  1. Started to (finally) play 1.1 then realized that KJR does not work with it. Stopped playing already.
  2. Hype hype hype HYPE hype hype WOOOOO-WOOOOO HYPE hype hype
  3. I think industrial civilizations are quite rare, and even if they are there we can't detect them. If there was an Earth like planet orbiting Alpha Centauri we probably wouldn't know it given our available tools. The Sci-Fi trope of aliens watching "I love Lucy" 50 light years away is not possible given today's technology. The radio waves are just too weak to be detected across interstellar space. Sure if we aimed a very powerful transmitter at a point in the sky it might be detected, but we're not doing that, at least not very often. Life on Earth apparently arose quickly after things settled down enough for the ground to be solid and stuff stopped falling out of the sky in vast quantities. But for billions of years that life was barely more advanced than pond scum. And once more complex life did arise it did not immediately start constructing TV studios and making and broadcasting sit-coms. Dinosaurs dominated the planet for tens of millions of years and there is no evidence they were highly intelligent or capable of making the simplest of tools. The human species might have been around for the last million or so years but its only in the last few 100 years have we had anything like the technology to announce our presence to any who might be listening (and so far except for a few brief transmissions we have not done so). So if the Earth is at all typical (and of course thats the still the big unknown) and even if there are billions of Earth like planets supporting life in this galaxy there would still only be a handful of technological civilizations out there and if they are at all like us they aren't talking.
  4. And here is the Slickly Produced Video: That suicide burn landing is very impressive. Too bad we only get to see the Slickly Produced Video, I'd love to see raw video of that landing from multiple angles.
  5. Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing the slickly produced video that will no doubt appear in the next few days.
  6. Interesting use of multiple cores in a heavy lifter!
  7. This is all true. I still hate Steam and am OK with not having access to the pre-release.
  8. I loathe and utterly despise Steam. While I'd love to play the 1.1 pre-release its worth it not to have to use Steam if there is any way possible not to. Having said that I do have their stupid client running on machine for the few "must have" games that are only available on Steam. It does really liquid me off that I have to ask these parasites permission every time I want to play a game that I technically own.
  9. This is the one and only time I regret not buying a game on Steam when there is a non Steam alternative. I loathe Steam, but I wish I could get the pre-release RIGHT NOW!
  10. I predict it will be released exactly 1,000,000 seconds from..... *NOW*
  11. Another thing ULA has that SpaceX doesn't (and won't for some time) is a proven reliability track record. ULA has over 100 consecutive successful launches. SpaceX has 3 since their last failure. Having a much lower launch cost doesn't get you much if your $600,000,000 satellite ends up at the bottom of the Atlantic instead of in orbit.
  12. If they start getting paid the next thing you know they'll be wanting "safety gear" and "snack breaks" and even "time off" its a dangerous slippery slope!
  13. At this point I suspect we're not going to see it. The booster apparently came down very fast given that it punched a hole in the barge deck so maybe there's only a few frames of video anyway. On the other hand SpaceX is both very stingy with information and very image conscious. The previous video of failed barge landings at least showed a progression from near miss to almost but not quite landing before falling over and exploding to landing safely and then falling over and exploding. Whacking the barge at high speed does not fit into that narrative so no video (even though they said ahead of time that they did not expect success because of the degree of difficulty of the attempt).
  14. Possibly. Early on I added so many mods that KSP would crash during load from running out of memory, but that was several versions ago. Now it crashes after typically 45+ minutes of use so if it is an out of memory error its because something is leaking. Maybe something that should be implementing IDisposable isn't...
  15. I'm in a bit of a KSP hiatus myself. The real problem for me, though is crashing. KSP used to be stable for me but at some point some mod or another has made the game very unstable. Of course I could just back all the mods out and try and figure out which one is breaking things, but since 1.1 is coming soon-ish I didn't bother. The end result of that waiting has been every time I do go back and start messing around and potentially getting back into the game it crashes at some inopportune time and I go do something else instead. Once 1.1 is out and I have to start over anyway I'll probably get back into it again.
  16. Musk via Twitter: Rocket landed hard on the droneship. Didn't expect this one to work (v hot reentry), but next flight has a good chance.
  17. I don't know if they do, just speculating. The landing occurred below the horizon from the Cape so if they had telemetry all the way down it would have to be relayed via something. I agree that they must know something by now, so since they're not saying anything it probably failed. I would guess that once know what happened and have some nice splody video they will make a statement.
  18. The barge was quite a long way downrange, they may well not have direct telemetry from the stage. If it was being relayed through the OCISLY its possible that it landed but damaged the antenna (unlikely IMO).
  19. No word on the stage 1 landing. Either it failed, or they don't know (most likely reason for them not knowing is that it failed).
  20. I think the support ships are fairly close by. If it was a success they should know (but are probably busy safeing the stage).
  21. Webcast not mentioning the S1 landing at all.
  22. I think nasaspaceflight just melted after people posted rumors of a successful landing.
  23. Nothing official. Twitter rumors it landed.
