What is wrong with this ship?
Th3F3aR replied to matt3526's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This looks like a typical Kerbal Fry Rocket, it's Fry day! Jokes aside, put the rockets in an angle or widen the skycrane, you are basically thrusting on your rover so you heat it up but dont get force to the ground as it is blocked by the rover. -
During Christmas time i got a lot o more time, the two weeks before christmas also. Btw, very nice intro Video and thanks for naming me in that I'll try to get online today, tomorrow and sunday. Got a lot of incomming stuff these days, caused by my dissertation i got to write :/
-
Anyone online this weekend on sunday? Got some problems now with saturday -.- I'll give you an advice, never ever move together with your girlfriend, she'll rip off your time and squash it with bull****
-
Hey guys, i sadly can not join you this weekend (again ) I hope this gets better the next times, otherwise i get really frustrated

How to choose probe cores?
Th3F3aR replied to lukeoftheaura's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I chose by design Aspects, simply because not every satellite should look like another (Based on what they are supposed to do). For a Communication Relay i use the Staputnik because i have a lot space to put on Antennas. Scanner Array Sats use a Okto, depending on how big the satellite gets i chose which type. For Rovers i use the smallest Probe COre to prevent a high point. -
Game or Spec? caus i can handle everything
-
Dres as storage would perfectly work for me
-
Awesome! Finally i can test the heavy carrier (Station) XD Maybe i have some time before my raid starts to get on the server and import my craftys.
-
For Kerbin the common TWR used is (as far as i know) 1 < TWR < 2.5
-
I could join you tomorrow on the planned schedule, but not from the start, i am able to hop in around 12am (18pm my time if im not messing timeznes up)

X-Axis swapped by Default? (Spaceplane)
Th3F3aR replied to Th3F3aR's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Sorry for the late response and the confusion i made by my W (up) sentence. The screenies are here when i push W the elevons go down by the way, that is as i knw it incorrect, and also according to your responses the wrong way Hope you find the error on my bad design ^^ -
I got an idea for that, oh it's gonna be a good reason for war
-
Well i can imagine to get up some traderstory or mining corp story which is more the supplyer and quite corrupt. As they are not the ones primary willing to battle but supporting the best payer they could be kind of a big impact on supply and ships. If that is something that fits into this i'd get my brain working on it

New to KSP & Trying to leave the atmosphere
Th3F3aR replied to ActuallyImad's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
My two cents to that subject, Try for your self how to get it done, tutorials for different rocketdesigns are helpfull but don't watch a guide that takes you to the orbit, you will fall in the habit to only watch guides and stop trying by your self. Get into KSP, be frustrated but be happy when you get it done! I would recommend starting off with a sandbox to learn a bit and build rockets without cashlimit. Thing i wanna give you for your way, don't kil jeb take parachutes with you and try to use liquid engines as mainengines and mount the boosters around it, boosters should always be a help to lift, not your 100% mainengine (my opinion). If you don't have (in career) radial separators, then you did it right, but maybee was missing the liquid engine for the last bits As most ppl said, to space -> straight up, to orbit -> Gravity turn at 10km-15km. That's all you should need to know for now, explore and get it done -
Thanks for the welcoming I'll try my best to manage my time to get the most out of it for this project Hello defiler, nice to have a neighbour that is not timezones away, when i racked up some stuff we might "fly" together
-
Wow, i've tried to read through all posts and i am overwhelmed, your project sound really cool, might there be a trader slot avail? I am GMT +1 so could be kinda difficult for me to participate in dodgefights :/

Hi there, i tried to design SSTOs and failed on circularization or even takeoff, somehow i don't manage to get an adequate dV or thrust for my planes. I started off with normal planes which are quite good working but now i thought about taking the next step for satellite deployment and shove it into a SSTO. The problem is that the ones i got up most times failed to circularize or the ones not able to take-off, yeah .... crash I assumed having not enough Thrust to lift but with 4 RAPIER Engines and 2 LV-N I think i got enough power to lift a 15 to 30 Ton plane. Therefore i checked my Elevons on the Mainwings and saw that on pressing W (up) they went up instead of down, which basically means they are inverted? Also plonking them at angled wings is a pain and i don't understand how to do this right. My wings are not angled, maybe thats the problem? My question is this correct or did i mount them wrong? Or is my Liftproblem caused by not enough control surfaces, i usually use wings and elevons with one or 2 main ruders on the end of the plane trying to keep the liftmarker slightly behind the mass. Might it be the fact that the Liftmarker sometimes is above the mass ? Thanks for intel. (Can not post a screenie, at work :/ )

Rosetta, Philae and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Th3F3aR replied to Vicomt's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I read that 67P smells like ...., so what to do now, abandon mission and get Rosetta back to a better smelling Comet? -
I need help making a delta v map.
Th3F3aR replied to Bluelogic32's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Glad you can get it done Well sort of assembled all that together, trying around in my excel sheet where i have all that stuff located now with descriptions. Mainly i got the info from a German page : http://www.bernd-leitenberger.de/grundlagen-der-raumfahrt.shtml Then i also scanned through this english page : http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/multistage.php and a lot of physics related pages too, as well as wiki (KSP wiki and Wikipedia) searches for those furmulas and finally the thread i'd opened my self some days ago : http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/95693-delta-v-to-space-im-getting-crazy All in all it was a lot of searching and scratching things together, and finally evaluating whats right and whats wrong by trial and compare. Maybe i'll have the time to do a explanationsheet someday -
I need help making a delta v map.
Th3F3aR replied to Bluelogic32's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Actually my bad :/ I forgott the Sqrt... sorry for the confusion, it's Sqrt(GM(1/o1-1/o2)) And another one too, the GM describes the "Gravitational Parameter" (i personally just say it is a Gravitational Constant as is doesn't change for the Planet ) resulting from (GravConst*PlanetMass) Maybe thats why your equation is wrong And in additation ! GM uses meter (somewhat like m³/s²) ! so if your using km you need to divide GM by 1000 ! -

Th3F3aR replied to Bluelogic32's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
@mhoram, nice maps @Bluelogic32 Basically yes, you should aim for a TWR that is 1 < TWR < 3 (some may say less than 2,5) If you are trying to create Lifters without payload you should always keep in mind the TWR change by the payload. The TWR of the stages is (most times) proportial because you stack the stages and therefore your stages get smaller in size and thrust which leads to the same TWR like the stage below An example of my 24T lifter, he got (without payload) TWR s1 3,88 / s2 3,90 / s3 3,88 / s4 6,53 (basically s3 and s4 are the same stage but in is in atmo one in vac so i splittet that a bit) -

Th3F3aR replied to Bluelogic32's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
a can be calculated using g*(TWR-1) You may ask, why no time in this equation? Short answer: As your mass reduces your TWR rises. Long answer: Due to use of fuel ur mass lowers, your TWR rises. Your TWR influences the acceleration and you have per stage a linear growing acceleration(i think it was linear). The funny thing on the calc is now, that you caused by that mass loss, should calculate your a per every second to get an accurate value of dragV. Thats basically why you just use a = g*(TWR-1). I personally calculate the a per stage to get more accurate values but if you want to imply a buffer you should stay with a0 from start TWR by the way if you don't know that is calculated Thrust/(massCraft*g) -
