  1. I do wonder if my build is complete. I did have some oxidizer doing nothing and my flight path was kinda terrible. It's not a hard plane to fly but fuel management is a thing. I saw the other submission that someone did and would love to know the mechanism that they used. I'm completely unaware of how they built their sweeping mechanism and would love to know.
  2. Here is my attempt. It's callled the Origami Dagger II. It's an stock SSTO that fits in the mk3 cargo bay. I used Kerbal Engineer Redux and Mechjeb to just help out with testing. For the actual flight, no mods were used. The wings operate off of stock hinges that I had to (painfully) align docking ports so that the wings could pivot out. I do have a bit of part clipping but that is for asthetics. I think that it is posible to build larger versons with bigger wings. The prototype of this craft had a break in the hull where the hinges were placed Anyways, This was a fun challenge. I wanted to at least get to orbit. This is actually the first time I have done a tilt-wing plane ever and I think it turned out great. If any one wants the craft file the link is below. If anyone wants to rip apart the craft for the joint I am fine with that (It's all built off of 1 docking port. I just would like the credit for the design. I would love to see a 2.5M plane or a SSTO that is capible of going futher out in the kerbin system. The only important controll is the 0 action group. If you press it, the wings will release and allow for them to deploy. They seem to dock easily and I havn't had a problem with a wing falling off yet. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1v4OxSX76jbekNZWlFCU1VfRmc/view?usp=sharing https://imgur.com/a/2c42Y
  3. By saying it fits in a mark 3 Cargo bay, does that mean that it's length is limited to just 1 cargo bay? Because I can go to duna or laythe If the length is not limited
  4. Low Altitude Speed Challenge with Categories Recently, I was messing around in 1.0.2 and was wanting to see how fast I could go at low altitudes. With just one whiplash jet engine, I was able to go around 1,500 m/s. So here's the challenge: Create a craft that can go ridiculous speed at low altitudes Rules No cheating (don't use the f12 menu!) The attempt must be made under Heat shield and fairings are suggested but not required Attach a .craft link for your entry. If this is not done, the submissions will be discarded unless there is a valid reason. Set the speed at below 3,000 meters above sea level and take a screenshot(f1 or fn+f1) having one screenshot while flying at around its top speed and one of the f3 menu is ok Some part clipping is ok as long as it isn't ridiculous (use common sense) Most of the craft must survive especially the probe / kerbal(s?) You can use MechJeb and still be considered stock Use the latest version (1.0.2) HAVE FUN! Honorable Mentions will be given to some of the largest crafts, smallest crafts, and any craft that can make me laugh. Also, if I need to have more categories I will. Leaderboards STOCK Manned: Un-manned: Honorable Mentions: MODDED Manned: Un-manned: Honorable Mentions: MY FAVORITES
  5. I must ask, are "A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S." as they are so called allowed? And if they are, are they considered wings? they can be set up to control the craft so i was just wondering the rules about them. Thanks - sbski.
  6. Love it what visual mods are you using? just got a new desktop recently and it is KSP BEAST! And is this in 1.0? with mods?
  7. Question: Can we have a detachable command pod to land on the mun and come back up to dock or is this cheating? Also, can we have drop tanks?
  8. Ohhh, with the new and larger landing gear (when 1.0 cines out HYPE!) we can have MASSIVE turbo props!
  9. I agree, also... NEVER GO TO THE NORTH POLE OF MOHO! It has a giant hole that goes down around 4.7 km and can be very glitchy. I remember the first time I found it, I was driving a rover between 2 bases and fell into it while afk eating a sandwich. No one died but I had to launch a rescue mission for them.
  10. Yes! there is an easy way: Use http://www.kerbalmaps.com/ You will need to select the planet/ moon that you would like, change the map type to slope and then look for larger areas of dark blue and blue, they are the areas with a slope that is not that big. Personally, without anything, the center of craters is where I aim for when landing. Hope this helps. - sbski - - - Updated - - - Also, the best landers are simple and can land on almost any slope (up to about 45 degrees =D). Personal my favorite lander is the 1 kerbal landing can with 2 generators and 4 landing gear on the can. Then, it has 1 1meter RCS tank below the pod, 2 radial RCS pods on the the tank and finally just 2 RCS engines. You can then add a docking port, parachutes or what ever you want. This lander is great because it has about 1700-1800 delta V and has and if it doesn't have the thrust to weight that you want, you can simply add more RCS engines because they have NO weight. So generally, Just don't care where I land because it has a very low center of mass.
  11. Personally, ScanSat takes away some of the adventure. I think it's fun to try to look at the map and have to guess rather than knowing where you are on the map. Also, I haven't used ScanSat for a bit but last time that I used it, it took forever to get the entire planet scanned. But have fun exploring!
  12. Sovnheim, to answer your question: Yes and No. It can be affected by your resolution of your screen and a few preferences. There are some really good ways of trying to find them but they are rare to just come across. The first way to find them in a non spoiler way is to go to http://www.kerbalmaps.com/ and show the anomolies(show location but not what is there. I suggest this one because you get a surprise after you look for the monument and find it). The second is to spend your time in very low (possibly) polar orbit looking for the 1 to 2 abnormal pixels of a easter egg (some are visible from orbit but really they are really hard to see). I don't suggest this, but you could just go out and look for an easter egg on one of the planets that contain them. I hope this helps - sbski
  13. to answer your question I think that they do and they are considered lifting bodies... I'm going to try and land a craft with lifting bodies...
  14. I'm going to see if you can actually power a propeller with wheels... Like the paddle boat but actually create thrust with them
