  1. @dozerman @sdj64 I don't need the capsule until Kebin SOI entry and Crew return, so I could exchange it in Kerbin SOI, it does not affect the stay at Jool. So I think I'll just leave the capsule, continue with one and on Kerbin SOI reentry I'll launch up another ship to get the crew back.

I just asked because I didn't want to continue a mission with clipped parts.

Edit: I'll send you pictures later

  2. Ok.... @sdj64 today, on my way to Jool I had a reconfiguration of my ship planned, dropping my saddletank and docking my crew return capsules, previously docked to my sidetanks. Anyways, undocking the first of the two capsules I suddenly notice symmetry messed up and placed both of my tanks+engines on one side, basically clipping them into eachother. As the other capsule is perfectly fine I wanted to ask if it is fine to continue the mission as planned, to scrap it or to just undock the return capsule and get a new one upon reentering Kerbin SOI.

If you aren't looking to be fully stock then Extraplanetary Launchpads lets you build using survey stakes, those survey stakes would let you build with launch clamps so... If you made your towers base in VAB with launch clamps then you could then get the beginning of your tower attached to Dres or wherever really. I used this method to make a whole MKS base on Dres (sorry no pics, it was a failed experiment because of Hab limitations and the time taken to get to and from Dres).

    that's genius!!

@Calvingamr I really do not have the patience for a launch at 1fps. Which is what it would be if I were to attempt to launch the entire completed vessel even without fuel, because there's still quite a large mass of structural parts and the part count is just too much for a single launch. Also, figuring out a launch system that can lift the transport nicely would probably take me longer than the actual Jool 5 mission.

Hmmmm. maybe send up the drive/propulsion section all-in-one or would that still be to much?

I could, and I will do that if Mk2 expansion remains banned. But the number of extra parts (I have several propulsion modules and the current docking mounts would have to be altered quite drastically) is somewhat significant considering it's already over 200 parts without any of the cargo (landers and spare fuel) and my computer can only just run the game with all the mods I'm using. Also, I'd have to spend a while altering the Phasma-class propulsion modules so that they still look good.

    Well why don' just send

it all up single launch (partially by the ships main propulsion and a few boosters) and then refuel it. I managed to pull that off with my Atlas too ( wery first post on this page)

The problem is there's still the potential for a slight error in direction, which can lead to massive losses on long burns. If the standard circular ports were good enough for this purpose, I'd rely on MechJeb for a perfect alignment (MechJeb's docking autopilot is usually good but it still doesn't have the zero error that I need).

Why don't use two docking ports?

    Yap, your clear.

Now, me being lazy, I'm issuing a request for someone to just go through these 18+ pages of thread and finding who i have accepted onto the board, but haven't written their names. Thank!

Thanks!! Ill may add some screenshots of the other modules when i have the time to fly them there. And BTW i tried to find some guys in the last 19 pages but gave up after just page 4. Might be to tired right now

I looked at Taurus HCV and it is now allowed.  I didn't think it was updated to the most recent version of KSP but it is fairly balanced to modern stock parts.

In 0.25 my mission took a little over 6 Kerbin years.  YMMV, especially if you use gravity assists.

So here's what I got so far. Its a Mothership with a crap ton of dV. Just in case, as a backup. And I decided to deactivate TAC Life Support because it costs me around 4k dV for 17 years of food (i need that much, belive me). And there's still no Lathe or Tylo Lander. fVQkEus.jpgAlso the return crafts will be sent up and docked after the mothership reaches Kerbin Parking Orbit. And yes there is a Hitchhiker Crew Module for every single Kerbal and his own lander docked next to it

  9. I am going to try this challenge out at Jebs level with TAC Life Support:D

    Edit

2 more questions: 1st would it be possible to use Taurus HCV ( adds a few 3.75m parts) and use the 7 crew crewcapsule to transfer the crew to the ship? It won't even go with the crew to Jool

2nd how long were your Jool 5 missions so i now how much LS i have to pack with me
