Anyone else finding this? I tried to land an asteroid on Kerbin which is a fun mission, but time warp caused some weird things to happen, like the ship and the asteroid orbiting 2 different kerbin centers of mass, if that makes sense.

Is anyone else finding that when a radiator clips other parts that the temerature shoots up to infinity? Something is clearly amiss.

I believe all that needs to be said here, is that the time warp bug needs to be fixed. Even the bug is manageable if you warp to somewhere just ahead of your window, with your finger on the "turn off time warp" button. -

My concern initially was, if I had to do a 2 year maneuver that the MPL would just give me the whole tech tree, making 2 year maneuvers not that fun because you end up unlocking the whole tech tree... but this seems to not be the case as I play through. The more mircomanagement you do for the MPL the more science you get but if you just ignore micro and go for macro since microing them perfectly would be a bit tedious, they seem to give a fair amount of science. -

I'm not really sure exactly what you are saying... but I don't think you read the point I'm making in the OP. I'm suggesting to nerf the rate at which the MPL can generate science. - - - Updated - - - The way contracts work, you have to keep shopping around and checking back with mission control every so often. If you don't accept a contract in the 2 or 3 day deadline, then you don't get it and miss out on the potential to get a reward. Therefore, time is a resource, at all times in career mode. -

I do not think it is a terrible idea. This would encourage you to set up a research lab anywhere you could. You'd want one orbiting kerbin, landed on kerbin, orbiting the mun, landed on mun, maybe even a couple per planet/moon. The amount of science you would be able to get by setting up a dozen of these labs, with the current rates, would be utterly ridiculous and you'd just be drowning in science, to the point you wouldn't have any use for it. You would convert it to funds and reputation, but soon you'd be completely swamped in both of those resources too. If you are concerned about tedious grinding before getting the higher tech, then sandbox mode is the one you want. To me, career mode on hard mode means it's not easy to abuse the MPL's return rate. -
There are 2 issues in my opinion of the MPL: 1 - If you start researching, and go back to the space center, data will continue to be converted into science despite insufficient electrical charge. 2 - Still seems like it generates too much science and you can unlock the whole tech tree way too fast. To deal with issue number 1, I think there is a quite satisfactory solution. I assume what's going on in the game's code in the background, is that whenever a ship isn't loaded into physics and has research started, the game just applies the conversion at whatever rate, and electricity requirements are ignored because the ship WOULD need to be loaded into physics to compute how much electricity is generated by solar. That could be computationally expensive if you start adding a few research labs throughout the solar system. So the solution I would think would make sense, would be to just compute a quick number from the geometry and the type of solar panels on your ship, as to what percentage of incident sunlight is converted into electricity. Then, if the ship is illuminated, it generates electricity, if it isn't it doesn't. Essentially just do a really crude, as light as computationally possible, calculation of received electricity from solar, and then use that result in calculating how much data is converted into science. Yes, it's not that hard to add solar panels anyway and it only would cost 1000 or so funds to cover the generation requirements for a researching lab, so if the game takes the shortcut of ignoring electricity requirements it's kind of justified. But I prefer the idea of being sh*t out of luck if you didn't account for the amount of electricity that researching requires. I would also suggest that this solution be applied to drilling and ore accumulation... I've not tested it but I assume it just ignores electricity requirements. And ESPECIALLY with the drill, it takes a LOT of electricity and half the planet it's on is in darkness half the time, so I would really like to see ore accumulation bottlenecked by electricity income when drilling vessels aren't loaded into physics, if it isn't already. Issue number 2 has been discussed a lot... I think the maximum amount of science you can get per year should be set to something like 1000 science or something, and then the rates are just calculated to satisfy this requirement. From my spreadsheet calculations, if you start with 500 data, and a level5 scientist converts 0.06% of all total remaining data that day to science at a rate of 5 science per data, then it would take 1 year to generate 1000 science. So the ONLY 2 numbers that we need to agree on are, science per data, and percentage per day (for a level5 scientist), and of course a few other details. I suggest that the maximum for these 2 numbers respectively be 500 and 0.06%, and maybe level0 scientists could get something like 0.02 percentage per day, yielding about 200 science starting with 500 data over the course of a year. Putting the numbers like that would nerf the MPL to the point that you couldn't abuse it, but if you really tried to have a bunch of them going and really tried to max out your science yield, only then would you get some tasty science.

