  1. Talking about part alternatives... I prefer having all of them! My new ISS has APAS 1.25m as American CBM and 0.9375m APAS as a true Russian APAS. 0.625m one can be used for Gemini, for instance.

Ah, I remember the last time I tried to construct an ISS. It got to Expedition 3 before I quit. So, I had added everything up to Pirs, except Canadarm 2. I had to quit in late July because marching band got in the way of everything and consumed all my time. With new KSP updates, and a lack of time to play the game, the station fell into obselecense, until, finally, the save was lost in the switch to a newer patch.

Your station looks great! PMAs look a little long, but everything else is perfect. After I'm done with Mir, I think I want to try and finally complete an ISS build. Thanks for the inspiration!

How do you keep your station from going into uncontrollable oscillations whenever you spin it? Assemblies that big tend to require excessive struts, reaction wheels, and/or RCS to keep it stable.

  2. I flew a capability assessment flight of the Vampire, it flies wonderfully. I could zip through those tight passages in the mountains like nobody's buisness, and I was able to fly at treetop level for half of the distance between the mountains and KSP. I have yet to test the jet with BDArmory, so for now, my vampire fleet has no fangs. Once I add weapons though, I will put some tanks and SAMs on the Island and try and knock them out with this jet.

  3. Good call! Let's all just bask in Beale's loafy gloriousness!

Beale I wonder if you would consider making either some dedicated radiator panels or giving the Zarya-style monoprop tanks some radiator qualities? With the new heat system they might be a useful thing to have especially on NERVA ships. Not a priority obviously, just a 'would that ever happen' sort of thing.

Perhaps someone could write a config for the TKS monopropellant tanks to act as radiators in KSP Interstellar. It adds waste heat, so radiators are required.

  4. At least the 0.625 meter ports are still available for people who don't like the bigger ones.

I personally like what's going on with the 0.9375 meter docking ports. The idea of making them into a heavier, more primitive version of the regular docking ports sounds bad. Soyuz 7K-OK docking ports can easily be constructed with other parts. In fact, I have constructed them and posted pictures on this thread. And crossfeed can be disabled on docking ports anyway, so if someone wants that additional constraint, they can put it on themselves.

If anything, the 0.625 meter ports would be better suited for Soyuz 7K-OK, since it seems to be agreed that Kerbals would be unable to fit through a hole that small.

  5. Actually, space suits were worn just until parking orbit. Then they became just an impedment for system check and everything. During descent the crew had their suits donned up, but wore no helmet or gloves (again, an excessive impedment to the much needed mobility).

Plus, during Gemini missions the crew removed their suits when unnecessary. The original mission guidelines called for one of the crewmember to don his suit at all the time, but the guys up there recognised it ad an idiocy and completely disregarded it.

And the Soyuz 11 crew had no suits during reentry because they had no suits at all. Either they flew up three crewmember, or they flew up two with suits, because of weight limitations.

Did Gemini have room for astronauts to remove pressure suits? If it did, then why would NASA go through the trouble of making a special easy to wear inflatable suit for Gemini 7?

Why do we keep talking about pressure suits? What has happened to this thread?

  6. This tragedy occured during a reentry maneuver. During these times a pressure suit / helmet is expeditious.

    Snacks trump everything.

Almost certainly helmets are not worn during orbital operations.

Well, I have heard that Apollo crews would continue to wear their space suits until after Transposition and Docking. The surface crew would also wear them during descent to and ascent from the lunar surface.

  7. Why would a Kerbal be wearing their helmet when inside their pressurized spacecraft? THAT is immersion breaking.

Hey, astronauts and cosmonauts wear pressure suits inside spacecraft all the time.

A cool thing to note about pressure suits. For Gemini 7, NASA developed a special soft suit that would be more comfortable to wear and easier to work with than the standard ones. It had a zipper to easily remove the helmet part, and a regular crash helmet was worn underneath the suit.

Of course, cosmonauts don't care about ease of access in space, three of them can mange to squeeze inside a Soyuz DM with regular pressure suits.

  8. BOING - CH-47 Chinook Incoming & it"s a BEAST !

Well i going to build some smaller craft now :P with less parts counts :)

    OH-58 Kiowa perhaps?

It's great to see all these helicopters. I love the things, and it's even better because I live next to one of the largest Heliports in the world. US Army Blackhawks and Kiowa Warriors fly over my house every day!

Oh, maybe you could try and build the new Sikorsky Raider helicopter. That machine would be fun to fly in KSP!
