So i did some crazy stuff now to see how the pod reacts to heat. So placed MK1 pod on three tanks and two busters and just let it go up and up vertically got rid of busters and tanks when they were done. Came down vertically the pod survived without shield but it was a close call the G was wel in the red. Then I tried the same but this time while i was falling down i left the tanks...the pod couldn't hold this. Next test was again tank plus pod plus shield. No problem....however the pod was going so fast that one poor chute didn't have a chance. So it seems unless you are heavy and go to extreme like me the pods will just do fine without the shield...at least did the Mk1
-
Thank you! there should be manual that explains more in detail how to use some parts especially if some parts work in tandem.
-
Do we need to use heat shields on the pods? I mean shouldn't some heat protection be already in place on the pods so that we do not need to place an extra part?

Ok. I didi the wide band now and got some results regarding Kerbin. It says average 3.4% I believe and then there is this cutoff thing that I have noticed if I set it up to 100% the legend that indicates ores is all over the place and if i decrease it gets more precise. So i believe it shows where is highest concentration of ore? Gonna try and send the probe with narrow band to see what will happen.
-
I was thinking from description that they could also maybe provide other details from the planet. Like maybe some charts with terrain composition geography etc. Not only ores. Oh and is there any Ore on Mun? So i send one probe there to test these parts. I am now in sandbox just for learning new mechanics and parts. And what about this surface scanning module? Where that could come handy? Alo in the description of surface scanner it is mentioned that they improve the accuracy of orbital scanners. Anybody played with this one?
-
Hello there everybody. Does somebody here have exp. on how to use those two new added parts, those scanners? I have sent in Kerbin orbit Narrow band and it did do nothing. After launch I went to tracking station and there wasn't anything to show about Kerbin. I have accelerated time so the probe did couple of orbits for sure and probe was in polar orbit. Maybe I am using them wrong?

Tell us about the glitches that have happened to you!

This....I was testing one of my space plane prototype and while it was reentering the atmosphere the tip of the left delta wing broke off...I crashed the entire vehichle to see in report that on reentery I crashed on the launch pad and that destroyed my wing -
Which and how many intakes to use?
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well how to make sure they are attached? there are not contact points...the parts do not turn green despite I put the really close together so I don't see any kind of indication are they connected or not. -
Which and how many intakes to use?
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Thnx guys got some good all Mk2 parts space plane up and running then I went on Mk3 parts and yeah I have some questions about it. Now I don't know ho much problems is visible on this pic but I will try to explain it. The very tip of the wings and part of the structure it bends and it kind od seems that it detaches from the rest of the wing but not completely. Sometimes you can see when the tip flexes like that much you can see air through. Do I use these parts in wrong way not properly connected or the wing is too heavy and it needs some support if the later is case what I can do about it? -
Which and how many intakes to use?
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
So by reading this I have also realized that I am not very good in flying space planes efficiently. could anybody explain me how do I fly them properly? Oh and one more question. In stock game I struggle to build the wing that I have in my mind. I am just not good enough in using the parts. I see on forum a lot nice wing design but when I try something is just cant find a way on how to use the aviable parts to get the wing from my mind in KSP. -
Hey there! So finally made my mind to try and build some nice space plane. So far I am able to make some nice plane which is not able to get into orbit for several reasons. One of them is I run out of intake air around 20-26km. I am using turbojets and I cant figure it out which intake is best and how many of those are needed for a turbojet to make it work for longer time. Also I have heard about those RAPIERs. Should I use them instead of those turbojets?

I hope that they will do some changes regarding transmission simulation It would add more fun to it and challenge
-
So there is not much big difference between the antennas except their speed. I was thinking that for example there is some limitation of transmit from very far away planets but it seems there is no such thing. It would be interesting that they make like some limitations. For example add some interferences and other limitations in transfers so when you are maybe sending some probe far away and plan to transmit science you might be forced to use bigger antennas that are for that kind of job instead the small ones that could be weak and could hinder your transmitted data so for example you get a message from KSP that data got corrupted and lose some science points since you did that with some low tier antenna. What you guys think about this? I think it would be great and add also another level in design phase and mission conduct.
-
I am just wondering about the antennas for transmission. So it seems that we have 3 types? each with greater upload speed and higher energy consumption. Now except the speed of transfer is there any good reason why I should put huge dish antenna that drinks energy like there is unlimited amount of it??? Maybe with small antenna transferring something from very distant planet is very hard or nearly impossible or something like that?

