  1. Is that to help them escape from David Cameron? Awesome Pigs though. Now should they be called Peppa or Babe?
  2. Moar boosters. You don't need to restart, but you will need to rejig. Without pictures it's hard to give specific advice that relates to your launcher... I'll assume you're using a Shuttle-system in that you have a large main fuel tank, SRBs and the Shuttle attached to that... Just add some more SRBs until you get enough TWR. You can easily offset the SRBs into each other so that they don't look so ungainly. Yes, you may then need to rejig the Orbiter's positioning and the such, but it'll be a case of tweaking rather than a from scratch redesign.
  3. They are indeed disabled, every single one just to make sure. That's beautiful! And looks like its far more practical than mine. Yours also seems to be somewhat more reasonable in scale. +rep for ye. Post a link, I'd love to fly it and then deconstruct it to see how you went about it.
  4. Thanks! Definitely a better statue than craft. - - - Updated - - - Apparently in the game of Butterfly vs Kestrel... Butterfly > Kestrel.
  5. Casts an awesome shadow. Check. Handles like a pig. Check. Sadly I haven't yet discovered how to make this thing useful. However, through the magic of the Spider engine it sort of flaps its wings (because of this sometimes some of the canards clip through and look ungainly see pic #3). It has two Klaws for feet. It can land on them fairly well, best bet for survivability is to rock it onto the "tail feathers". You may need to retract the gear to unstick it from the ground. With this you can go and Klaw stuff. I assume. I say that, because I've tried and I usually end up crashing. So theoretically possible. Practically speaking, I suppose it's more a barely functional bird sculpture that seats one Kerbal. Probably make a good gatekeeper... There are some serious caveats with this if you want to fly it... Namely 20m/s should be seen as Vne. Bad stuff happens when you fly faster, namely an uncontrollable attraction to rapid disassembly through the medium of solid ground. If you want to descend, nope can't dive. It can only handle gentle, slow, powered descents. It handles like crap. I had a different prototypical variant that didn't have feathers in the same way - that flew beautifully. So I'll blame the form over function argument here. Takeoff - EVA from the pod if you don't use Take Command. Board the seat, stage once to fire up engines and retract the ladder. Let them spool up, then release the launch clamps and fly away. If you are successful in tagging something in the claws, you'll be able to lift a bit of payload. About 2/3rds throttle will give you liftoff (barely) at launch weights. So there is payload capability, if you can get it into the Klaws - I can't. Happy crashing. But hey, at least that shadow looks freaking awesome until you crash, right?! Download from KerbalX
  6. It won't look right without some sort of wizardry at the front to mimic all those antennas! Assuming you're going for night fighter.... But the overall shape looks good, even at humungous scale . Does it count as cheating if you have a [lapsed] pilot's license?
  7. I don't know if it's the angle of the pic, but for some reason it seems odd. Are those control surfaces angled down into the middle? That's what's bothering me with it from this view. It's cute, but it boils down to that single gripe... And I have no idea how to constructively word it, sorry mate. Maybe if you try raising the "cockpit area", to me it seems like that needs more "bubble" and height. With that said, it's still far more impressive than my last attempt to build an A-wing.
  8. I've had no real KSP time this week. But I did make some refinements to the Kestrel. Sadly, now I'm left with an entirely useless bird of prey. Bad things happen above 30m/s. All those control surfaces reap havoc. And it seems surprisingly difficult to tag anything in its talons. Lengthened the nose and subsequently need to rework the "head and face" completely. The profile was all wrong, too short a head for the body. But, the wings flap thanks to the magic of the spider engine so it looks like it flaps its wings, sort of.
  9. One of the two Mk2 Expansion packs, can't remember which, does indeed include "air RCS" blocks. They run off intake air, and need to be positioned and activated just like RCS.... Quick google, found it: It's the Quiztech pack: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/111691-WIP-1-0-4-(Dev-Paused)-QuizTech-Aero-Pack-v1-2-9-x-Updated-8-9-15
  10. Somehow he's even better because he's Monochrome! Nice job dude. Now I've got the freaking theme song stuck in my head... But where's the Fat Controller?
