  1. Attention! New Challenge Issued! Stock Space Warship Greetings ladies and gentlekerbals! As was reported in the papers last week (you've seen them, haven't you?) global government bill 626 was passed and ratified by the Global Congress for all Kerbals. What does this mean for you? Well, I'm here to tell you. With the passing of the so-called 'Corporate Space' bill, space has now been freed up to enterprising corporations (and more importantly, their CEOs) to conquer as they see fit. In short, if you can plant a flag on it, it's yours. Fortunately for me and General Universal, we already had a handful of combat vessels on the production line (as pictured above: the KSS Stheno). Unluckily for you, that means you lot are all now behind the curve, ha! Fortunately for you, our burgeoning flotilla won't be going anywhere yet, as the Stheno and her sister the Medusa are currently suffering major teething problems with their weapons systems. Oops. That means you all have just caught a lucky break, I'd strongly advise you to take the chance to establish your own fleets before there's no hope of defending your current holdings. Of course, what would this challenge be without rules, and here they are: The craft must have at least theoretical interplanetary range (Duna at least) w/o tugs or additional boosters The craft must carry some sort of stock armaments, a show of force or weapons test is not required, but recommended. The craft must reach orbit by purely stock means The craft must be manned Good luck, and godspeed!~ Lucas Kerman, C.E.O.
  2. Attention! New Challenge Issued! Stock Helicopter Good evening ladies and gentlemen! As part of an initiative to investigate "new and more interesting forms of flight" the Kerbin Rotunda for Aircraft and Persons, henceforth referred to as KRAP, have issued subsidies for assisted development of a form of rotary wing gyrocraft, also known as a helicopter. Of course, in classic KRAP fashion, by subsidies they mean a shiny medal if you succeed, and by assisted development they mean you're on your own. Those damn bureaucrats. On the plus side, they said the experience gained from such an endeavor would likely exceed the value of any financial compensation they could provide. Whether that's the truth or a cheapskate excuse to get out of paying you is still up in the air. Da Rules: Build a stock helicopter capable of flying for at least 30 seconds. Da (not) Rules: Feel free to use anything in the cheat menu short of gravity hack in order to get your chopper flying, the point is that it needs to fly, it doesn't have to be an engineering marvel. Feel free to use any mods so long as your chopper doesn't use vtol engines or anything of the sort (although for'ard propulsion engines are allowed) I don't care how soon after the 30 second mark your chopper crashes, provided you can keep it flying (under it's own props, no boosters) that long, you succeed. Trust me, that alone will be challenge enough. Feel free to copy any design features from any other designs you see (including the one above), just be sure the aircraft is your own and not somebody else's. As a sidenote, the helicopter above is mine, and it is fully capable of flight, although it's a monster on the controls and it is rather slow without the two jets on the fuselage. TTFN, Ta Ta For Now! -Lucas Kerman, C.E.O.
  3. I realize we just did Punkin Chunkin, but is it really time for Oktoberfest too? Or did somebody get hard cider for Christmas?
  4. New Challenge! Tactical Ballistic Missile Chunkin! It's that time of year ladies and gentlemen! While those earthlings busy themselves with chunking pumpkins with all manner of siege artillery KSC has opened its ballistic missile range to all comers. The goal is simple: build a ballistic missile and hit something with it. I don't care how you do it, cluster warhead, kinetic penetrator, it's all on the table. Some rules (you can't escape 'em): The missile has to take a suborbital (70km+) trajectory which means: No deorbiting it on top of the baddy No jet-powered long range cruise missiles The missile has to actually hit something be it an airplane, building, carrier, or what have you The target has to be at least 50km away from the launch point The missile must be unmanned On a substantially different note, sorry this one's three days late, I totally forgot I was on the hook for this week. (It wouldn't have mattered much even if I had remembered, I was traveling, but...) Medal:
  5. I have a submission too! The last set of airbrakes is technically supposed to be discarded before landing, but considering all the issues I had with debris strikes I kept it for this attempt.
