Trying this. It definitely isn't reaching Mach 4, but it's still going fast. Once I get high enough the Nervs might help.
EDIT: "Oh my god IT'S ACTUALLY WOR--" *runs out of fuel*
Ok, it seems to be stable enough. On to the next problem: I can't land. It can't pitch up and it has a terrible glide speed or whatever the technical term is.
Yes
Unfortunately you can't see the center of drag in KSP. Also I'm kinda limited in design since this thing is meant to go at about Mach 4.5 in the atmosphere.
EDIT: Might remove the Nerv since I don't need it right now
This is the plane in question:
Center of lift is behind center of mass, even with fuel drained. Tests near the KSC seem fine. But the INSTANT I start to slow down from hypersonic speed it just flips out. Literally. It flips and stuff.
It's an SSTO. Flight path is climb at about a 45 degree angle, then start to flatten off at about 10km or higher to build speed, then burn at a 45 degree angle with my NERVs when the jet engines go out and hope that maybe this time I'll go to space
They're so much easier to find!
Alas, I didn't compensate for fuel imbalance and spun out of control. Luckily in this day and age you can quicksave while in the atmosphere
EDIT: Ok what is with the Kerbals? I could not get this thing to stop spinning out of control, so I just decided to bail, and Orlo was totally fine. Ok sure.
Ok, I know that this is an fairly old post, but I would just like to say that OH MY GOD THIS IS BROKEN. Also it works for pretty much any pointy thing, including nose cones.
If so, then that's great because I already have an ion probe there.
I think those are the normal asteroids. Dres has those too.
Considering they fixed the monoliths, they might have fixed all the easter eggs.
EDIT: The minmus monolith has also been fixed.
I'll just say that while I try to go to other planets, I mainly focus on Mun and Minmus because you have to wait forever for the planets to line up, and then you need to wait forever for the ship to get there, and then ideally wait for it to return. This is why I've been trying to make one-way missions: I get to skip 1/3 of the waiting.
1.1.3 just came out, and this is what I found in the anouncement: "...and and we even found time to hide something small in the game that we're sure a lot of long time fans will appreciate!"
What do you think it is? I definitely think it's some kind of easter egg; might even be the Magic Boulder
EDIT: Also, it looks like they fixed the Monoliths
EDIT 2: And made them bigger! Sorry I'm editing so much, I'm just excited
UPDATE: New magic boulders have been found. Whether or not the old one exists is yet to be known...
Nice ship!
I went to Dres!
My scanning probe had enough delta-V after stopping by Duna that I decided to send it to Dres as well. I think I'll leave it there.
Need to test this; I am using a tug to get this thing to Eve, even though it should have just enough delta-V on its own to get there. That should give me enough leftover to slow down
EDIT: Seems to work; now the problem is getting the heat shield off...