  11. I was tempted to make a handshaped object... But not tempted enough. You'll see the Bird soonâ„¢. I love the aesthetics of this. What mod/s are you using for this Rover?
  12. This is the Holy Grail that you seek: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/121034-1-0-2-May12-NoOffsetLimits-Removes-limits-for-part-offset-in-editor
  13. Not at all. It just didn't tickle me like the others I'm afraid, and I applied my personal view of "fun". If you look at the crap that I build, you'll see not many "spacecraft" among them. So it's not that surprising that most of the items featured weren't spacecraft. I'd also like to point you to the Disclaimer... The entire choice of craft was, as with every SCF, subjective. But just because I didn't love it, doesn't mean others don't. - - - Updated - - - Well the last SCF was a bit late, and I 'spose me being in Europe means this one's a bit early.
  14. So here we are, it’s Friday. And today I have the honour to host this week’s Spacecraft Friday. It’s surprisingly tough to sit there and to have to choose. What criteria should I use? What standards should I hold craft to? And I couldn’t find something that would work without being a giant douche. So I went back to basics with it. What looked like it would be fun. And so I have split this week into Stock and Mod. I tested all the stock craft (where downloads links were available), and narrowed it down to what was fun. And these three caught my heart in their own different ways. As for the Mod craft, well the two featured are just freaking neat pieces of art. There is no reasoning for the order, other than they must be organized into a list. Enough of my rambling, to the Stock craft! Redshift OTF’s Dual Rotor Helicopter I couldn’t not feature this, not only because of my love of things that spin, but mainly because this has to be the most pleasant KSP stock helicopter I’ve flown, and no I haven’t flown them all. For me this example displays an extremely durable rotor bearing, coupled with a low part count, and an easy to handle airframe that gives you a very [helicopter] noob friendly bird. Incredibly easy to fly without SAS assistance. My only gripe, it takes two minutes to fly to the VAB from the runway. Also handles crashing like a champ, probably because you can’t go fast enough to have any problems? Go fly it, and then go fly it under the R&D arch and start kissing the building and watch how the bearing just takes the abuse - it fits, just… Foxster’s Wonton Duna Does what it says on the tin, and is cute as a button. You could carpet bomb Duna with a fleet of these. Make some pew pew noises as you undock them from the cargo bay… Pew pew, 1… Pew pew 2… Although then you’d have to recover all those freaking Kerbals. Ain’t nobody got time for that when there’s fortune cookies to be stuffed! I loved the way it wobbles around like jelly on a plate when you’ve landed on Duna. Joelfry Kerman didn’t seem to enjoy the experience, as the picture shows. n.b.z.’s Komet Holy smokes, this thing is a pig to get in the air. It’s not an easy task. But who cares, if you’ve a gentle hand this thing is like a tiger kitten (I’m aware they have cubs, but cubs just don’t have the same cute factor as the word kitten), cute but will still tear your throat out if you let it. While I didn’t enjoy my ascent, I had this gooey feeling of joy as I pointed her towards the ground and let gravity and lift gently bring me back to the KSC, sweeping, wallowing s-turns, and just the beautiful silence. It’s just too cute. I love how this is replica-enough that you can see its heritage, but its more a homage and it seems to capture the “Kerbal spirit†perfectly. So y’know explosions and reverts before actually achieving success. Try it. You’ll curse, but you’ll be grinning at the same time. And now for the modded selection: The_Rocketeer’s KNER K3 Pacific - No. 4472 - 'Flying Kerbman’ I just had to choo-choose it for spacecraft Friday so I could make that terrible pun that I totally didn’t steal from The Simpsons. Actually, even if I didn’t want to make the terrible pun, I’d be remiss not to have included this monstrosity of a build. This isn’t about functionality, clearly with its whopping top speed, it’s about shovelling coal into a boiler and making choo-choo noises as you flip through the pictures. I’m in awe of the patience that went into it, and look at the details. Now please can you make it go faster? Azimech’s Optimus Prime C’mon who doesn’t freaking love Transformers? ‘nuff said.