  6. Err... That isn't exactly what I meant: my aircraft carrier is so heavy it physically doesn't have the TWR to move under its own power. Also, @FleshJeb, provided your carrier has the same deck area and shape as mine, I see no problem with people using yours, although the carrier shouldn't be moving when you land an aircraft on it.
  7. Universal Aerospace Challenge Flyer Attention! Carrier Landing Challenge Issued! Good evening (maybe) ladies and gentlemen. I am here to formally announce the following challenge: Land on the KSS Kerman (found here: https://kerbalx.com/LucasT0909/USS-Kerman-Class-CV-Built-by-LucasT0909) with an aircraft of your choosing, provided it has at least one kerbal aboard. Further Stipulations: The carrier must be located 75km from the KSC The carrier must be unmodified You are not required to get the carrier there under its own power (it doesn't move anyway) The aircraft used must survive the landing (no, stopping it with the superstructure doesn't count) Go nuts. You'll need to have unbreakable joints turned on when launching the KSS Kerman, you'll also need to use some vessel moving mod to get it where it needs to be, I personally recommend Vesselmover. Anyone interested in those fighters can find them here: https://kerbalx.com/LucasT0909/UA-Myrmidon-F-57-Built-by-LucasT0909 Good luck! Medal:
  8. Sorry the medal for last challenge took so long! (Frankly most of it was down to my own laziness) Still, here it is in all its glory: One each, if you please.
  9. Universal Aerospace Assistance Flyer Attention! Airlift Challenge Issued! The Kerbin Rotunda for Aircraft and Persons, henceforth known as KRAP, have issued a formal challenge for aircraft companies to prove our abilities to airlift heavy cargo across kerbin. Spearheading this effort we, General Universal, are requesting the support of other companies in this endeavor. The challenge, codenamed Operation: HERCULES, is to airlift thirty tons (About two 2.5m large grey tanks, or two 2.5m full ore tanks) of cargo from the KSC to the island Runway. Sound easy? It won't be. The further stipulations are as follows: The cargo must be loaded outside of the Hangar, the cargo bays should be empty on launch and emptied after landing. Any resources aboard the cargo cannot be used in flight. The cargo must be removed from the aircraft at the destination, as in the image above. The cargo must be intact at the destination, the transport not necessarily: but it is recommended. I look forward to your submissions. Good luck, and Godspeed my fellow kerbals. ~Lucas Kerman, C.E.O. Medal:
  10. Universal Exploratory Public Mission Report Operation: ONE FINAL DANCE The Mission was a technical success: barely. The Primary base arrived intact, but lost one of its pairs of redundant landing gear along with both SAS units (neither necessary for mission completion, but nice to have) The Cross-Duna Vtol Aircraft (CDVA) (not pictured above) had most of its fuel tanks drained in attempt to land closer to the primary base, but is otherwise intact. Recommended additions: proper rover and support infrastructure for it, additional habitation buildings, mining equipment, security force. Notes for next time: MOAR DELTA-V, aerobraking helped, but both craft were basically out of fuel on arrival: recommend at least 8k dV for Kerbin-Duna travel: twice that if a return w/o refuel is expected. Full mission image logs (not much unfortunately, was more focused on getting the darn thing done)
  11. General Universal Internal Memo: Feasibility Test: Mission Without Real-Time Craft Simulation System, AKA The Omniscient Chase Cam Status: Partial Success Mission Images: The test was a near-complete success, a few notable issues: During reentry the craft went into a flat spin; it probably prevented damage from overheating (reentry was a bit on the fast side), but losing control of the aircraft is not a recommended future tactic for slowing down during reentry. There are still a multitude of tasks that the RTCSS is necessary for: tweaking control surfaces in-flight is one of them. Without the RTCSS the pilot seemed a bit more heavy-handed on the stick, obviously this didn't affect the mission, but the Missions Evaluation Department would still like to put it to the Kerbonauts Health & Readiness Department to either give the pilot additional flight training or investigate the affects of reduced situational awareness on existing pilots.
