  1. Little bit more work on the launch mount: Edit: new hydraulic rams for thrust simulation? Took me a while to work out what was going on in this picture!
  2. What is the limitation on the eastern range? Is it technical? Logistical? Unable to close sea and airspace for significant periods? If rockets can become truly reliable, is it even necessary to have large exclusion zones? Is overflight of shipping and sharing airspace with airliners really that big a deal?
  3. These are all darksats, right? Except one visorsat.
  4. Apparently this dome is a mystery: Super-close-up of DM-2 booster!
  5. https://www.space.com/spacex-crew-dragon-tremor-dinosaur-doll.html?fbclid=IwAR1li3NgwCiOmp0V-zWSiw2FepsmIa_orYTyrUHDIiv9vmgQAu7zq9bOx3Y The sparkly dinosaur is called Tremor, and he belongs to one of Doug and Bob's sons!
  6. I'm not entirely clear on this, but 9.5t dry plus cargo and propellant seems to add up to about F9's ASDS recovery limit, so I'm sticking with it for now.
  7. At 100% throttle that's 12t capsule (9.5dry, 2.5t propellant) plus 8.8t second stage (4.5t dry, 4.3t residual propellant).
  8. I'll just add that camber isn't aerofoil thickness, it's aerofoil asymmetry. An aerofoil with zero camber gives zero lift at zero angle of attack. But a wing with camber can generate lift at zero angle of attack. This is important, because if the whole plane flies with an angle of attack then the body will be producing lift as well, and body lift is very draggy. You want to minimise the angle attack of the plane body. But sometimes you do want to fly with high angle of attack - e.g. on landing. Adding additional camber with flaps can make the wing more resistant to stalling at high angle of attacks.
  9. Capsule was only 2/3rds max lift-off weight. Loads of margin.
  10. Yup. The dracos have better ISP. They share the same propellant tanks.
  11. So cute! It's flying with basically zero cargo on this flight. It can take up to 6 tonnes additional to the 12 tonne capsule wet mass.
  12. Dragon really does look very like the Pheonix!