  15. Redid the [main] wings on my lil birdie. Yes it's supposed to be a shadow picture It highlights the feather-effect. I'll have to redo the tail now, because it looks so freaking pony compared to the wings. Still got Klaws for talons, I'm determined to klaw something eventually.
  16. You are correct, if you enable them for roll they go the wrong way. As it stands, all of the [visible] control surfaces are locked because I went for aesthetics in the wing setup. There are some roll only elevons tucked away on the CoM. Tried with hidden pitch elevons, but couldn't position them well enough. Through 99.9% of the flight envelope the torque wheels are adequate. However using the rearmost's wings for controlling pitch provides a lot of extra pitch authority (that isn't really needed) if you struggle a bit. Speedwise, I've not managed more than about 190m/s, in a dive, at full power. So depends on the definition of some speed eh?
  17. This little thing is a happy accident, that is just such a charm to fly I had to share it. Not only does it look like a butterfly, but it's so docile in its handling that it is a great training VTOL craft. In fact its so docile that you don't need to use SAS (Note: VTOL thrust optimised for Dry CoM - some pitch trim will get you going just fine though if you're a keyboard user) naturally life is easier with SAS engaged. I can't stop just buzzing around the KSC in it. Features a spotlight because I felt like it and 55 parts is better than 54 right? AG1 - Toggle Gimbal for VTOL Engines AG2 - Tongue Toggle AG3 - Toggle Ladder AG9 - Toggle VTOL engines AG10 - Toggle HOTOL engine For HOTOL flights activate rear control surfaces for pitch to ensure optimum controllability. If you use Take Command - stage and go! If not, there's a command pod attached so that you can spawn and climb aboard the beast! For VTOL ops at Max Take Off Weight around 2/3rds (a smidge above) will get you airborne. Feedback, comments or criticisms, positive or negative or bland, are welcomed and encouraged. I'm tempted to make a rocket version for use as a moon lander of some sort... Download from KerbalX Not all pictures are representative of the final product... Some of the test craft have superfluous control surfaces!
  18. I have a couple of animal-related craft that I'm tinkering with at the moment, although both are designed to accommodate a rider in a command seat. I have the Kestrel. For when you need a bird of prey. So far I have not managed to successfully tag a Lamb Rover into its talons or anything else. But it does stand on its own two feet (with a bit of help from SAS and torque wheels). Need to redo the wings to get a better feathered look. This is only the first prototype. And the Butterfly. The Butterfly is also proving to be a supremely capable and easy to handle craft. It's balanced enough that you don't need to use SAS. Both 100% stock and VTOLs. Will post them to KerbalX once I'm happy with them.
  19. Pretty soon we'll see NASA raiding the Spacecraft Exchange for rockets...
  20. Took the Butterfly to the pool... As part of its flight testing programme...
  21. You read my mind... I just played with the cogs and that seemed to help, until the weak point of the Pendulum. It's been the weak point from the get go, I originally had more teeth connecting with it, but that caused it to stick. 1 tooth per "drive cog" seemed to give the most "reliable". I have the no offset limit mod... Now. My fear is that it actually needs to be rebuilt... Or give the pendulum its own drive device, but then that somewhat defeats its purpose. As it stands, if the pendulum stops the time stops. So just like a real Grandfather clock. Really appreciate the constructive criticisms and help!
  22. Interesting. I will take that on board and a have a poke around. For me it's always the two big cogs that are driven by the jets that get stuck. There's usually a tooth in there that sticks to its tooth friend. Even though the cogs are identical. But then it could be because I am also blowing onto it directly?
  23. Just to prove that I don't always creatively interpret rules... Here's 100% compliant Division I Stock [basic] entry. We'll call her the Butterfly Effect. Although I realise I am missing a through the hangar screenshot for one way... I went through it at 170m/s and didn't have the chance to "stop" and take a screenshot (I'm on a Mac so I need to do Fn + F1). But, on the second hangar I went much slower... I did fly through it without landing. Now that she's done the challenge I can go clipping crazy and make her a bit sleeker and what not.... Edit: Download link is available from KerbalX