  12. Heh! I Bet! Question: How do you people get such accurate orbits? All of my satellites were at approximate Mün orbit altitude, but they still drifted like crazy (especially the farthest one from the Mün).
  13. General Universal Internal Memo: Operation: WATCHMAKER Status: Success Mission Images: Operation success achieved, future considerations: Orbits of satellites need tending: Comsat 1 needs to have speed reduced, Comsats 2-3 need to increase distance from Mün. Relays in Münar orbit required completely to remove blindspot Chrysaor still needs a replacement- and one has been needed for several missions now. Seriously, what are we paying you people in the design department for? Eating all the snacks in the break room and constantly starting paperball fights? Get to it!
  14. General Universal Internal Memo: Operation: CENTAUR Status: Success Mission Images: Operation success achieved, future considerations: Chrysaor OV-235 in need of replacement: no longer sufficient for orbital delivery needs Recommend replacing Sleipnir OV-180 with functionally superior Abraxas OV-192 Recommend addition of A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S. to all future SSTOs to reduce speed in upper atmosphere
  15. !General Universal Public Announcement! Operation DELIVERANCE Entry Cutoff Due to budget constraints, any further entries for operation DELIVERANCE will need to be finalized and submitted before medal presentation which is due to occur later this evening. (pardon my shirking character for a moment, but @hoioh, you haven't yet given a proper submission for this challenge, we can't give you a medal if you don't make a submission)
  16. @doggonemess Ignore this, I think I misread your post Just to clarify: You had to rescue both the original crew member and the crew member from the poorly-planned-rescue vehicle. Have I got that right?
  17. Err... Depends, what is the function of your station within the story? If the station is the object that the kerbals are being rescued from, then I don't mind, although remember the station has to be in another body's orbit. If the station is the delivery location for the kerbals, I'd say no, you'd have to build the station first (doesn't have to be anything big, a single-launch station is fine, it just has to be a station: space built structure designed to permanently stay in orbit and provide a capability for kerbal habitation, regardless of additional functions).
  18. !General Universal Public Announcement! New Operation Established, Designate: Operation DELIVERANCE It has come to our attention at General Universal that a mentality of expendability has been assigned to the Kerbals hired for use in our space programs, leading to many stranded Kerbals across the Kerbin system. Obviously, this cannot continue, therefore, to regain public confidence in our space programs and return many of our kerbonauts to their families we have decided to launch Operation DELIVERANCE. Your objectives are simple: Return kerbals currently residing in a partially destroyed or stranded vessel on another body to kerbin or anywhere with long-term habitation capabilities (Any station with a hitchhiker module). If the vessel is stranded on the surface of another body (as above), and is refueled to enable rescue, only one kerbal must be returned If the vessel is partially destroyed and rescue is completed via secondary craft, at least two kerbals must be rescued The rescued vessel must be in an orbit or on the surface of a body other than Kerbin How you complete these objectives is up to you, should you succeed in your efforts you will be compensated with a medal properly ranked to your previous accomplishments in this thread. If you do not have any currently stranded kerbals, consider this a training exercise to prepare for the future. Good luck, and godspeed mission directors. Rocket-powered launch cart may or may not be an old oil barrel full of rocket fuel and some large stones found in Jebediah Kerman's Junkyard. Warranty void if launch cart fails to separate after takeoff. Warranty void if aircraft flips at high speeds. Warranty void if any part of the aircraft arrives damaged. Warranty void if batteries explode while charging. Warranty void if autonomous R/C unit somehow gains sentience and attempts to murder you. Warranty void if you attempt to use glider as replica stealth bomber, (we build those too, if you want one just buy one.) Warranty void if you attempt to jury-rig jet engines to glider. Warranty void if it is not already void by whatever the heck you did with this thing.
  20. Quicky Clarification, if the aircraft is on top of a launch cart, (basically a barrel with a big engine and a set of wheels) Does the maximum thrust of the attached engine equal 200kn per 10 tons of aircraft, or 200kn per 10t of aircraft + launch cart together? Provided the wheels don't leave the runway, is the launch cart clear to go the entire length of the runway under acceleration?
