets to flip is that your AoA is to high, this can be coped by never leaving the prograde marker.