I am afraid that I am not able to provide you with a .craft file since I have modified the vessel heavily for manned missions. I do not think that there was a flaw in my design since there were at least 8 panels supplying SAS, Science Jr., 2 Goos, and some other small sensors there was no transmission at any time. Only that thing that was ON all the time was SAS on trip towards Minimus and back but on this way to Kerbin for some reason the panels did not charge the battery of 1000 units not even when I came near Kerbin and directly exposed to Sun. Only after I started to burn the panels provided MASSIVE amount of charge and that kind of charge was expected out of those 8 panels.
-
I think is what happened the SAS drained my batteries and once panels got exposed they didn't charge and if I recall correctly there were reading direct exposure to light but only started to work once I started to burn in atmosphere. Also for your information guys I have turned the symmetry mode to max. value while I was placing my 1x1 panels so yes there were plenty of them....
-
Hello, n So this is what happened to me recently. I am now in program for Minimus and as this is the first time I am going there I have sent an unmanned lander which will be later maned this is only to test it. Anyway got there to Minimus and on my way home the lander lost electrical charge completely despite having lots of 1x1 solar panels. It was drained thanks to the SAS but this shouldn't happen since I had many panels.....Anyway as I got closer to Kerbin (still I had attached lander legs with engine and tank which need to be ejected plus parachutes that cant be deployed, strange that there is no aux.system of deployment) I have noticed that panels are at least to my eyes exposed to the Sun but no charge! So I got a bit sad over a fact that mission will fail and that I will lose all my science collected but then suddenly while my lander was burning through atmosphere the batteries started to charge so I managed to get rid of last stage and activate parachutes. So my question is if I have a probe in space that for some reason loses charge and despite that after losing charge panels gets exposed to Sun they won't charge or they will start charging even if charge is 0?

Stations or two way tickets?
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Can our STOCK KErbals when they are on EVA move for example a small battery pack from one place of a ship to another? Can they interact with some parts in that way? -

I like this design...I also have in mind to build some kind of station that can move... -
Stations or two way tickets?
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Now I am doing that because I have JUST NOW unlocked the docking ports. Before that I didn't have that so the only way was to land with all that. -
Stations or two way tickets?
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I used smaller engine but on my second landing I found out that if I land somewhere where the ground is bit elevated I was not able to reduce speed fast enough (this killed the original trio of Kerbs) so I went back at the drawing board to try and fit Poddle engine to have that more safety and margin error. At that time I didn't have docking ports so I was landing with lab too so it was very difficult especially for me(tall lander, heavy lander) since these were my first landings on other planet. -

Now that is a rocket . Yes that is what I do send a lab as a core and a lander that goes down and up then I move science to lab a clean the instruments and then I get back down. -
Hello, First I would like to thank you all that have participated in my thread (ttp://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/103035-The-purpose-of-the-space-planes) that unfortunately got closed before I was able to thank you. I didn't really expect 5 pages for that simple question, I guess this is due to the great community. Anyway lets get on my next question. So I wanted to see what Pro.Players here think on gathering biomes from another planets. In my case first I did 2 landings on Mun with command pod, mobile lab and all science instruments. Was very hard since I did this as soon as I unlocked laboratory. I had issues on how to put Poddle engine and support this with basic leg set which barely managed to touch ground first so my engine doesn't get damaged ( I had to lock suspensions to keep the engine off the ground) the margin for error was small but how much science I would gain was a good reward. This made me think on placing a station with a Mobile lab as core and storage for collected samples and light lander that will go up and down and refuel at station as necessary. When I sample all the Mun I will decouple tanks, lander and other stuff and just return with my 3 Kerbs, command pod and lab. Anyway I needed excuse to learn docking since I know I will need that skill sooner or later. So guys what you think? Should I place stations around every planet and when we get the update with biomes on every planet I just start descending and gathering all science or do those two way mission launch, land get back, repeat until you exhausted all biomes on a planet? Lets see what you think about it? Keep in mind that I am talking about stock game I do not intend to mode it yet. I like it they way it is for now.

The purpose of the space planes
seaces replied to seaces's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Ok so I got that that from economical standpoint space plane I better at it becosue it is reusable. But since I am in this science only mode (went for this one since I just want to explore and do some science) I wonder are space planes limited much on what they can load as they cargo? I also like how they look but you know if the Space plane will only let me load some satellite that I could put in orbit with very simple rocket and rocket will take me less time to build....Anyway I might build them once I unlock all parts and maybe build some station around Kerbin with fuel supply and keep there parked my space planes that are easily moved from station to any other planet with required scientific equipment. BTW is it true that only Kerbin, Mun and MInimus have biomes? No biomes on other planet so no science points from going far away? Is there any mod that will add biomes and science points for other planets so that I have some nice incentive for bringing my equipment there? -
Hello everybody I am new to KSP and I have a question regarding the space planes. Could somebody tell me a couple of good reasons why should I want to build space plane and use it? I am sorry if this was answered before but I just can't see any puprose of it since I can do everyting with rockets. Curently I am playing Science only career and I am build Mun station just after I have unlocked docking ports. I want to use station with lab module to explore Mun the fastest possible way with least trip and visit and explore it as much as I can before proceding to Minimus. So I have there a light lander with all experiments so I go land every tiem on different biome do experiment get back, dock it move experiments to Lab refuel do it again. If I need extra fuel I can easily send it from Kerbin. So, give me a godd reason for using a space plane that is 1) dificult to build and balance it taking in account fuel movement, 2)I need 2 type of engins one for atmosphere run and another rocket engien for space activity 3) jet engines have their own fuel tanks and gear required to operate so extra weight and extra complications. Sorry I just can't see why should I build them and use them
