  1. i play stock because it's a standard measurement of difficulty equal for all players who download the game, and a constant over time (except of course when patches come along). Meaning i can safely compare my crafts, records, and difficult situations with others players.

The only mods i enjoy, are the ones that add planets, but i keep a copy of the game for those.

  2. You guys realize you're talking about a space game and not a plane flying simulator, right? I too find the plane building and flying aspects fun, but they're more like sidequests to what this game should be really about: rocketry and space exploration. I've been playing this game since 0.13 (yes, 0.13), and the fact that there's starting to be more plane parts than ship parts is worry-some. Between that and the "realistic but unrealistic" aerodynamics, this game is turning more and more into kerbal flight simulator. Did Squad forget what this game is about?

  3. Hello, I was trying out the new patch, and while building my rocket, i kept my engineer report tab open.

I noticed that when i put a battery cell between the parachute and the command module, it gives me the following warning:

    2eg8tue.jpg

Clearly there is a parachute, and it detects one, but i don't understand the "found in the same separation stage" part, since it's in its own separation stage.

Also, so not to start a new thread, i just wanted to point out another bug which i still get pretty often (and was also in 0.9 and versions prior):

When i press "launch" and go to the launching pad, occasionally my view will be from very very far away and i have to zoom in quite a bit to get a view of my rocket.

  4. So happy, i found one of my backups for 0.90, i completely forgot i had even made it, time to continue my Elcano challenge :D

Must say 1.0.2 will not be missed, i look forward to trying the full game once they actually have it right but until then its long endless hours of crossing the grass lands.

I was starting to miss my jet atv, only downside is now no one will want any of the craft i build, ah well more for me i guess.

You reminded me that i had made copies of 0.90 for the multi planet mods. Yay!I agree with you regarding 1.0.2.

  5. So, given the nature of this game, i assumed that posters of this forum would be more mature than the likes of blizzard forums, but i may have been mistaken.

In response to one of the replies, at the time i posted my message with regards to aerodynamics, i didn't spot another thread about on the front page. And if there's already been numerous posts about this, all i can say is: good! Hopefully squad will notice and address this.

The game didn't feel ready for 1.0.

  6. argh..i can't stand the new physics in 1.02. I didn't have a chance to play with 1.00, but my friend whom i'm playing with right now claims that they've changed since 1.00. Is it so? I know we've taken liberties in the past with ship design pre-1.00, but i'm not really enjoying the game in this state.

  7. i think when submitting a challenge, one should consider the purpose of that challenge: Is it fun? Is it educational? Would taking part of it improve my KSP skills somehow?

Frankly, this seems simply like a test of endurance for...nothing. There's no real skill involved other than the ability to not get a sore butt from sitting all day and a sore index finger from holding down W.

I'm sorry for being so forward, i realize you put good thought into it from how you wrote the intro, i just think this challenge is more a chore than an accomplishment.

I'd personally hate ksp after finishing that journey.

  8. Duna

    Foxster - 32d, 05:27:27

    Starhawk - 34d, 4:51:08

    Foxster - 1y, 36d, 04:52:48

    things are getting interesting.

Question: are you guys purely aerobraking or do you have to thrust backwards in order to not fling out of duna's SOI?

I got a ship that can do the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, i'm just having a hard time bulls-eying duna now.

are you guys aiming straight at duna, in front of it or behind it?

  9. 4) The Kraken-Jeb Challenge: This is the ultimate challenge. For those of you who are so bored with normal KSP that you want to start doing the impossible, this is the challenge for you. The Kraken-Jeb Challenge features, in addition to the stock PFCE planets, six planetary packs: Dooz's Kaiser System, Megalodon 720's Kerbolis Pack, Kerbol's Asteroid Belt by Deadpangod3, Sido's Urania System, Cooly568's Super Eve System, and Outer Planets. This is the ultimate challenge, and I seriously doubt anyone will ever complete it, even with the refueling missions this will allow. But then, I've been surprised before...

is that a single mod incorporating all all those systems? If so, how do i find it? I don't get any results for kraken-jeb other than kraken related posts.

  10. I'm playing around with the outer planets mod and Planet factory. Some of the planets are ridiculously far, as in, 40 years away. I don't really want to mess with modded parts or engines, so i rather just speed up the pace of time beyond stock ksp limitations.

I saw a mod that already does this: StarSystems, so i'm wondering if there's a standalone mod for time control that i can implement with the outer planets and planet factory.

  11. After a small glitch related setback, i managed to recover my game and continue my speed run. I'm taking screenshots on the way.

I'll wait till i'm finished to post further updates, but here's a quick one just to give an idea of what i'm doing.

    EASY SCIENCE MODE

    Year 1, Day 27

Completed return missions from Mun and Minmus, and have 2 ships en route to Dres and Duna.

Unlocked nuclear rockets and the biggest rocket engine, so i'm ready to push to Jool and eloo (even though i've never returned a kerbal from jool before and never been to eloo yet!)

Started the game by doing some quickie Kerbin science on the launchpad and runway to unlock decoupler, etc.

Then built a single lift stage to carry 2 rockets to orbit, separating them and sending them their separate ways to Mun and Minmus.

By the time i got to Mun and back, the Minmus landing was still a week away, so, to save time, i used my Mun science (+600) to unlock some tech tree and get a Duna craft on its way. After that, i figured i had enough tech to get a craft to Dres too. Got those 2 ships off the ground and out of Kerbin's orbit, then completed the Minmus landing and returned the craft home (+900 science). All in a month's work.

    10xdixf.jpg

Here's the Minmus craft still waiting to enter the moons sphere of influence. Meanwhile the other 2 crafts are on an escape trajectory from Kerbin (the map shows them as orbits but they were actually escaping).

This is actually turning out to be a fun challenge, with multiple missions en route, instead of the usual "1 mission at a time" method of playing.

I was going to consider doing the outer planets mod. I downloaded it after reading this challenge to check them out. I like them, but it will take lots of in-game years to get to them. It will take almost 40 years (!!!) to get to the outside most planet, using stock components.

  12. Just download the archive, unzip it and merge the gamedata folder with the one in your ksp install

Every time you launch ksp, the game will load the mod. If you want your old saves to not have opm you need to either remove opm before loading those saves or alternatively make a copy of your ksp install and use the copy for opm

    wow, fast response!

    thank you. Will do.

  13. this will be a newby question, but i can't find a how to tread on installing mods.

This first page specifies not to install over a previous installment, but not how to install.

    A little help, please?

Also, will this affect my other saves? I'd like to keep my other saves stock, if possible.

I know it has something to do with moving a folder in a gamedata folder somewhere.
