  1. Nope. Consider the before and after. Is anything moving with respect to anything else? If not, you have not given anything a NET impulse. It doesn't matter what part of the spacecraft the astronaut touches - whether the back wall, the side wall, or hanging from a rope from the front. The moment she goes back to the same speed as the spacecraft nothing has really changed except the internal distribution of mass. The only way to get a NET impulse is to eject something from the system.
  2. I almost suspect that a thorough appraisal of the site's condition might have caused it to be condemned even before the first cable failed. Replacing all the degraded parts would have been a major undertaking, and if the safety factors aren't there for the work then that's the end right there, even before thinking of things like budget.
  3. Dragon 2 masses about 15.6t with full payload, which is about Falcon 9's max payload with recovery (and max payload full stop until someone pays to upgrade the PAF). Dragon 1 massed about 10.2t, so there's a pretty huge difference.
  4. Cargo Dragon 2 looks weird without Superdracos! Still has the porthole that isn't a porthole though, lol.
  5. It requires megawatts of power for the radar function. Supplying that on the moon would be challenging. I hope they rebuild it on the same site.
  6. Possibly a working cargo bay? He did say mid-teens for orbital flight. And if you're going orbital you might as well be putting up real payloads, even if they're just Starlinks.
  7. And now it's actually stacked! Hopefully not too much of a delay if SN8 goes splat then.
  8. There's still argument over whether Nov is a no-later-than date or whether it's going to slip even further. As for why Boeing/NASA is incapable of moving fast, I'd suggest an overabundance of caution and no financial incentive to go faster.
  9. Static fire! Very short, no detanking yet. I'm wondering if we might see a relight... Edit: depress. No immediate relight. Very short depress, though...
  10. Interesting tanker comments: Also Boca is gearing up for a static fire. 5h window:
  11. Unfortunately although FAST is superior in many regards, it isn't capable of radar astronomy (has no transmitters). Its range of observable frequencies are smaller as well.
  12. I'm not sure the radar astronomy function can be easily duplicated by an inferometry array. Might be worth rebuilding it to a modern spec.
  13. Actually it looks like it wandered! That's not where it touched down!
  14. After two recent cable failures the observatory is now deemed structurally unsafe and is to be demolished. A sad day. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arecibo_Observatory
  15. Among other things Lunaship is now being outfitted with an interior mockup:
