  1. Made a XB-70 kinda sorta to launch the X-15 Delta.  Currently the X-15 normals/materials/whatever that cool texture thing is called seem messed up.  From a normal distance away, there's like black squares, but zooming in really close makes the X-15 parts look normal.  Work in Production of course :P

No, I can't get the wing tips to fold all the way down.  Using Robotic Hinges is... not good.  These wing tips are Proc canards stretched into the shape, but since control surfaces can only "deploy" to a max of 30 degrees, that's all you get :3

Oh, it worked? I've been getting reports that launching with the X-15 mounted under a wing breaks the drag on those parts...

Yeah, doesn't seem to have any issues on my end.  With the XLR-99 I can reach space no problem.

The steps I take are:  Build the launch aircraft first and make sure that can fly.

Then assemble the X-15 on the mother aircraft.  I did have an issue where if I merge an X-15 save to the mother aircraft save, the X-15 cockpit won't let a kerbal into it.

I use a stock Pylon with Decoupler mode off, and a stock radial decoupler to decouple the X-15.

During flight, I use Atmosphere Autopilot to keep things stable.

For separation, I activate Stock SAS and then decouple the X-15, then deactivate SAS on the mother aircraft so it keeps flying and the X-15 has some stability (AA doesn't stay active for the separated craft)

I then switch to the X-15, light the candle, Activate AA, and ZOOOOOOOM

Weird, it's practically the perfect size to put an ATM telescope on the bottom and solar panels on the spots where the reaction control thrusters go.

I found cobalt's original post by searching "renovated" on this topic.  It's a thing to do things with!

  4. Discussion of KSP2 is off topic for Tantares.

@ the Tantares team:  Is there a todo list we can view of things you guys want to do with Tantares?  With the obvious caveat that the order of the list doesn't reflect importance or a timeline.

So far on the list we can see:

    • revamp Proton
    • Revamp R7/Soyuz rocket

If I may throw in some suggestions:

    • The Energia core stage is "too long".  This is in comparison with Hugoraider's Buran Orbiter Construction Kit.  I can get comparison pics when I get home, but honest just a minor detail compared to my next suggestion.
    • Revamp N1 again?  I'd like it if the 2nd and 3rd stage tanks had a mesh switch to add the shields and nodes on the shields for roll control thrusters (though we could just radial attach some thrusters to the shield section, probably don't need separate attach nodes).  Example image of the shield.   And then example image of where I think the thrusters are on the 3rd stage, and maybe a stick figure for scale for the heck of it.

Yeah, the more I think of it, just having the shields as an option and letting us radially attach stuff to them would be great, probably don't need to do a total revamp.

I think that's all I have to suggest to add to the great todo list of Tantares.  I look forward to seeing the team do some amazing things.  And get some sleep!

I am black as charcoal and smouldering, a heap.

I was fortunate to receive some really good reference material (thank you, you know who you are) - so, the first stage can be much more accurate. Hopefully some really cool stuff coming up! :)

Are those boosters on the side?  You know what, the CIA just called and say yes they are most definitely boosters and not a compromise to fit the stage on a train!
