(i kept all the files that were in the MechJeb folder when i downloaded it in the folder) can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong

I'm playing KSP on my mac through steam and when i run KSP and get to my menu screen a message pops up about the mechjeb mod being installed improperly when i put the mechjeb mod folder inside the game data folder in KSP with all the files remaining inside the folder. can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
