  2. Ok, those little dudes weigh 180 kilos? (For us Americans, that's almost 400 lbs.) Isn't that a bit heavy? EDIT: Jenny Kerman (Craig) could make a fortune there!
  3. I don't think that's quite as simple as putting in a new pair of shoes. They might have to rebuild the whole application. Yikes!
  4. Aren't all seagoing ships' throttles (called telegraphs, I believe) divided into thirds? Not sure why. But, it's been that way since the first steamships.
  5. Middle of the road Toshiba laptop (8 gigs ram, integrated vid card), lots of big nasty mods and zero lag. This game runs best on linux and in full 64 bit glory! 8 gigs of ram is a lot for this game and linux - if you can use it all. The 32 bit version limits the application to around 3.7 gigs. I used to crash with over 40% of my memory just sitting there idling. I installed Ubuntu (I hear lots of folks are big on Mint, as well) and now I don't crash and hardly ever lag, even with crap Intel integrated graphics (HD 4000). I have a big rig I hardly ever use sitting in my home office. But, I prefer my couch and laptop combo in front of the fireplace over the desk and office combo. Anyway, most everyone here posted a machine with better specs than mine. But, it doesn't really matter how much gear you have if you have to run it in 32 bits with a 3.7 gig ram limit. All that fancy hardware might as well be a burrito. You can eat a burrito, at least. But, empty ram is just wasted. In short, it hardly matters how good your gear is if you can't use it to run the application. And don't get me started about the memory leaks... bad, bad, bad.
  6. I use FAR. I try to balance my thrust for a true gravity turn, using gravity and drag to do the work. It's great when you can get up to desired altitude/attitude without having to touch the controls after initial lift off. It's very satisfying, actually. ;-)
  7. Huh... ScanSat and Remote Tech are two of my favorites. That explains a lot. No wonder I could only play a couple of hours at a time. It would never go above 3.5 gigs, though, if the application cleaned up after itself. Obviously, this is just poor programming. Memory leaks are (almost) always human error.
  8. Hi there! I just wanted to drop by and thank you for a great mod. The modding community for KSP is exceptional and SETI is a standout, truly excellent. You should be proud of such good work. A couple of quick questions: 1. in the beginning you have procedural SRBs limited to 0.5m in diameter. It looks rather odd on the beginner probe. So, I changed it on my installation. Is that by design or is it a minor error? If it's intentional, couldn't you acheive a similar fuel limitation by limiting length, rather than width? That would look much nicer, yes? 2. Have you considered adjusting the business strategies? I find the beginning of the game is suitably challenging. But, as soon as I have the rep to get the unpaid interns, I start getting way too much science, even at 25% commitment. It seems to wreck the balance you're trying so hard to acheive. Well, thanks, again. Time to grab your latest update and give it a spin!!
  9. Thanks, Maximus! I have a beast I built myself. It's water-cooled, i7 quad core, 16 gigs of RAM, HDD, etc. It's pretty sweet. But, it's at a desk in my home office and I like hanging out on my couch, not at a desk. ;-) So, I mostly play on my laptop, which is a mid-grade Toshiba with eight gigs of RAM and and integrated Intel HD4000. It's modest. But it's more than enough to run KSP, Sometimes I hook it up to the receiver and run it through the TV and stereo with a wireless mouse and keyboard. Can't do that in the office... That's why I was so frustrated... reading logs that say I ran out of memory and crashed - with gobs of unused memory just sitting there. I guess a lot of folks don't use many mods. But, I'm running 22 or so, I believe. So, I had to use ATM and the texture replacer and all that drama and still crashed every couple of hours. Now, I can play for hours and hours and barely slow down, even with a lot of scene switching and the resuling memory leaks. I'm stoked!! Anyway, I think I'll sneak in another mission before real life comes barging back in. Have a good one! - - - Updated - - - They really have done a heck of a job. I believe I'll follow your suggestion and pass out a few attaboys. It's the least I can do, since I won't go anywhere near PayPal. They're kinda evil. *chuckle*
  10. KSP. What can I say? I liked it straight out of the box, no mods, 32 bit. I really liked after I got a feel for it and added mods, like FAR, Deadly Reentry, Remote Tech and SETI, to name some of my favorites. In fact, I liked it so much (and got so tired of RAM crashing) that it tipped the scales in favor of taking the time and energy to dual boot my native Windblows 8.1 with Ubuntu so I could run KSP in all its 64 bit glory. It was a royal pain in the backside, but... OMG!! It. Was. Totally. Worth. It. So, my fellow kerbonaughts, if you have the time and the inclination, and you're sick of dealing with the RAM ceiling in the 32 bit version, install a supported linux distro, delete Active Texture Management, and pile on all the mods your wee hearts desire. It's a good time! NOTE: If you try this at home, and you have MAJOR graphics issues in KSP, turn off Edge Highlighting (PPFX) in the graphics settings. Don't do what I did and blow up linux trying to fix your video drivers.
