  1. I've always liked to assume that kerbals have a really, really high boredom threshold and are quite happy to sit there for years at a time eating goo and looking at pretty lights and dials. If they're going to add life support, I would like to see a stasis gizmo that can be put into pods added to the middle of the science tree and maybe another that allows longer periods of stasis to the high end (1000 science+) It could automatically engage and reduce life support requirements to 10% of normal when your ship is more than 1million km from any planetary body or moon and no manoeuvres are plotted within 10 days perhaps?
  2. That's not a challenge. Everyone knows that's on Minmus. I mean, the whole moon is made from mint flavoured fudge (Although Duna might run it a close second, as it appears to be made of strawberries and cream. Yum!)
  3. Today I sent a 5 man team to land on Gilly for the explore Gilly contract. Finally landed successfully but only had 2.3k Dv left and was a bit worried I might not make it back to Kerbin. Did all the science, planted flags etc and left for the return home. I was so busy concentrating on getting back safely it wasn't until I touched down back on Kerbin that I realised there were only 4 Kerbals on board. Jeb is currently on his way back to Gilly with a rescue mission.......
  4. Very true, BUT and it's a big but, they can do more and until they give me the option to turn them all off completely, which they don't at this time, then it's not an OS I'm going to be using. This is regardless of whether it's for the good of mankind, Microsoft & it's 'trusted partners' (for 'trusted partners' read advertisers who pay MS for the privilege of sending targeted ads to your desktop via live tiles, windows store apps and whilst browsing the internet) or anyone else. There is also 'forced updates' for anyone not using the pro (who can only delay them while all the 'home' users test them without knowing) or enterprise editions. Remember all those windows updates over the years that broke your PC, well you can't stop them now without a lot of mucking about with system files, permissions and stuff. Win 10 managed to completely bork my Nvidia based laptop within a few days with this 'feature' I don't think there is anything insidious or big brother about it it, just extremely annoying and totally unnecessary. At the end of the day it's just an OS that's supposed to provide the means for me to interact with my PC hardware. If MS can no longer provide me with that without all the built in and unstoppable 'metrics and updates' then I suppose I'll have to look elsewhere.
  5. Pretty much this. Although I have it installed on a laptop I only use for internet browsing in the kitchen so that I can experiment with it a bit.. So far I have managed to disable both Cortana and it's bloody annoying process that keeps restarting itself, disabled the 'forced' windows updates, got back some nice coloured window title bars instead of the flat white things that MS seem to think are the latest craze and disabled all of the 'metrics' (personal info) it tries to send back to MS. Might as well go back to Win7 or 8.1 or move to Linux and avoid all the mucking about.
  6. That is stunning. Reminds me of the Reapers from the Mass Effect games.
  7. This! My WIERD (Wildly Inefficient and expensive rocket development) Science division lost 5 of it's rising stars today when Lemley Kerman, until recently best known as the unluckiest Kerbal alive, accidentally dropped his packed lunch onto the emergency chute deploy button whilst the re-entry capsule carrying himself and four of his fellow Kerbals was still in the upper atmosphere. Once the smudges left behind by the 5 brave Kerbonauts (Lemley, Suke, Theodrin, Edgun and Heidi) are identified then the few remaining atoms will be returned to the families involved in the hope that they will be used to discourage further applicants to the program, until such time as there is a greater than 3% chance of survival at launch.
  8. Saw this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-33608816 on the BBC news site earlier. First thought was' Can I build this?' Second was that the driver must play KSP and has 'gone Kerbal' IRL. Anyone done anything similar? or have any other examples of someone 'going Kerbal'?
  9. Today I finished work on the first of my 'Explorer' series of modular landers. Hopefully designed to be able to land on any planet or moon that it's possible to land on. One fly in the ointment however was when the documents came back from the patent office there was much laughter amongst the employees after a 'spelling mistake' was noticed. So tomorrow I will be testing the first in my series of 'Exploder' modular landers and when I find out who is responsible, they will be making the first test flight. Edit: Spelling
  10. I'm just a bog standard 52 yr old factory worker who loves puzzles and games. I treat KSP like a giant, unending puzzle game and in particular love de-constructing and adapting ideas I see in other players screenshots. Which is why I totally did NOT spend 5 hrs today de-constructing and shamelessly copying some of the ideas from a mini lander shown in another thread here and adapting them for my own current project to make an out and back ship capable of carrying 3 kerbals, landing on any planet that can be landed on and returning to Kerbin in 1 trip.
  11. I'm no expert, but my guess is it's probably running out of intake air and changing to a rocket engine? I seem to remember you need the shock cone intakes to get max air breathing performance, but once the engine can't get enough air through the intakes it auto-switches and it's rocket engine all the way.
  12. I've just registered to to say that I, and Jeb, Bill and Burney Kerman (who's quite aptly named) would all like to say thanks to you for that tip. You've saved my sanity and many Kerbals lives with that piece of information. Every time I loaded my Minmus lander from 1.02 it would explode in a fiery ball of overheating doom within 10 secs, now it's landed with 3 live Kerbals who are quite happily doing science once more
