Brainlord’s Petition to Change the EULA
Ed Jaws replied to Brainlord Mesomorph's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm pretty dumb so let me ask, does this: mean I can't run the 1.3.1 executable on my Linux machine if I don't agree to the Terms? Or do I need a lawyer to tell me what to do. Obviously I agreed to be able to post here but if that's the case I'll be deleting KSP.- 180 replies

Linux Mint 18.1 LTS KDE Serena, on a fairly old (7 years) desktop for everything I need to do. I could boot to Windows 7 if I wanted to but haven't had the need since... just about ever. The wife needs Windows 10 for work and has a nice Dell laptop w/an nVidia card. But when running a game on it, it's like a room space heater and battery eater... ugh.

I've revised the low safe orbit to coincide with the community Delta-V map of 10 km above atmosphere or terrain obstacles. If one wishes to alter that to their preferences you have that option. Anyone can publish their own spreadsheet based on these with my full permission. I'd like to check their preferred orbits out. I get what you're saying @KerikBalm but I intended this to be a convenient guide to glance at for quick numbers and not what is, on the edge, possible. I've got space junk orbiting around Kerbin with it's PE in the 50 km range but that doesn't mean I want it there. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8dERrdjRxMlBrTjg --- .ods https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8M0VIeXRXZVM1TDA --- .xlsx https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8SjhGcWlyRWxQbkk --- .pdf

I watched this video about using a rover to build a base on Mun. I thought the rover was pretty cool on its own but I wanted to see if I could get it the the Mun. So I sort of "recreated" the video poster's rover and much less powerful launch vehicle for the heck of it to see what it could do. Needless to say I was stunned, to put it mildly, when it was a success. The only time I used MJ was for the landing because I surely would have run out of fuel if I tried to do it myself.

I chose Sandbox which I think all new players should. I started playing career but I just didn't know all of what is doable. It's too easy to get your bird in a ringer picking contracts and I had restarted numerous times. Now I'm playing sandbox and loving it. You can learn, set goals, be creative, and challenge yourself in sandbox without getting bogged down meeting arbitrary goals. Perhaps in the future I will give career another try. EDIT: Just saw @klgraham1013 post. That's a great idea for a career mode.

Which is exactly why I created this post. I've only been playing for two months and I have searched around but no concise, keep it at hand, source for these parameters. Hence the single page printable document. @Starman4308 thanks for your spreadsheet. You've done a lot of work there and no worries on the "steal thunder" thing. Glad you got it out there for others to check out. @KerikBalm Thanks for the feedback. If anyone wants to they can certainly use the | limited by | column for their orbital altitude or just change the altitudes in the spreadsheet to their liking in the | lowest safe orbit | column and print that out.

An up to date, single page printable .ods, .xlsx, or PDF. It's got altitudes for synchronous, semi-synchronous, lowest safe, limited by, SOI, and escape velocities. Please point out any factual errors. It wouldn't be me not to have an error or three in there. Enjoy. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8dERrdjRxMlBrTjg --- .ods https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8M0VIeXRXZVM1TDA --- .xlsx https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8SjhGcWlyRWxQbkk --- .pdf

Best way to find mods by the version of KSP they support?
Ed Jaws replied to Major SNAFU's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Or you could use the - Updated Mods - button on Curse. It will sort the mods by version supported. -
Key Bindings in a Printable Spreadsheet and PDF
Ed Jaws replied to Ed Jaws's topic in KSP1 Discussion
@FullMetalMachinist Thanks man and all those that liked the effort. It took a while to get everything on a single page and grouped somewhat coherently. Yes I found the backquote when I first started playing KSP. Never before knew or even thought about that key, ever. I believe I got it covered under the System/UI column about the 10th one down. @TriggerAu certainly got it right about old school gaming. I remember the old Microprose games that came with cardboard cutouts like he did that you'd place over the keyboard with all the controls labeled for their flight sims. -
Key Bindings in a Printable Spreadsheet and PDF

I reworked and updated the .ods .xlsx and .pdf files to a single page print out. I'll edit the first post with these files as well as including them here. If there are any mistakes please let me know. Key Bindings in a Printable Spreadsheet and PDF
Ed Jaws replied to Ed Jaws's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yeah, forgot to mention in the OP that if I made any mistakes or missed something to point it out. So thanks for the updates guys. Like I said, I took everything from the in game Input-Setting screen. Surprised the things you all are pointing out are not in there. I'll write notes on my printed copy and update it in the near future. Hopefully I can get everything spaced out properly so it looks good on paper. @Red Shirt Does C = Toggle IVA go in Flight Controls-Other? The EVA edit presents no problems but the Rotation edit with make the Game-General overrun to the second page unless I squeeze the fonts or line spacing smaller. Guess I'm obsessive about things like that. I'll work on it. Just need to get some game time under my belt. -
Key Bindings in a Printable Spreadsheet and PDF
Ed Jaws replied to Ed Jaws's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I added a PDF for folks to use if that's more convenient. I'm sure the old hands at the game don't need them anymore but if someone wanted to add these to the wiki to help people new to the game, that would be great. -
Been playing FTL. Talk about a hard game, I've only made it the sector 8 twice and got whooped bad by the boss ship. Didn't stand a chance.

I was checking the KSP wiki and noticed the key bindings are long ago outdated and no longer available from Dropbox. I'm sure that most are still applicable but I'd rather have a sheet of paper to read off of instead of windowing the game to keep the wiki open in a browser or printing the whole browser page from the wiki. Long story short I made a spreadsheet of them formatted in an .ods file with LibreOffice Calc and also exported one in .xlsx though I'm not sure how the .xlsx file will look for you. I'm on Linux without a Microsoft product anywhere. The key binding were taken directly from the game v. 1.2.2.1622. Hope they are of use to someone. *** EDIT *** New single page key binding files: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8VGZKQ0k4UWlIcXc -- .ods https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8ODVtUkF6SWVCRzQ -- .xlsx https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8de_qTRouN8UlphakNNYlZzTk0 -- .pdf

A short update, I bought KSP from the Squad store over the weekend. Contrary to the demo download the full game downloaded super fast, probably less then a minute. Definitely happy I bought it from the devs direct. I could care less about tracking my playing time as using Steam would give me. All that gives is bragging rights which doesn't interest me. To me, learning a game is just as much fun as completing it. The short time I've played I've managed to kill Jeb numerous times, poor guy. The funniest one is when the rocket didn't even lift off. It just tipped over and exploded, silly me. Thank you all for helping a newcomer. PS. Thanks for the tip @Dman979

@Dman979, ditto on your avatar. Your comment about @Snark had me LOL. Thanks for the info and yes I will support the dev team rather than Steam. @adsii1970, thanks for the welcome. Sometimes when I write, thoughts just keep flowing and I tend to get long winded. How do you get the blue box around the members names?

Good to see an active, friendly, and helpful community. I'm 66 years young and been gaming since the '80s on a c64 computer. Which certainly does not mean I'm good at it but I try. My focus is on single-player strategy games and was never into real time or FPS games. Since I'm a Linux user I was browsing the -SteamOS + Linux on Steam- sorted by user reviews and found KSP with overwhelming positive reviews. I said to myself, 'Hmm, how did I miss this title for the past two years.' I try to expand my horizons to simulators games and I do enjoy them but I generally suck at flight sims. The math and orbital mechanics involved with KSP will be a huge hurdle for me too. With your help, hopefully I can overcome my handicaps in these realms. Expect a lot of questions in the game play forum. I did some research and found the KSP store with the newer demo (Steam demo version is still at 0.18) and grabbed it. The demo ran fine in full screen but when I windowed it with the browser open so I could check the keybindings while playing, I was getting a stutter in the VAB as I was moving the camera around. My (rather old) system specs: OS: Linux 4.4 LinuxMint 18.1 KDE 64bit CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor (4) RAM: 16047 GPU: GeForce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 (2048MB) SM: 30 (OpenGL 4.5 [4.5.0 NVIDIA 367.57]) Monitor: 1920x1200 If anyone is still reading this awfully long introductory post I do have a couple of questions. ***Is there any advantage to buying the full game from the KSP store or Steam? I'd rather the devs got all the purchase price instead of Steam with their 30% vigorish. ***When a new version comes out is there a patch or is the whole game downloaded again? I did notice the store demo download was only able to get around 150k/s download speed. ***Can I install the game on my desktop and my laptop or should I buy two copies of the game if and when I know the game won't be sitting on my hard drive unused? Thanks for reading. To Mun or bust! Ed