Can't Load Subassemblies.

I restarted KSP and still can't load my "PODX" craft. I have one mod installed, KerbalEngineer - 1.0.17.0 For ease of access I'll just save the particular craft file in this post below, as well as another craft that works fine. I have installed Kerbal Engineer Redux. I can apparently save subassemblies into the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\saves\MERCURY\Subassemblies but I cannot load them. Screenshot shows the problem:

To describe the problem with a screenshot: A lot of this text is unreadable, which is especially problematic if you need to read a deltav number or something else that happens to be important. As well, the ellipses doesn't really help because yes there is additional text but I can't read it without finding the right screen angle. I think map user interface could use some pop up boxes for this type of text, to make sure it never overlaps.

you can also just have one battery on your vessel that is already shut off, and use that for backup power. I probably would not want multiple systems competing over the same battery, with one trying to shut it off and another trying to use it.

It would be cool to have one of the ships without any crew or power so you have to try and save it before it crashes.

I'll just quickly jot down an idea I had for multiplayer: I was thinking it would be cool to have a sort of mashup between KSP and transport tycoon, but then I thought "You'd have mine the ore, transfer it to a ship, and launch it into orbit yourself for every transport route, but in transport tycoon the trains just go back and forth between nodes themselves". So then I thought, "maybe the rockets could be flown by individual players on a multiplayer server". And then, if anyone wants to timewarp, you set a time and date for the timewarp and while everyone waits they can fly ore from orbit to ground or vice versa like the trains from transport tycoon". Then I was wondering, "what to do with all this ore?", and thought maybe it would be cool to use it to build transistors and logic gates. So then the goal is to mine a bunch of ore to essentially build a small, not very complex computer out of the ore you mine (kind of like in minecraft), and then use it to compute trajectories and then take over rocket orbit and de-orbit flights and send the commands from a control tower to the OKTOs. So if your commands fail the rockets crash and you lose the ore and the rocket and all that. Kind of like how back in the 60s computing power was limited and computer bugs could be a problem. Then what? So to make it competitive, you could have multiple stars each with their own planets, and then each solar system sort of forms a team of people. So they are trying to essentially race each other to build up a transportation empire, just like in transport tycoon. And then to make it more interesting you could have people sending players into an enemy solar system to hack the computers they made from the ore they mined and hamper their progress in the space race. And the goal being... I guess to steal resources from other solar systems and bring them to your own before other people mine it and use it and come and take yours? And of course they could also steal the asteroids and build computers out of them, and there are a lot of goals you could have with building a computer. It would be interesting how such a large scale thing would pan out. Would different solar systems team up with each other in order to advance faster? Would they attempt to destroy all life in a solar system in order to steal the resources for themselves. I don't know, just a suggestion.

How about this: make a variant of career mode where in order to unlock parts of the tech tree, you need to achieve certain milestones. For example, in order to unlock basic rocketry, you need to achieve at altitude of 20km. In order to unlock engineering 101, you need to get crew reports from the grasslands, the highlands, and flying over the water. And the tech tree tells you all this. For higher tier stuff like Advanced Electrics you would need to land on Duna and land on Eve, for example. And you can still collect science...and you need to get a certain amount of science to unlock tier one, tier 2, etc. So in order to get the best rockets in the game and the best aerodynamics and all that, you would have to visit the really far planets, and you also have to spend science to unlock a particular tier before you can do the science experiments that unlock it. This way, people who don't want to be able to unlock everything before visiting all the planets are satisfied, and the people who don't care how you can just fill up a MPL with data and time warp a few years don't bother with this mode.

After many tries, I've managed to dock 2 ships on the surface with upward facing ports, that only have prograde rockets: meaning if either one is upside down, it accelerates down even with RCS fighting it. Here is how to perform the maneuver: STEP 1: Bring yourself to a hover above the target. STEP 2: Line yourself up above the target. STEP 3: Accelerate upwards and do the flip of no return. STEP 4: Perform any final adjustments with haste, as you pick up speed towards your target. STEP 5: Once you land on your target, you may have to wiggle around a bit to get the docking ports to mate, and if you don't knock everything over, success! I haven't bothered to change the default... I haven't even changed my desktop background and I've had the computer since February. Can't be bothered with any of it.
