I'm not sure if you're being serious with this thread or not, I know you were extremely enthusiastic, to put it mildly, about KSP2 pre-release

I'm very serious. Even if I'm the last person on this forum that thinks KSP 2 will be the greatest game ever made.. I'll never give up on it.

  2. Again, I know it's a very painful moment and I thank from the bottom of my heart the whole team for all the work they've done to bring KSP 2 from idea to reality. I deeply regret that a lot of good folks lost their jobs and I hope everyone will be able to use all the experience they've gained to find even better job opportunities.

I say that I am excited about the future of KSP 2 because this is a pivotal moment for the game. It's a hard reset.
But it's also a great opportunity - to carefully look at the good things that have been built, to accept that not everything went according to plan and change course while maintaining the creative vision.

KSP 2 is destined for greatness, but the road is hard and has not been paved. KSP 2 is the first victim of our interstellar ambitions. But that does not change the fact that it's a pioneer-project and a brave effort.
We got this far - so keep faith for the long journey ahead. The game is, in its current state, fun and stable. I'm sure development will continue with a smaller, more focused team - just like in the good ol' KSP 1 days.

Keep your hearts safe. Looking forward to the Colonies update!

    Under who?

PD doesn't develop games, they don't have developer staff at all. They either have to announce a new developer (I'll gladly direct you to check how long it took them to announce IG as dev after sinking StarTheory for timeline comparisons) or start hiring people (they aren't).

I don't know. But the show must go on.

The codebase of Kerbal Space Program is a mess, it's like when people 'fill in' potholes without really solving the issues that cause them. Sure the modded game looks nice, but it's still like a barely alive zombie of a game.

No doubt. Right now people are on the emotional roller coaster again, but things will calm down. Everyone needs to understand that these are business decisions, and the direction the game is going has to be fine-tuned to its real audience. We can hope for mass appeal and getting all the kids to play the game, but that will happen naturally out of scientific magnetism and tech curiosity. The remaining / new core KSP 2 team has to trust the vision.

It's really hard for the people that lose their jobs, but they have a lot to be proud of and the work and passion they put in will land them good new jobs.

As for KSP2 - yeah, it probably did not bring the right money in yet, so they cut expenses. But that doesn't mean the project is cancelled or abandoned. KSP 1 had a 8-10 man core team right? So we have a good foundation now, we'll get colonies (basically already done), and all the rest will come slower but it's all gonna grow and expand.

This is not the lowest point for KSP2 - this is a new beginning. And the game is almost up, it just needs to grow up and find it's spirit.

I would get a clean KSP1 install, open CKAN, make my ultimate modded install

Make any mod selection you desire, it will not solve the problems that KSP 2 set out to tackle. You will still be blocked by all the repetitive runs you have to make to build a space station or a Mun base that does nothing.

I appreciate your faith and an apparently non-aggressive attitude towards the game. It’s pretty rare these days.

The game is very close to being great and innovative. I think a lot of the work for the Colonies update has been completed and that update will bring new life into the IP. I see the current T2 situation as a decision to mend course and continue development with a smaller team over a larger number of years - and as the game picks up speed again, hiring will resume. I do not believe in any way that the game will be canceled - its already fun and has a lot of potential, and a lot of the foundational work has already been completed.

  7. Game development is like war - you make plans, you try to execute, things don't go according to plan, you lose some friends in the process, you grieve, but you keep fighting. You pick yourself up and you never stop fighting.

I believe in @Nate Simpson and his vision.

KSP 2 is a work of art - it's blood, sweat and tears. And it will turn out as one of the greatest games ever made. I have not the slimmest shadow of a doubt.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who is, was and will be part of the team. The game is starting to shine, so keep calm and carry on!

Tomorrow marks one whole year since the Early Access launch of KSP2. How is it that a year can fly past in a heartbeat while also containing so much stuff?

In that time, our team has released a total of 11 updates and knocked out more than 2441 bugs. We’ve brought new physics systems online (re-entry heating, more rigid rockets) and we’ve added new features (Exploration Mode, Science collection, and Missions). As good as it’s felt to work through our feature list, the most satisfying part of the release process has always been the "day-after basking," where we take in all the unexpected ways the community is taking advantage of new gameplay possibilities. This has only gotten more exciting since the arrival of the Science and Mission features - not only are your vehicles getting more ambitious, but the missions themselves are starting to get pretty elaborate. The ways you’re getting the U-Dunkit module into alien seas are emblematic - it’s quite an awkward part, and the vehicles that it’s attached to tend to be delightfully weird!

Shadowzone does a Laythe dunk (full disclosure, he discovered a bug on this journey, but I think he still had fun)

    image (1).png
Shadowzone is dunk-drunk, and now seeks out puddles across the Kerbolar System!

    image (2).png
Audaylon with a rare double-dunker with fore and aft Dunk-its!

    image (3).png
@GalaxDragon aka Yuri has managed to get their U-Dunkit nowhere near any liquid at all

    image (4).png
@SciVirus has used the part in an unexpected but delightful way

We’re looking forward to the new possibilities that will be opening up to players in the coming year, especially with the arrival of colonies! We’re making good progress in that area right now - why, here’s a stately little orbital test colony over Duna (it looks extremely cool with all the modules rotating):

Thanks for continuing to share your creations with us, and thanks for helping us to make KSP2 even better in 2024!

    Nate

A bit late to the party, but I'm proud of my Dunk-it offshore mini-rig.

Then how was Unity making money for research and improvements?

They weren't. They laid off 600 of their workforce last may. There's no research anymore, and I doubt it will be any further development - I'm betting that whoever is left, will be only closing issues from now on.

Imagine this being a shock that they deleted 25% of employees after the developers' reaction to a an alternative business decision which was supposed to balance the books. This is all on the devs.
