  1. Given that there is a setting which determines the number of messages per page, having a large post would probably not affect the number of posts on a page. Also small
  2. OK, I have finally come up with some rules for this game. Now in this game the Kerbal Space Program has decided to embark on a colonisation mission. Game Rules: Resources To sustain and expand your colony, you need to extract resources from the environment. Resources are rated according to their Availability, which determines how much resource you get for a certain amount of harvesting capability. For example, if you had a Metal resource with availability 3, and had built a facility with a harvesting capability of 10, you would get 30 units of Metal per turn. I am planning on including at least the following resources at first: [li]Air[/li] [li]Metal[/li] [li]Silicon[/li] [li]Water[/li] Industry In addition to harvesting resources, many of them can be converted into many useful products. I am still not entirely sure about how to do this, but want to have more complex products require more advanced production facilities. Construction You can construct additional structures either inside or outside your colony. Structures are probably going to be made from industrial products, and large structures will require construction equipment. Storage The various products and resources have different storage requirements (such that you can't put air in the same kind of container as metal). While each resource will occupy the same amount of space (i.e. 1 unit of water is the same volume as 1 unit of metal), products will have differing sizes. Now I am trying to think up something about research and coming up with numbers for the above sections. I am wondering however if anyone is interested in a game like this, and whether it should have multiple colonies or just one.
  3. While I agree that the repeated docking missions are tedious, you can avoid the need for docking entirely by doing a direct ascent moon landing with the 4-person capsule.
  4. Losboccacc, you can get a manual here. I have a question though. As I have started playing Race Into Space again recently, I am wondering if my progress is alright, having done my first successful Mercury mission in Spring 1960?
  5. Ah, I remember Race Into Space. Incidentally, I have only managed to win as the soviets.
  6. I have another astrodynamics question, this time regarding low-thrust propulsion systems such as ion engines. Basically, if an orbiting spacecraft maintains the same orientation, a low-thrust propulsion system cannot be used, since the momentum change on one side of the orbit will be cancelled out by the momentum change on the other side of the orbit. My question is: what is the most propellent-efficient method of causing momentum changes? Is it: a) only firing the engine on one side of the orbit, somehow rotating the spacecraft so that the momentum change is always in the same direction as the orbital velocity or c) something else altogether?
  7. Since this is my first forum game, I suppose I would like some input into how detailed I should make the research, manufacturing and combat sections of this hypothetical forum game. Also I would like some input into the setting (although Kerbal X-COM sounds interesting) In fact, I was thinking something along the lines of a forum game like the old Outpost. Any thoughts?
  8. OK, since the other forum game here seems to be dead, I have decided to run my own space-related forum game, but am not completely sure what it should be about. I am leaning towards a game where the players conduct research, develop and construct spacecraft, and eventually conquer space (or possibly some vague existential threat of some variety) but would like some suggestions.
  9. So, when can we expect the first turn?
  10. This is something that has been bothering me for a while, and I am hoping that someone more knowledgeable than me about astrodynamics can help. It regards the problem of propelling a spacecraft from Earth's orbit to Alpha Centauri, and I want to know how to work out some facts about this hypothetical voyage (such as the required delta-v and the best position to launch from)
  11. I would like to reiterate my desire to purchase a orbital satellite and basic rocket program, if you missed it. Also, what happens to prestige if two or more space programs manage to complete a mission first at the same time?
  12. Well in that case, I will start research programs for orbital satellites and basic rockets. Budget for 1956: Starting funds: $30 M Start Explorer program (orbital satellite): -$6 M Start K-1 program (basic rocket): -$24 M Ending funds: $0 M A few questions: [list type=decimal] [li]Do you want us to come up with names for our equipment?[/li] [li]Would you like us to do roleplaying in this?[/li] [li]Does starting a program give us one piece of equipment like in BARIS?[/li]
  13. I would like to play. Ideology: Kapitalist Traits: Science Focus, Equatorial Nation Also, is it just me or do the program costs add up to 70 rather than 30?
