  1. by all means you can use the design. Its pretty simple but here's the craft file. I may have switched the whiplash for a RAPIER in this craft file which actually went higher in the end but I don't really like to re upload new versions of crafts to these challenges if I can help it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/bnvvxopag496r3j/Jet Altitude Challenge.craft?dl=0 Here's another final design that looks pretty cool and handled pretty much the same.
  2. This was a super fun challenge. For my entry I decided to go with as little wings as possible and a single whiplash. Altitude achieved was 142,980m. This little guy was a bit of a nightmare to land and poor Valentina pulled nearly 55g pulling out of the dive. The rest of the Images:
  3. awesome EDIT: I've been fooling around for a while now and I'm getting within 1km of your altitude consistently but it seems to be somewhat of an upper limit for a single whiplash. More research is required!
  4. are vtol craft allowed? The rules say you must take off and land at the runway but does that mean I have to use landing gear? I am thinking about a design that is not as plane like as I feel this challenge was intended for.
  5. I have revised my design to comply with the clarified rules on kerbals. Turns out that the extra weight of .9 tons actually improved my design although it looks quite the same. Originally I actually tried a plane but since the challenge didn't specify a flight path I found that a parabolic arc was giving me better results. I love the SR-71 look you got with this plane. so cool
  6. Here's what I came up with using version 1.2 prerelease. Top speed was 796m/s as seen on the end of flight screenshot. I took a slightly different approach than the OP. My entry is unmanned and launches at an angle from the launchpad rather than taking off from the runway. It uses a single reaction wheel and a tailplane/rudder for stability plus 32 Juno's. The launch profile is 45 degrees until engine flame out then following the pro-grade vector all the way down to the water. Just before impact was 796 m/s at my best run. I think the OP has me beat on looks though. EDIT: I have revised the design to comply with the clarified rules of requiring at least one kerbal. I did not have to change the basic design. I simply replaced the central structural fuselage with a crew cabin and lo and behold I actually improved over the unmanned design by 16m/s. the rest of the screens:
  7. I appreciate you guys working to bring this mod back to life. Thank you Thank you Thank you! I'm keeping an eye on this thread... I really miss having these parts.
