  1. Two fluid Thorium MSR's use helium to capture gaseous reaction products from the fuel salt. They inject some helium into the hot side of the loop, then pull off the helium which has picked up any xenon, and cesium. This off gas is then processed to reclaim the helium and to hold the radioactive products until enough half lives have passed https://world-nuclear.org/information-library/current-and-future-generation/molten-salt-reactors.aspx
  2. i.e. lets say EM and SX succeed beyond all rational hope and within 10 years we have a hundred SS's flying regularly and costs are waaaaay down. Intrepid AsMining GmbH Ltd Partners and Associates Incorporated LLC decides to buy their own SS and configures it for asteroid mining and retrieval. They find a likely candidate asteroid, shred it and centrifuge out the good stuff... how much goodstuff could they reasonably bring back in a single load? IntrepidAsMining Gmbh probably won't use a SS to return mined asteroid materials. The volume you need to make this economical is huge. common materials like iron will be formed into a return craft that will reenter, and then hauled off to the smelter/refinery to complete processing. SS would be used for personnel and more valuable items
  3. I use the surface scanning module. It displays the current biome you're in.
  4. I always have a mid course correction when I go to Minmus. This is what I do. Get a equatorial orbit, open up the map mode. make Minmus my target. I put my insertion burn at the point of my orbit where Minmus would be rising above Kerbin. Set the Ap at about 42 M. I then move the start time of that burn to get the closest encounter markers as close as possible. Then I select my plane change node. if the an/dn are close to Kerbin use that point. Otherwise I just pick a burn 10-20 minutes after my first burn. Once I have both nodes created I focus on Minmus, and tweak the two burns. The first burn controls the height of the PE above Minmus. The second burn moves the PE towards/away from Minmus orbital plane,
  5. Thanks AHHans, I haven't had time to test it yet, but your explanation makes sense. On this type of contract I fly the tourists until the craft leaves Kerbin SOI, then immediately target Kerbin and burn towards the target until I get an close encounter. I'm certain the solar orbit intersects Kerbin SOI, so I don't get the orbit around the sun contract condition.
  6. What do I need to do to meet solar orbit contract? I'm getting flying past, but never get the solar orbit contract condition set.
