  1. Hi, I'm trying to build a ship for this challenge, I know my ships and kerbals have to travel to jool as a single ship but when am I allowed to separate docking ports ? Do I have to wait for a stable orbit in the Jool system or is it enough to be inside Pol's orbit ? I couldn't find an answer to this question, sorry if it has been asked a thousand times already.

  3. The only problem I've seen with Windows 10 and KSP is that their new browser fails to load the new message editor on this forum... I wish KSP on linux wasn't so slow...
  4. Hi all, this is the first time I post here what I'm doing in KSP, I hope I won't break some forum rules. This morning I was reading some old reddit challenges, the first one was to put 25 people on the Mun, the second one was to design an Appolo style mission to land two people and a rover. So I thought why not send a huge rover, e.g a school bus, to the Mun ? So here is how Ms Val, 31 childs and three pilots went there. On the launchpad, OK it does not exactly look like a school bus but it carries 35 people anyway. Just after launch, everything goes well, separation of the first aspargus stage: Apoapsis is high enough, let's aim for the Mun! Here we go ! After some adjustments: Braking hard to get into orbit around the Mun: 30 km high circular orbit and some fuel left in the main tank for deorbiting ! Choosing a nice "muning" site, and getting there without breaking anything: I had just enough fuel in the main tank to get there ! Gently braking Driving a bit around there: Everybody enjoys the trip ! But it is time to go home. At first I thought I would have to leave the landing gear here but I had enough thrust to take it back to Kerbin: After some aerobraking and orbit adjustments It is time for the childs to come back home and watch Jebediah leaving Kerbin again for it's next mission to Eve: 1.9 km away from Jebediah's next rocket, not too bad ! Val had to EVA to repair two wheels broken at landing: And the 34 other people are back just in time for Jebediah to jump in its new rocket: The Eve Express: On this new mission Jebediah became the most famous kerbonaut of all time as he was the first one to come back alive from Eve. However it looks like after some errors it the D/V available in his lander he had only enough fuel to reach a 9165m periapsis, what could he do ? Is he going to die there ? Of course niot, Jeb fears nothing so he used his EVA suit to gain some more D/V: Depleted too, but he is safe: Time to send the return ship to pick him up: It was a bit tricky as Jeb was not able to move but finally he managed to grab it and board: No time for nice optimal transfer orbits, we have lots of fuel now so lets burn it and come back home: And after a safe landing Jeb took some well deserved holidays... ... on Eeloo !!! Maybe next time he'll drive Ms Val's school bus here ?

  6. Hi, You mean the sepratrons on top of the first aspargus stage? I can't test right now but I will asap, anyway that shouldn't crash the game so I think I'll fill a bug report. Thanks to both of you for the tests.
  7. Hi, could you tell me why the TR-38-D in the ship "Ore rover.craft" attached to this post keeps crashing my game every time I try to stage it ? Step to reproduce: launch the ship, first aspargus staging, second aspargus staging, try to stage the TR38D => crash If I try to manually separate (right click) it crashes too, and the second TR-38-D a bit above the first one crashes the game as well when activated manually. The ship is a work in progress so please don't comment on the wacky design , this bug is definitely a showstopper for me. Tested on KSP 1.0.2 linux 32 and 64 bits, ubuntu 14.04, nvidia drivers, Player.log attached to this message too, no crash report available all I have is a Segmentation Fault. I checked the memory while playing, at worst I got that: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2048424 1977324 71100 9360 336 41988 -/+ buffers/cache: 1935000 113424 Swap: 7875576 637920 7237656 With PhysicsSignificance set to 0 (old TR-38-D bug) the ship breaks apart before I can try to stage. I'd like to know if there is something obviously wrong in my ship before issuing an official bug report. Thanks a lot. Player.log Ore rover.craft
  8. Ok I finally did it ! I used a rocket, I couldn't manage to get a plane flying into orbit with such a payload. My best plane design was this, the highest altitude it could climb to was only 6000m: I'm using a small dedicated rover to move the asteroid on the KSC runway and attach it to my planes/rockets: So I gave up with planes and switched to rockets and it was much easier this way, I used a Kerbodyne S3 14400 as a counterweight, the rocket design is very basic with asparagus staging, it has tons of reaction wheels and RCS thrusters but nothing more: I launched from the runway as it was easier to move the asteroid on a flat ground. I had A LOT of failed attempts: The most difficult part was to find the right balance of fuel to move in the counterweight to be able to control the rocket at high speed. The rock drags like hell and I was a bit stupid to put an aerodynamic top on the counterweight but finally I found the right amount of fuel to move into the counterweight: I'm no Scott Manley and it was very difficult to control this thing: I even had to move back some fuel at high altitude as the rocket was pitching down, believe me it's not easy at all to click on the fuel tanks while keeping this thing on its trajectory ! It starts to look good: And finally, my orbit sucks but I did it ! Maybe it's useless to put an asteroid back in orbit but I'm very proud of what I did Do you think it would be worth to start a challenge about this to see what other people can do ?
  9. Hi I got this crazy idea to put back in orbit a 12 tons class C asteroid. It is near the runway at KSC I've tried many planes or rocket designs but the best I could achieve never got higher than 6000m. Do you have any idea ? I've been trying to do that for three weeks but now I'm out of ideas. I'm using KSP 1.0 with no mods. Thanks !
