  1. The .90 hard difficulty was close to perfect IMHO, even with some of the short comings. Almost everything I did was on the first half of the research tree, and the rewards for science and roots were just enough to keep going and build a reserve for some "fun" missions like constructing high orbit refuel station. Right now I don't think it's really enjoyable and the cost for new hires does not make any sense. I would say stay in sandbox at the moment. Edit: Sandbox gets boring, yes you can do whatever you want... But there is no reason and it's far too easy with unlimited funds and all parts available.
  2. It's not about which one is preferred, just want it to be realistic as possible. I think 1.0 felt close and I was really happy with it in general. I have no idea how they go about determining drag values but the process should be more than just changing numbers and seeing how it works. Hopefully they actually model it and use those results to get the part data. But I strongly suspect they do not.
  3. 1.0.2? Somebody tell me when they re-release 1.0. I like the one polished update every few months model, not the knee jerk reaction to yesterday's knee jerk update model. There's no point to even playing until they polish this. I think I'm just going to keep 1.0 and launch tanks into orbit until they figure this out. Haven't even had the chance to go 1.0.1 yet. Not worth trying to play career or do anything worthwhile in sandbox until they balance the game.
  4. All I can say is that the price of a Kerbal does not correlate with the price of spacecraft hardware. Seriously. If: F-1 adjusted for inflation cost $15-20 million per engine today Astronauts make $100,000 per year average, not including pay for spaceflight The S3 KS-25x4 has (4) F-1 equivalent engines (and costs 32,400 roots) Then: The "Mammoth" would cost $60-80 million per unit (engines only!) Each root is equivalent to $1,800-2,500 US Xacktar's next hire is a low one-time cost of $630-840 million And: Something is seriously wrong. Tell me that I did the math wrong by saying the Mammoth is equivalent to "one" F-1 and still prove this point. The cost for Kebral hires (per year) should be in the realm of 50-100 roots for my example and 200-400 if I've got it off by 4x. I don't understand how a Kerbal can be "bought" for a one-time fee. But let's say this is represents a 10-year contract. That puts the one-time cost somewhere between 500-1000 and 2000-4000 roots.
  5. I actually don't think fairings should be procedural either... imagine what you could do with a bunch of spare fairing sections!!!
  6. Procedural is not Kerbal. Kerbals design in a vacuum, test, and market completed products. It is a distinct method of construction and fundamental to Kerbals apparently. If you do procedural wings, why not procedural tanks? Why not procedural engines? Procedural rockets?? What KSP needs is a more refined wing selection. The new "Big-S" wings are awesome! Now just add some more like the wing selection we had in 0.90. Then if we are allowed to mention things we're not supposed to mention, it would be great for items like wings to be *cough* weldable *cough* (for part count considerations).
  7. In 0.90 the game always picks the "best" antenna to transmit your science and will continue to use that specific one for all future transmissions. The way around this is to right click the antenna you want to sacrifice and manually select "transmit data." But if use the science results screen to transmit, the game will go right back to the one it wants to use. I haven't spent much time playing with antennas in 1.0 yet so apologies if not 100% correct but it should be close. It used to bother me too but I just stopped caring. Usually have a primary and a backup antenna anyway for any unplanned ship disassembly. I just noticed your flag is your avatar, awesome! - - - Updated - - - You can edit the persistent file for stuff like this, just copy the section for a different antenna into the one that is locked should work.
  8. Have you transmitted science? I am willing to bet you have. Once you transmit science, your antenna will go into "locked" mode and you will not be able to extend it manually. The one that wont open for you was the one used to transmit.
  9. So many craft, so many Kerbal years! I signed up last year but never posted, always meant to. Now that 1.0 is out, I figured I could spare a minute to say good-bye to Beta! What better way than this postcard from the Mun? Greggun, Meldin, Chadcal, & Kelry checking in from Highlands Base, Mun. P.S.: Thanks Squad!
