  1. All, Still blowing up, if I add stuff as requested, I cannot control the ship so I took it off. I guess I need to add that radial thing, sucks not having a pilot!! Thx jonpfl
  2. All, I have no pilots left, they are all stuck in orbit, how do I get more? All I have in my complex are scientists and engineers! I need a pilot to help me steer my ship. Thx jonpfl
  3. All, So I changed the ship and added more fins and it still is very hard to control (and I am fighting it to stop spinning). I don't have any pilots left, they are all stuck in space :-( Any advice? This is getting frustrating. Thx jonpfl
  4. All, It goes to 65k but then goes back into orbit. I thought under 70k means it will get pulled down. Thx jonpfl
  5. Here is my ship. This thing takes off and spins around, how do I stop that? I put fins on it but it still spins. Thx jonpfl
  6. So, if I am trying to figure out if I can get into orbit on Kerbal, how do I determine that? Look at atmosphere AND in space and ? Thx jonpfl
  7. So what is this telling me at the moment? At sea level on Kerbin in or orbiting Kerbin? Thx jonpfl
  8. In regards to parachutes, should I release it when the icon is grey (I assume it provides some drag) and then use it higher than 1k? Lately I have not been able to get to the grey icon though (like I said, I usually crash and sometimes burn up). Thx jonpfl
  9. Thanks, but I don't think that will help me as I still have problems getting into orbit and back with delta V 3.4k. I might try the 2 man capsule on top though, I just figured that would make it much harder to get into orbit. jonpfl What does this mean? Thx jonpfl I haven't messed around with action groups but I guess I need to read up on them (or watch a Scott Manley video). Thx jonpfl
  10. All, just bougth KSP a few weeks ago and installed this mod after reading many positive things about it. When I am in the VAB and it shows delta V and TtW ratio, is that calculated at sea level with a fully loaded vehicle? I assume those values change dramatically as fuel is burned off, correct? Thx jonpfl
  11. Should I put a heat shield on the bottom of the crew cabin to lower the CoM? I will try your suggestions and see if it helps. If not, I will post a pic. Thx jonpfl
  12. All, I am trying to take two people into space so I use a capsule (with a pilot) and that two pod for the passengers. I cannot get back into reentry without either burning up (on occasion) or crashing into planet (most of the time). What the is best way to approach Kerbin? Do I want to come out of orbit and have my periapsis around 60k or 65k and then shut off engines and release them? Or do I want to keep burning my engines until my periapsis is below the surface? Or near the surface? Thx jonpfl
  13. All, I keep hearing there is some "trick" to acquiring science. What do people mean by this? Am I supposed to get a science read with thermometer/barometer/goo and then EVA and let my kerbal grab it and bring it back to the capsule? Will my capsule store everything I grab that way? If so, how do I grab that info? Just bring my kerbal close to the science instrument and hit ??? Thx jonpfl
  14. Can you expand on this or give me a link explaining what you mean? Thx jonpfl
  15. Wow, great stuff guys!!! I know my questions seem really basic but it is nice to ask them and not get snarky replies! When I was messing around with it last night, I could get my ship to go around the moon but it would leave orbit (it was curving around the moon). I assume that had to do with me going too fast and I had to slow down. Should I be doing a man node at some point around the earth and slowing down? Thx jonpfl
  16. 1) So essentially I am trying to get a green path as that means I will be in orbit around the Mun? 2) Is SOI the same as orbit? 3) I keep seeing posts saying that getting to the Mun should be 800 to 900 m/s but I have NO idea how to control that. When I doing a maneuver around Kerbin, I am just playing with the symbols until I am getting a path that gets to the moon. Whatever I am doing, should I be doing the opposite and that should get me to that number? Thx jonpfl
  17. All, What is the orange vs green path? How do I get my burn time down? I can only get it down to around 50 seconds. Thx jonpfl
  18. All What is wrong with this plane? I cannot even get it to fire up! Thx jonpfl
  19. 1) Still confused, not sure what you mean by "wrong phase angle"? 2) What is a maneuver node vs a prograde node? 3) What does "add deltaV until the apo after man is same as Mun height" mean? 4) If I try and move node around the trajectory, it just rotates around the planet at stays at 2k. Thx jonpfl EDIT : I figured it out, I was trying to go from in front of the planet, figured out I am supposed to do from the backside.
  20. All, I keep running out of fuel, I read from some older threads I am supposed to get a delta V of 800 but I cannot get better than 2000. Any suggestions? upload your pics Thx jonpfl
  21. All, I am having problems as well and this is the best I can do, what am I missing? upload your pics Thx jonpfl
  22. All, I finally figured out what I was doing wrong with trying to get into orbit. I wasn't turning my ship towards 45 degrees soon enough and thus path was too straight up (don't what term to use to describe it). Anyway, I ferried two kernels and then one kerbal into orbit to make some money. My ship did have around high 3s for delta V though. Thx jonpfl
  23. Ok, I will try this when I get home and also post a pic of my rocket. I am in career mode and thus might not have the greatest engines to do this. Thx jonpfl
  24. I assume that means fly parallel to the ground to get into orbit but keep going until you are out of the SOI, correct? I think I read that your elliptical orbit should turn into a straight line, right? I keep having problems of running out of fuel, I am wondering if I am doing something fundamentally wrong since I have almost 4k of delta V and barely get into orbit. Other have helped me to get into orbit but they told me I should be able to do it with 3.4k delta V. When I get home, I am going to post a pic of my ship and maybe you (or someone) can comment and give me tips. Thx jonpfl
  25. Thanks for the link, will check it out. For the planes you can download, where do you put them (what folder)? The reason I was looking to build a plane is that I have a bunch of contracts that say "take measurement at a certain location" and figure trying to get there with a rocket is going to be really hard. Thx jonpfl
